Hi, this is Scott with etrailer and today we're gonna be taking a look at our Blue Ox Trailer Hitch Receiver for our 2024 Subaru Outback. Having a hitch receiver on the back of your Subaru, it's gonna allow you to have a bike rack that you can put your bikes on. You'd be able to have maybe a cargo rack that goes on the back, so maybe you've got your back filled up with all your camping accessories and stuff and you need a little more room on the back for your cooler, for maybe your little bundle of wood that you're gonna use for your fire. Anything like that. That's gonna really open up a lot of possibilities that it gets you a little bit more accessories that you can haul along with you down the road. This receiver has a two inch opening.
We got two inch by two inch. (tape measure snaps) We also have a weight capacity of the 675 pounds. That's gonna be the weight capacity that allows the downward for holding bikes or your cargo, whatever. It also has a pull capacity of a total of 4,500 pounds. But you do want to check with your manufacturer, your owner's manual, and make sure that is, everything's in line for that.
You are gonna have access here to a five inch hole for your pin, which will lock in your accessories. You also have your loops here where you can have your standard hook chain (hook clinks) or you can have your normal safety chain loop. (hook clinks) And from the ground to the center of our tube for our receiver, we're looking at right around 14 inches. (tape measure snaps) That's gonna allow you to figure out what type of rise you need for your accessories. And from the center of the pin hole to the outside of the bumper, you're gonna be right about six inches.
To start our installation, we're gonna take the strap and we're gonna find a nice solid place to hook up to here. (strap clinks) And what that's gonna do is that's gonna help support our exhaust. So when we remove our hangers, it'll keep it supported. We've got four rubber hangers here and what we're gonna do is we're gonna go ahead and locate those. We've got one in the front here.
You've got one back here in the back, you've got another one on this other side here and another one right here. We're gonna take a little soapy water here and we're gonna spray all these little ends where these isolators attach. (spray bottle squirts) Basically what this is gonna do, it's gonna make it easier to slide off that so you can drop your mufflers down to access your mounting location. We're gonna lift up on the muffler just a little bit and we're gonna slide this little rubber mount off of the end. (metal rattles) All right. And we're gonna do that to all four of them. Got that out. All right. There's gonna be one more rubber hanger up here in the front that's gonna allow us to drop down the exhaust further so we can have more room to get at that. Our strap's gonna help hold that up. Hold up on the exhaust and slowly let our strap down. We've got a heat shield up in here and we've got four 10 millimeter bolts. What we're gonna do is we're gonna take these out (tool buzzes) and we're gonna pull the heat shield down and we're gonna put it aside 'cause we're gonna need it later 'cause we're gonna have to trim a little bit out of it to make room for our hitch. (tool buzzes) We've got our four bolts out. What we're gonna do is we're gonna take this out. We have these three rubber plugs that are stuffed up into the bottom of the frame. What we're gonna do is we're gonna pull them out and once we get these rubber plugs out, we will not need them. We will not be reusing them for the hitch install. We have to enlarge this hole that's on the back hole of the frame right here. And what that's gonna do is that's gonna allow us to run a plate and the bolt up through and that will give us access to mount our hitch. (tool buzzes) (tool buzzes) Now that we have the hole widened out, we're gonna take one of these fish wires and we're gonna run it up into the furthest hole back and we're gonna run it all the way up to that hole that we widened out. It can be a little tricky to get out of there. So now that we have that through, take one of these spacer plates and we're gonna run it up on there, onto the fish wire and we're gonna follow that up with one of these nuts supplied in the kit. Now you're just gonna wanna run that up to the very tip of those threads right there. And you're gonna take that plate and you're gonna run it up into that hole that we created and we're gonna go ahead and pull that through (bolt rattles) the frame. (bolt rattles) (bolt clatters) Now we got that to pop down and through. Now we're gonna go ahead and do the same thing with the one up here in this front hole right here. All right. (wire rattles) Okay, with our heat shields that we have down, we're gonna measure across from the existing hole in the front where the side loops up here and we're gonna measure across two and three quarters. And we are going to make a mark right there where that two and three quarter mark is. (heat shield clatters) And you want to keep it in line with these existing holes here. And we're gonna take a one and a half inch hole saw and we're gonna drill out from the center of that out. And that's gonna give us room for our carriage bolts and washer. Now that we've got our mark figured out here, we're gonna go ahead and drill our hole. We're gonna get the drill started right there on that hole. And I would recommend that you do use gloves 'cause this is kind of a sharp, thinner tin. So just to be safe, I would recommend doing that. (saw roars) You may want to have somebody help you out. It might take a couple of other extra set of hands to pop this up in there, but we're gonna go ahead and send it up in there and get it installed now. Now you wanna get your fish wires through here (wire rattles) and allow that bolt to pull down through and that'll help you center everything up. Now that you've got one of 'em started, you can go ahead and get your fish wire off of here and then get another nut on there. (nut rattles) We're gonna go ahead and bring them down to torque. And you just wanna follow your manufacturer's torque specifications (torque wrench whirs) (torque wrench beeps) and get our heat shield reinstalled. And you can see, (heat shield clatters) where we cut that hole is gonna line up perfect with that nut and carriage bolt. (tool rasps) Okay, and then you're gonna move on to get your exhaust hangers back in place. Now that we've got all our exhaust hangers in place and everything looking good and tight, that's gonna complete our installation. And that was a look at our Blue Ox Trailer Hitch Receiver for our 2024 Subaru Outback.
