Video Transcript for Redline Tires and Wheels 12CLN Review

Narrator: Today we're going to review part number 12CLN. This is the half-inch by 20 chrome trailer wheel lug nut. Now this is designed to fit bolts that are half-inch by 20 and that size means that it's a half-inch diameter and 20 threads per inch. Now this lug nut does use the 60 degree cone, you can see here at the bottom, and that's designed to fit the 60 degree taper on the wheel. This does have an overall length, let's measure the overall length on this and it's going to be at 1 and 3/8 inches for the overall length. It does use a hex-head size or socket size of 3/4 of an inch.

You can see I happen to have a deep well 3/4 inch socket, and it fits perfectly in there. Now what's nice on these lugs, I just want to show you here, have an example. Pan out a little bit so we can . If you notice these are the trailer wheels and usually on trailer wheels they come with just a standard short, open end lug nut on there. So what's nice with these lug nuts, they are a little bit taller and they are a closed end so when you do put them on, gives a nice finish to it and being longer it gives you more for your socket to grip on to when you're trying to loosen them or tighten them, either way. The other nice thing is on your, you can use these lug nuts on a, when people lots of time will switch from a, they want a fancier wheel, so they'll switch from the standard steel wheel to the nicer looking aluminum type wheel. When you do that, lots of times the lug holes on the aluminum wheels, it's a lot deeper setting there where the lug nut goes and if you try to use your regular lug nuts, the short ones, you can see they fit in there but there's no room for a socket to fit in and they're pretty much flush.

It's hard to get to them. So lots of times when people switch to the fancier wheels, they'll use these closed end, little bit longer lug nuts. You'll see when you put those on, gives you more length for your socket to grip on to and it gives you a nice clean finish with the closed end on them. Also on your lug nuts you'll notice that most of them will be, zoom in again and I'll show you, they are using stamped on by their half-inch by 20 so you can identify what size lug nut this is. But that should do it for the review on part number 12CLN. This is the half-inch by 20 chrome trailer wheel lug nut. .

I bought 26 of these chrome lug nuts from etrailer.com. 24 for 4 wheels with 6 lugs per wheel and a couple of spares. All of the lugs nuts are very consistent in quality and finish, and all went on the lugs smoothly. What more can you ask for? Looks to be a great product at a very reasonable price. 662393

Ordered 2 new trailer wheels, center covers, lug nuts and wheel locks. They arrived in excellent condition the following day. Wanted to make sure that everything I ordered was exactly what I needed. I spoke with Mr. McCoy who was very helpful and professional. Had to find great customer service these days but my expectations were exceeded! 636405

Used these on a 10k flatbed trailer; the last open set of lug nuts had a couple rust over and had to replace studs. I wanted something with closed ends and lots of them. Local auto parts stores had similar parts for just a little more, however I couldn't find enough of them at a time to have them come close to a match. I got all 24 and they're working out well. Yes, I could have gotten lugs cheaper from other big-name websites. However as I read reviews from those products, the quality was severely lacking. etrailer.com has good quality parts at a great price. 134362

I am writing this very favorable review of my online shopping experience with etrailer. Recently I had to replace the brakes, hubs, wheels and tires on my travel trailer. Please keep in mind that I am a 65 year old man without a lot of experience with online shopping. Never-the-less, I decided to give it a try in hopes of saving some money. To my surprise, etrailer made the experience very easy and painless. Before I placed my order on line, I had a question about one of the items on my shopping list, so I placed a call to them. I spoke with a very lovely and patient Customer Service Representative by the name of Michelle S. She was very helpful in answering my questions and encouraged me to call her back directly when I was ready to place my order; and so I did. During the shipping process, she kept me informed through emails the status of my order and everything arrived on time and in great shape. I truly appreciate the personalized services I received doing business with etrailer. They truly removed all of the uncertainty and nervousness of shopping online. 367135

I had to purchase these lug nuts after I realized that the new Aluminum HWT Hi-Spec series 06 I bought from etrailer wouldn't mount. My existing lugs were to short. I called etrailer and spoke with Hally C. and she set me up with the 12CLN's. The only bad thing is with my new rims they have a center cap and I can't show off these new beauties. : ( 440594

First about the product. Looks great and works as advertised. Now for a helpful hint. I put these lug nuts on my Jayco travel trailer. Travel trailer lug nuts should be torqued often to make sure they are at the correct tightness. Too tight and you could damage your axle, too loose and you could lose a wheel. Unfortunately, most trailers have cheap chinese lug nuts with even cheaper chrome lug nut covers over them. I don't know how you can reliably torque them when the covers crack and spin on the nut. Removing all the covers before torqueing is a real pain too. They make a tool to get them off but it doesn't work. Bottom line is for 99 cents each you can replace them all and torque them properly and not have to worry about it. By the way, the people at etrailer.com are on the ball. I got an e-mail this morning from them and it said their tracker showed the nuts had been delivered. Went to the mailbox and there they were. Thanks for a great product and service. 85307

Lugnuts still working great and they look great even after torqueing. Still cant figure out why the RV manufacturers wont spend the extra $20 to make sure the wheels stay on your $80,000 RV.

