Video Transcript for Replacement Shock Absorber for Dexter Model 60 Brake Actuators Spec Review

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. And today, we're gonna take a brief look at this replacement shock absorber for the Titan Model 60 brake actuators. This is going to replace the shock absorber for the Titan Model 60 brake actuators. And this is also going to fit the Dico Model 60 brake actuators as well. Now, just to give you some overall dimensions, gonna pull out my ruler here.

Looking at the collapsed length, I'm not gonna be able to show you the extended length. But looking at the collapse length, lining up my ruler center to center here, we are sitting right at almost five inches as you can see there, center to center. So, that's gonna be the collapsed length. And on the extended length, this is gonna be sitting right at about 6 1/4 inches. So, if you are needing a replacement shock absorber for your Titan or Dico Model 60 brake actuator, this is going to be an exact replacement from Titan, so you can trust that it's going to work with your Model 60 brake actuators.

Well, that's gonna conclude our brief look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me..

fast shipping, just what I needed.

by:

Shock looked and fit perfect, fast shipping

by:

received this part in good condition, installed and found it to work well.
thanks.

by:

Product as advertised. Delivered on schedule.

by:

This product was of very good quality. There were no problems in installing it and it's working fine.

by:

the product is fine, it was just not the right shock for a Dexter/UFP A-60. The website is not real clear on this and probably needs to be adjusted.

by:

Just finished putting brakes, rims and new tires on my boat trailer. Etrailer had everything I needed to get the Job done. I received my tires and wheels only to discover I was sent 3-14" tires and 1-15". I quickly called and talked with Courtney and she was very apologetic and made sure the right tire and rim were sent out the same day. I received it 5 days later and was able to complete the job. I will definitely use etrailer again in the future, it was a pleasure dealing with them. Here is a picture of my project.

by:

Easy replacement and working like it’s supposed to.

by:

Found this shock online here at etrailer which I had trouble finding anywhere else with any confidence. The listing on etrailer.com helped me identify the exact shock I needed for my 25 year old Surge unit. Fit right, works great! Thanks etrailer! Gary

by:

1987 ranger trail I am so amazed that you had these parts every one said I would have to replace the whole coupler but with your help and expertise I was able to rebuild it every thing fit perfectly and is working great highly recommend etrailer thank you

Ordered this shock absorber for the surge breaks on my car dolley. When I was towing my car on the dolley, the surge breaks would 'chuck' (swiftly engaging and disengaging causing the dolley and car to quickly stop / start as the breaks went on and off) The shock fit exactly and seems to have fixed the problem. That takes a lot of the worry about towing a car off my shoulders, and that is a good thing!!

I ordered the part on a Tuesday and it arrived here in Florida, after crossing half the country, on Friday morning. Great job!

It has been a year since I wrote this review. A year and 5000 miles. The shock absorber continues to do its job as designed. Anyone with this chucking problem should take a look at this cure. Easy to do and worth the effort

by:

Good service

by:

Item appeared to have been installed / used though listed as new. The part’s appearance does not matter but getting long service life does

by:

Fit well on my 20 yr old trailex alum car trailer. This part along with a new master cylinder solved the shuttering when applying brakes. The hydraulic channels in the master cyl are tiny and corrosion can block the channels.

by:

There was a loud clunk and you could feel it when using the surge brakes on our ski boat trailer. The master cylinder was badly pitted. Now the braking is smooth and responsive.

by:

part is correct and is now installed on trailer hitch

still working fine good quality

by:

Etrailer transaction was easy and delivery of the shock and master cylinder was fast. Both products installed without any mods and my boat trailer is a dream to tow now.

by:

easy install on hydraulic brake actuator for 6000 lb boat/trailer. trailer was slamming when stopping/starting

by:

I was pleased with the brake lines and trailer shock absorber. I received what was shown. They came in a timely manner, was what I needed and was reasonably priced. Thank you. I am installing them today. Will be back to order more parts in the future.

by:

Can’t actually tell if this is working or not…. Boat trailer just bounces when it’s stopped at an intersection

by:

Brakes were rebuilt with etrailer parts and are working great. Thanks // etrailer.

by:

This was exactly what I needed to fix the tongue on my trailer. It was sliding in and out about three inches, causing a bang when a started and stopped. The trailer is for a 2000 Bayliner boat. This shock absorber matched the old one perfectly. And, it only took about ten minutes to replace.
Perfect part and delivered very quickly.

by:

Fits and works perfectly. Rebuilt entire coupler and trailer springs

by:

Product came well packaged, and was identical to the shock being replaced easy install, no more clanking when starting and stopping ( also replaced master cylinder)

by:

Shipping was quick, the price was excellent, and now my trailer is all fixed up.

Thanks again

  • My Surge Brakes Are Activating When I Back Up My Trailer - What Can I Do?
Hello Gregg, I think I can help shed some light on what is going on. Basically, there are two ways to stop surge brakes from actuating when backing up the trailer. The first and most popular way to do this is to use a surge brake actuator with a reverse lockout. For example, the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX56FR has an electric lockout. The solenoid is wired to the reverse light circuit on the tow vehicle. This way when the vehicle is put in reverse, the actuator will be locked...

  • Replacement Master Cylinder for Older Model Titan Model 60 Brake Actuator
I spoke with my technical contact at Titan and showed him the photo that you sent in of your actuator. My contact confirmed that you actuator is a Model 60. The right replacement master cylinder for you will depend on what kind of brakes the actuator is designed for. If the brakes have never been changed out, you can determine this by checking if the trailer has disc or drum brakes. If your actuator is designed for drum brakes, you will want the Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly #...

