A trailer jack is designed to lift the tongue of your trailer so you can connect the trailer coupler to your hitch ball. To do this, you'll need a jack with a lift capacity high enough to handle your trailer's tongue weight.
Tongue weight is the amount of weight that your trailer applies to the back of your tow vehicle. Typically, your tongue weight should be 10-15% of your total trailer weight (trailer + cargo). In other words, a 10,000-lb trailer would have a tongue weight between 1,000 lbs and 1,500 lbs. For a trailer this size, you would need a jack with a lift capacity of at least 1,500 lbs.
It's okay to have a jack with a weight rating that is higher than your trailer's tongue weight. In fact, a jack with a higher lift capacity should operate more efficiently, allowing you to spend less time cranking and more time camping.
Every jack offers a certain amount of lift or travel. Screw travel is the distance the jack extends when you crank it (or toggle it to "extend" on an electric model). Some jacks include a drop leg for extra adjustability. On these jacks, you'll see the maximum extension of the drop leg listed in the specs as well. Adding the screw travel and drop leg travel together will give you the total lift. The total lift listed above can help you determine how high this jack will be able to raise your trailer.

Over the weekend, they answered my questions to select the appropriate replacement electric jack for my Airstream. Also, when there was a shipping delay (not etrailer’s fault), Rose provided prompt responses and professional support. I will continue to use etrailer for my RV needs.
Works flawlessly. Maybe the only thing I could complain about is it is slower than I think it could be. Along with the side lights could always be brighter. Works great, install kit is awesome, and it works without a stutter.
Had been contemplating this purchase/install for a couple of years. Finally bit the bullet. Purchase was simple. Shipping was a day late in arriving, not a real issue, because I live in a rural area. Shipping delays are expected.
Installation was very straight forward, remove three bolts, replace three bolts. That was all there was as far as the mechanical installation. For the electrical portion I elected to splice into the battery power wire that is part of the 7-wire electric cable on the trailer, in lieu of running a dedicated #10 wire direct from the trailer battery.
The jack seems to operate just fine, as anticipated. I have run the jack a number of times over the last few days without issue.
Why not a 5 star review, just haven't owned it long enough nor operated the jack enough. Ask me in 5 years.
I own 10 trailers for business, I have used many electric tongue jacks. This one stands up to the abuse and time in the weather. Recommend this unit to anyone wanting a reliable electric tongue jack. It is not fast, but it is strong
Absolutely wonderful. I would never have another horse trailer without a Stromberg Carlson Trailer Jack 5000.

It was easy to install and has power to spare. I installed it on a 6000 lb travel trailer that requires the truck to be lifted to easily remove the weight distribution bars. My old jack struggled with the weight. Not this one. Lots of power. It's a simple jack. No memory functions, no auto retract feature. Just two buttons. One to raise and lower the front of the trailer, and one for the lights. My issues are that the lights are essentially worthless. They don't produce much light and being on the side of the unit, they aren't aimed where you need them to be. Also, you have to buy their kit to have a place to hang the chains and the cord or, buy a cover that allows you to do the same. I recommend you buy the cover by the way. Solid buy recommendation
This was a complete gamechanger for us. We formerly had a power jack rated for 2500 lbs. Every time I had to raise it, the whole trailer swayed. It also didn't have the adjustable base, so the height was restricted. Moving up to this jack means no more sway and the option for an additional 5 inches of height. Installation was super simple, as well. Thank you, etrailer, for making it so I no longer live in terror of raising my jack.
A really great product... makes hook up of my concession trailer much easier.

still going strong after one year!
Trailer jack was defective. etrailer.com passed the buck to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was not very receptive and expected me to repair the jack. I purchased a new one and shouldn't have to try to figure out why it wasn't working. I want a new one and should get it from etrailer since I purchased it from them.
So far my experience with etrailer has been great. Easy on line ordering, shipping was very quick. I have not installed my trailer jack but my experience to date has been great.....w

After using our jack for 1 year now, it still works as it should and it makes leveling and hooking up much easier.

Extremely sturdy, built well and a breeze to install. Amazingly quiet! Lifts the front of my 32' toy hauler effortlessly, very pleased with this jack and I am most definitely going to recommend this to my parents and friends. Oh, and quick shipping, received the jack in three days!
The jack has performed great over the past year. The only minor comment would be that the integrated light hasn't been bright enough to use for other tasks other than seeing the switches. As that is as designed feature, it's only a minor inconvenience if you want more light at the trailer hitch.
1 year later still no issues it fit perfect on my trailer and still works perfect

This was a replacement for the original jack on a 10,000 GVW tag trailer. Installation of this jack was extremely easy with the supplied hardware. Wiring was also very easy. The jack is slow moving but it has a big gear reduction to accommodate the 5000 pound rating. This will not be a problem for us as it will only take a minute longer to hook or unhook the trailer. I like the drop leg feature as it makes it more adjustable. The light is a nice feature also as we do some of our trailering at night.

Had this jack for about a year now and am very happy with it. Certainly has met all of our expectations. would highly recommend this product.
Ordered this jack for my enclosed 28’ trailer, works excellently. This jack has plenty of power to raise the trailer and does so fairly quickly. I wish I would’ve installed one a lot sooner, would’ve saved my shoulder from the hand crank one I’ve had for years. etrailer shipped it fast and they have excellent video’s on installation. Overall I am very happy with the jack and have had no issues with it.

Amazing! I would have replaced mine sooner with this and I known. It’s not faster but way more confident, quiet, and has a larger extension without taking up much more space.