I ordered new stainless steel lug nuts to replace the ones that came standard on our new travel trailer. The lug nuts that come on it are the ones with the aluminum cap and strip under pressure when torquing the lug nuts. Very speedy shipping and they fit perfectly. Very happy with etrailer. 96249

I purchased a new set of lug nuts to finish off the wheels on our 1990 Fleetwood Prowler Regal travel trailer. I had repainted the rims and installed new tires, and polished the beauty rings and center caps, but the original lug nuts looked shabby. A major name-brand auto parts store in our area wanted more for the same lug nuts I purchased here. I think they look great, and they installed without any problems. 191028

These lug nuts will replace the factory lug nuts that have a chrome cover over a 18mm nut even though you use a 3/4" socket to remove them.. The problem with factory lug nut is that they are good looking but not good if you spin off the outer chrome cover then you are not able to remove the lug nut when you have a flat tire. Replace you old lug nuts with a solid ones! 398523

The OEM lug nuts kept losing their "chrome shell" making them both ugly and making them hard to remove. I super glued some of the shells back on, and also kept one "shell" in the glove box so that if I had to remove an OEM nut with the OEM wrench I could. Now that I've replaced half of the OEM nuts with these solid one-piece nuts, I no longer have that problem. I replaced the other half with a different solid style, and those are working great too. A year of hard work and off-roading, and they're all still like new! I'd definitely buy these again, but since they work so good I don't have to! 438293

So TWO years since I installed them, and they still work great. A few have a touch of rust, but given the constant changes of street -vs- off-road tire, this is quite good IMHO. Quite happy, still not needing to buy any more....

As part of our camper renovation, we replaced the ugly wheels on our camper with these. OMG, do they look so good! We finished the look with the center caps and lug nuts. Great quality and value for a low price! 756088

Not sure what to say about lug nuts in a review :). That being said, these seem to be high quality (a lot better than auto parts stores). They look and work great, and are not cap style nuts as far as I can tell. 749867

My purchasing experience with Etrailer has been extraordinarily positive during the past month as I attempted to coordinate the purchase of 10-12 major items and many smaller accessories. All needed to work together. Indeed, the first part of one order arrived today. I assume the second part is the package I have been notified will arrive tomorrow. A second order has shipped, and I expect to place one, or more, additional substantial orders before the end of the year. 737617

  • Can Boat Trailer Use Open and Closed Lug Nuts
Some boaters actually swear by closed lug nuts as in general water is kept away from more of the wheel stud. With either setup though you still risk having problems that might cause a lug to break but I wouldn't necessarily blame your issue on the lug being closed. Whichever you are more comfortable with will work fine as there isn't a specific style that absolutely should not be used on a boat trailer.

  • How To Determine the Correct Size Lug Nuts For a Trailer
The three most common lug stud sizes for a trailer are 1/2"-20, 9/16"-18, and 5/8"-18. In order to make sure you get the correct lug nuts you need to measure the lug studs on the trailer now as we have no way to look this up for individual trailers. I have attached a few options based on the lug stud size below. The 1/2"-20 studs are used on small-medium duty trailers whereas the 9/16"-18 and 5/8"-18 lug studs are used on larger duty trailers. I checked an online manual for Heartland travel trailers but this did not include specifics about the lug nuts to be used. These may vary depending on the specific model of trailer you have so its best to check your owner's manual to confirm the correct lug nuts to use and also their correct torque value. • Long 1/2 Inch Chrome Lug Nuts for a 2005 Hitchhiker 5th Wheel Trailer
Since your old lug nuts were 2 inches long, I recommend using # 12CLN-L which has an overall length of 1-15/16 inches, close enough to call it a 2 inch long lug nut. I do not recommend the use of an impact wrench, not because of the damage like you have experienced but because the lug nuts should be torqued to a specific amount. For a 1/2"-20 it should be 75 to 85 foot pounds.