  • Troubleshooting Surge Brakes Not Releasing Pressure
Hi Don; since the brakes aren't releasing it sounds like you have a bad master cylinder. Depending on the design it may also be the shock. It sounds like they are drum brakes so assuming it is the Dexter Model 60 the Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly # T4395100 you were looking at will work as a replacement. If you need a replacement shock it is the # T2336200.

  • Troubleshooting Disc Brakes Not Releasing
If your disc brakes like the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2R35S are not releasing it is likely an issue with the hydraulic actuator. Oftentimes this is the shock of the actuator having gone bad so it won't release all the way, so that would be the first thing to check; you could possibly replace it if that is the case. For example, if you had a Titan Model 60 Actuator you could use the Replacement Shock Absorber for Titan Model 60 Brake Actuators # T2336200.

  • Replacement Shock Absorber for Titan Trailer Brake Actuator Model 60
For your Titan Model 60 Brake Actuator, I recommend the Replacement Shock Absorber for Titan Model 60 Brake Actuators # T2336200. This shock is a direct replacement and has and extended length of 6-1/4 inches and collapsed length of 4-15/16 inches.

  • Troubleshooting Brakes Locked Up on Surge Brake Coupler
Hi Gene; I agree it is probably the master cylinder. I'm not 100% sure about the shock absorber since I don't see your order to know what actuator it actually is. However, I can't imagine you not seeing it is an issue if it worked for the last two years. If it is a Dexter Model 60 the correct master cylinder replacement is the # T4820000.

  • Replacing the Shock Absorber on a Titan Model 60 Actuator
The current shock absorber on your Titan Model 60 actuator won't be under any kind of pressure so it is simply a matter of taking the actuator apart to get at the absorber. The Replacement Shock Absorber for Titan Model 60 Brake Actuators # T2336200 may need to be slightly compressed when you fit it into the actuator but this is something that can be done by hand. It should be fully expanded when you receive it so you won't have to worry about expanding it for the installation.

  • Troubleshooting Titan Model 60 Brake Actuating Coupler Not Releasing Disc Brakes
Since your brakes aren't releasing, it sounds like you either have a bad master cylinder in your surge coupler or a bad shock. The caliper piston moved when you released the pressure with the bleed valve, so it appears the plunger on the master cylinder is not responding when you release the brakes. This could be the master cylinder # T4820000 or it could be the shock # T2336200 has gone bad not allowing the pressure to be released.

  • Worn Out Actuator Shock Troubleshooting, Loud Clanking on Acceleration
It sounds like the shock is worn out in your coupler and it is no longer functioning as a dampener to allow the coupler to return slowly and that is the clanking sound you are hearing. • Troubleshooting Non-Electric Drum Brakes on an EZ Loader Trailer That Lock Up Moving Forward
It sounds like you have surge brakes on your EZ Loader Duel axle trailer for your 1989 Bayliner. If your brakes are locking up when trying to move forward, it sounds like there is a mechanical error happening and it is most likely happening in the coupler. Something like a sticking piston in the wheel cylinder keeping pressure on the brake shoes or a plunger in the master cylinder that is not releasing. There is a shock like the # T2336200 in the coupler to help the coupler return to position...

  • Troubleshooting Surge Brakes Locking Up When Moving Forward
Surge brakes use a hydraulic actuator to push fluid to the cylinder piston to activate the brake shoes on drum brakes or brake pads on disc brakes. This pressure should only be applied when weight is pushing against the hitch ball, so no pressure when moving forward and pulling the trailer. With brakes dragging and locking up when going forward, there has to be something mechanically incorrect in the system like a sticking piston in the wheel cylinder keeping pressure on the brake shoes...

  • What Does Shock Absorber on Titan Model 60 Surge Brake Actuator Do?
The Replacement Shock Absorber for Titan Model 60 Brake Actuators # T2336200 for your Titan Model 60 Surge Brake Actuator ensures smooth operation of the brakes when you apply the brakes of your tow vehicle by easing the trailer forward. Without a shock the actuator would apply the brakes very sporadically and cause a less than pleasant towing experience.

  • Troubleshooting EZ Loadr Boat Trailer Brake Issues
It sounds like the fact your brakes are locking and releasing is what will cause the bounce and porpoising you are describing. It sounds to me like your surge brake actuator is sticking and then releasing and then doing so again and again as you slow down. This could be from a shock like the Replacement Shock Absorber for Titan Model 60 Brake Actuators # T2336200 not working correctly, a wheel cylinder/brake caliper issue if that is only happening on one side, or a master cylinder issue...

  • Hydraulic Trailer Brakes Lock Up Moving Forward Using Titan Brake Actuator
Disc brake actuators like # T4747200 do not have a check valve in them or a device to keep pressure in the system like drum brake actuators do. On a drum brake actuator there is a check valve inside the master cylinder that regulates the amount of pressure that goes back to the brakes. The wheel cylinders on hydraulic drum brakes will hold pressure as well. If the master cylinder and wheel cylinders (if the trailer has drum brakes) are fine then you could have some air in the system or...

  • Trailer Brake Actuator Can be Easily Moved by Hand
You are correct, there should be resistance and you probably would not be able to move it by hand without some sort of lever if it was working properly. It does sound like it is time for a new one or repair the old one. If your actuator is a bolt on then it would easier to just get a new one rather than replace parts on the old one. If the Titan coupler you have is for disc brake applications and it were used on drum brake applications, the psi level would be too high.
