I gave a 3 since both items were to be rated together. The water heater would have received a 4 and the door kit a 2. Reason is the door corner was bent and paint cracked on a corner. Chose not to send back and wait since the water heater was installed, needed to get the front covered. Package did not look dented, but guess it could have been dropped by the shipper.

We have Hot Water ! We live in our RV full time so we needed a Hot Water Heater of good quality. Time will tell if this Dometic Hot Water Heater is as good as the old Atwood which it replaced. The packaging was good ! Hot Water Heater appears to be well made. No problems installing the directions were clear and it fired right up. This replacement Hot Water Heater is smaller than our original so we purchased the enlarged door kit which fit perfectly. Great communication with etrailer which helped us find the correct Water Heater for our application. There website information was accurate and we had no problem contacting a human voice when needed.. We are Happy Campers !

One Year Later ~ Hot water Heater is working very well. Pros~ This replacement water heater seems to recover faster than the original. My previous hot water heater was only propane gas so this one has the electric option which works well. Cons~ Burner flame blows out when we have a 20 plus MPH. east wind directly. There are no flame adjustments just a circuit board which controls all the settings.. This hot water heater needs a external wind screen protector to mount over the door to keep the burner flame from blowing out..

This replaced a propane only water heater and it is great have the electric option, saved me a ton of propane. It also went right in with no problems.

A year ago I discovered that I needed a new hot water heater and it was just a few days before a major camping trip. My order was processed quickly and the item came in time for me to install it. I was extremely happy with the turn around service and the product.

by:

Perfect swap for our used RV's old water heater from the 90's.

by:

My water heater leaked and It was the old style that is no longer available. This one needed some conversion but it fit. I even made a pan to go under it in case it leaked again.
I used two 1/2” supply lines to make the connections because they were in different locations. Worked like a champ!
Had to use the door conversion which fit perfect.

by:

Package arrived very quickly in perfect condition, less than one week, sooner than expected.
I am building a cargo trailer conversion and won't install it for a while. I wanted to have for placement location planning. I am confident it will perform as expected.
AND ! the customer service is excellent ! I was even emailed directly by my sales rep with shipping updates.

by:

Initially I was worried about whether all my existing wires would correctly line up with the wires on the new unit since my old unit was discontinued. It was perfect. The water intake and outflow on the new unit was aligned differently so I had to get a couple of fittings and crimping tool... Was in the end a jiff to install and worked perfectly. Just remember to always winterize from now on lol. I highly recommend the products I purchased.

by:

Will was super helpful in identifying the water heater I needed. The order process was simple and I received the new unit in under a week.
Great work!!

by:

This product arrived on time was a direct fit replacement and works great!!

by:

Happy with the Dometic water heater i got from etrailer. One year and it is still working great and this trailer is a full time live aboard. My old one was leaking.

by:

Damaged product. Received Damaged.

That is terrible news! I will have our customer service team reach out to quickly so we can have this taken care of for you.

Wish I bought a different brand. Not efficient, takes a while for fire to ignite, heavy propane smell once activated.
Cody - 07/11/2023

by:

Fairly easy install with a few modifications to the original opening for it. It fired right up after the install. Works great. I enjoy the 12 volt and the 110 feature.

by:

The heater install was fairly straightforward.
There
was a bit of redoing to get it all alighned properly.
Main issue I had was the old unit had a 3 wire control system and the new direct replacement model had 4.So it took a bit to figure out the configuration as the install instructions were for the new unit.
To me a direct replacement is pull old out slip new in, plug and play.

by:

Great product, still working good

by:

Packaging and everything was in great shape it was an exact match to my replacement less than an hour to install. Everything went perfect

by:

Easy to install with the instructions and it works great

by:

The jury is still out. When I opened the box there was a screw in the bottom. I found the place it came out of and tried to put it in. But the hole was stripped. Several other screws were also stripped and almost all the rest were loose. I replaced the screws with bigger ones so they would stay in place.

1 year and so far working perfectly

by:

etrailer had the best price and shipped this thing fast. I also got the water heater door kit since my rv is older and had a larger cut out. The electric by itself gets very hot combined with the gas this unit will give you long showers. I gave 4 stars because the box was now sealed properly luckily nothing fell out

by:

Did not come with a cover. But, the water gets hot so fast. I use electric and the propane at the same time.

by:

Awesome water heater. If you are going to the trouble to replace a bad unit, this is the only way to go.

by:

shipping damage bent flanges in front of unit just better box from factory but the unit works great over all very satisfied shipping very prompt

  • P-T Only Meaning On The Thermostat Of An Atwood GE19-EXT Water Heater
The "P-T Only" you see on the ECO/T-Stat Label on your Dometic RV Water Heater # DMC74FR is a warning saying that only the pressure/temperature relief valve can go there so people don't try sticking anything else in its place preventing it from relieving excess pressure.

  • Troubleshooting Hot Water Issues In A 2021 Entegra Coach RV

  • Troubleshooting A DSI-FLT Error On An Atwood RV Water Heater
DSI stands for direct spark ignition and FLT stands for fault. Normally you would see this error code on your Dometic RV Water Heater # DMC74FR if it tried to ignite the burner on the water heater but failed. First thing is to check your propane supply. The second thing would be to check the burn chamber to see if it is clogged with carbon flakes and clean it out. Since you're not running it in gas mode it means that the ECO (Energy Cut Off Switch) is causing your issue. This switch will...

  • Troubleshooting A Dometic RV Water Heater That's Overheating Water
Hot water heater models like the Dometic RV Water Heater # DMC74FR use and ECO (energy cut-off) Thermostat instead of an adjustable thermostat. These thermostats are preset and are not able to be adjusted. They are typically set for 130 degrees so if you're experiencing temperatures higher than that you'll want to replace your thermostat. You'll have to reach out to Dometic for a replacement thermostat.
