How to Determine the Lift Capacity You Need in a Jack

A trailer jack is designed to lift the tongue of your trailer so you can connect the trailer coupler to your hitch ball. To do this, you'll need a jack with a lift capacity high enough to handle your trailer's tongue weight.

Tongue weight is the amount of weight that your trailer applies to the back of your tow vehicle. Typically, your tongue weight should be 10-15% of your total trailer weight (trailer + cargo). In other words, a 10,000-lb trailer would have a tongue weight between 1,000 lbs and 1,500 lbs. For a trailer this size, you would need a jack with a lift capacity of at least 1,500 lbs.

It's okay to have a jack with a weight rating that is higher than your trailer's tongue weight. In fact, a jack with a higher lift capacity should operate more efficiently, allowing you to spend less time cranking and more time camping.

Trailer and Camper Jack Lift

Every jack offers a certain amount of lift or travel. Screw travel is the distance the jack extends when you crank it (or toggle it to "extend" on an electric model). Some jacks include a drop leg for extra adjustability. On these jacks, you'll see the maximum extension of the drop leg listed in the specs as well. Adding the screw travel and drop leg travel together will give you the total lift. The total lift listed above can help you determine how high this jack will be able to raise your trailer.

Awesome product. My back thanks you. Very easy to install. Only thing I would change is the speed of the motor. A bit slow but still better than hand cranking.

by:

I was amazed at how quickly my replacement from etrailer arrived. I was a bit worried that the installation of my new jack would be more difficult that I expected. The reverse proved to be the case, it was very simple to place the trailer tongue on jack stands, remove the old jack and install the new one. As the old saying goes "even a cave man could do it."

by:

I didn't install the Jack but the guy who did liked it. I won't use it till we go camping.

by:

Nice addition to my RPod 180, install was fast and easy, the up and down are a little slower than I hoped for but still moves faster than you can crank with the OEM jack. Very pleased with form/fit/quality, communication from etrailer was stellar.

by:

It was a breeze to attach it to my travel trailer and worked flawlessly. Makes my job of setting up stress free.

by:

Installation was very easy. Works fine when using battery power. I have never gotten the jack to work using the accessory power cable hooked to the back of my truck. Not sure if it's a problem with the cable, jack or whatever.
Also, the jack seems to move more slowly than the last one I had, which was also lippert.

Comments
Thank you for your review. I would test the 1 oclock position of your 7-way on the vehicle with a circuit tester, like item # 40376, which is the 12v power circuit. It should show active all of the time. If it is not active then the jack will not be powered by the 7-way plug, so we would need to figure out why, which is more than likely a blown fuse.

Easy to install and came in 2 days ahead of original delivery date. I have only used it once and I am happy with it. It is slow but not noisy and sure beats cranking my old manual one.

Easy install, a little slower than I thought it would be. All GOOD

by:

Jack was easy to install, fit perfectly. Like others who have commented, it’s a bit slow, but in no way does it take away from the product. It’s faster than me straining my arm and shoulder doing it. It looks and feels like a very good jack. All parts were included and are also of good quality. As every order I have made, service was excellent and better than other companies, no matter the industry. Good price as well. Thanks!

by:

My back thanks you

by:

by:

by:

Jack came in earlier than expected and worked great on our trailer, all you have to do is hit the button!!

by:

Sorry, sold trailer/w jack

by:

The power plug is very flimzy the prongs are made with very soft metal and bend very easly.

by:

works great, installs in less than 30 m in.

by:

Fantastic product that does exactly what I wanted. Shipping was exceptionally fast!

by:

It bolted right into the previous bracket. The bolt pattern is a triangle. The install took an hour. It works great so far, very quiet.

by:

Works great and love it

by:

Its slow but over all good product, easy to install. Would I buy another one? Yes.

