Looking to buy a trailer hitch for my 2024 Subaru Outback. None of the choses seem to be the type that requires a cut out of the lower plastic bumper trim to allow a higher mount better ground clearance. Can you help?

Hi Peter! great question.

Just so you know, there aren’t any aftermarket hitches for the 2024 Subaru Outback Wagon that actually go through the bumper you'd have to go with a factory (OEM) hitch if you want that.

For the best ground clearance with an aftermarket option, I’d recommend the Curt Hitch part # C67JR. It’s a concealed cross tube design, so only the receiver sticks out under the bumper — way cleaner and higher up than the regular style hitches like # BLU92UR, where the whole hitch hangs down below.

If you want something even sleeker, you could go with the Hidden Hitch by Draw-Tite # DT74YR. It’s a little more expensive, but the cool thing is you can actually remove the receiver when you're not towing. Just a heads-up though — it won’t give you better ground clearance while towing compared to the Curt, but when you're not towing you can remove the receiver which will help with ground clearance.

@HeatherA I ordered the Blue Ox (BLU92UR) due to higher load capacity. The installation instructions should be changed to correct that the muffler does not need to be removed - it absolutely does.
