What Weight Measurement is Referenced When Choosing a Trailer Jack
Published 09/23/2015 >
Question:
I need to replace the electric jack on my camper. What weight measurement is used to size of jack? I am a novice and only know enough to me dangerous but is it Gross weight, trailer weight, tongue weight?

The weight measurement from your trailer that you will want to consider when looking at jacks is the trailer's tongue weight. You will want a jack with a capacity that matches or surpasses your trailer's tongue weight.
For example, if your trailer has a tongue weight of 2,000 pounds, the jack you referenced, the Stromberg Carlson Electric Trailer Jack # JET-5000, would be more than sufficient for the trailer. It is capable of a 5000 pound tongue weight. Getting a jack over capacity is good practice as it make the jack work quickly and easily to lift the trailer.
I have attached a help article on trailer jacks for you. If you would like to let me know the tongue weight of your trailer, I will be happy to make a trailer jack recommendation.