  • Troubleshooting 3500lb Electric A-Frame Jack on 2020 Ford F350
It sounds like your 2020 Ford F350 may either be missing or have a blown fuse or relay. Some newer trucks will even not have the relay installed on the charge line portion of the 7-way plug. I would consult your owners manual to see if the correct fuses and relays are in place or if they are damaged. It looks like it should be fuse # 26 (30 amp) of the under hood fuse box.

  • Do You Need To Grease The Lippert Power Stance Tongue Jack?
The Lippert Power Stance Electric Trailer Jack w/ 7-Way Plug # LC89VR does not require to be greased by the operator. The owners manual and installation instructions give no reference to greasing the jack. I would not recommend putting grease on the jack as the grease will capture dirt that will cause the jack to run slower and have issues.

  • Fit of Lippert LC89VR Power Stance Powered Trailer Jack on Utility Trailer A-Frame
As long as the tow vehicle has a 7-way trailer connector with a functional 12-v power supply circuit on the pin in the 1:00 position, the Lippert # LC89VR Power Stance powered trailer jack will plug in and operate. The jack has a 3500 lb lift capacity, and fits the industry standard 3 inch center to center 3-bolt pattern on a trailer A-frame. I've linked to an installation/demonstration video that you might find helpful.

The 3 LED lights on the Lippert Power Stance Electric Trailer Jack w/ 7-Way Plug - A-Frame - 18" Lift - 3,500 lbs # LC89VR you were looking at will turn on when the extend and retract switch is pressed, and will stay on for 5 minutes. • Are Bracket Heights The Distance From Mounting Plate to Foot on Lippert Power Stance Trailer Jack
That's a good question and yes, the bracket heights referenced does mean the distance from the mounting plate to the foot when retracted and extended for the jack you referenced, which is the following part: - Lippert Power Stance Electric Trailer Jack # LC89VR So when this jack is fully retracted, the distance from the bracket to the foot is 10-3/4 inches, and when the foot is all the way extended, the distance is 28-3/4 inches. • Troubleshooting Lippert Power Stance Electric Trailer Jack LC89VR No Longer Working
I would be happy to help! Now the cause for the power not getting to your Lippert Power Stance Electric Trailer Jack # LC89VR will be dependent on if you are using the 7-way adapter to draw power from your vehicles 7-way connector, or if you hard wired the jack to the battery on your trailer. Starting with the 7-way connector option I recommend using a circuit tester like # 40376 to verify that the 12v power pin of your 7-way connector is working correctly. This is the 1 o'clock pin as...

  • Will the Lippert Power Stance Electric Trailer Jack Work with 4" Mounting Pattern
The industry standard a-frame trailer tongue jack mounting pattern is 3" on center. The jacks we offer for this standard like the Lippert Power Stance Electric Trailer Jack part # LC89VR have slotted mounting holes so they will work even if the dimensions are slightly askew but you may have to enlarge the holes slightly if they don't quite match up. This would be the case for nearly all jacks since they use the same industry standard mounting pattern.

  • Can The Head On The Lippert Jack LC89VR Be Rotated For Tail Gate Clearance
Though the head on the Lippert Power Stance Electric Trailer Jack w/ 7-Way Plug - A-Frame - 18" Lift - 3,500 lbs # LC89VR is fixed and cannot be rotated, there is another way to get the clearance needed. The standard 3 bolt pattern this installs in is an equilateral triangle, so you technically can turn the jack and mount it not facing forward. It will work exactly the same, but the LED lights will no longer face the coupler.

  • Why Would The Lippert Power Stance Work Off The Auxiliary Cord And Not The Coach Battery?
It sounds like you have one of two possible issues with the Lippert Power Stance Electric Trailer Jack # LC89VR. First there is a fuse on the power wire that is not present on the Auxiliary Power Cord # LC79VR. Be sure to check the fuse. The second issue to check is your ground connection. Since your trailer frame is painted as well as the jack the mounting brackets do not always make the best contact. The jack uses the frame as the ground circuit so you may need to grind off some of...
