Hi everyone, Aidan here with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at this two inch shank adapter for your inch and a quarter Kuat bike racks. This will fit a variety of different bike racks from Kuat, excluding the first generation Kuat NV. What it's gonna do is take your inch and a quarter bike rack and convert it to two inch. So if you maybe have the same bike rack, but you changed vehicles, and now, you've got a two inch hitch, you don't need to buy a whole new bike rack. Or maybe you already had one that had an adapter and maybe it got lost or broken or damaged and you just wanna replace it, this is gonna do that.
Let's check it out. Getting things set up, we already have our Transfer on the ground, and you'll notice that we've got our two threaded holes and the larger hole for the hitch pin. Setting this in place, you'll see all those holes line up just fine, and we can take the included hardware to secure it. I'll just loosely start by hand to make sure it holds itself in place, and we can come back through and fully tighten it down. This tool isn't included with the adapter, but it's the same one that came with your bike rack, so if you still have that handy, you can use that.
From there, it's just a matter of test fitting it in our two inch hitch, slides in just fine. That hitch pin hole should line up just like it did before. (Aidan installing bike rack) Just have to lift up on the bike rack a little bit to get it to line up properly. And then, since the actual adapter is on the opposite side of the anti-rattle, that will still work as normal too. And giving everything a shake, it's all in there nice and solid, there's no movement in that hitch, and the adapter is installed.
Overall, it's a really easy part to get and install, especially if you get a new hitch or a new vehicle, you can keep using the same bike rack you already have. Thanks for watching.
A cost-effective solution for transferring my 1.25" Sherpa rack to my new 2" hitch vehicle. Attaches and fits as advertised, and is rattle-free when tightened down. It appears to be formed of some type of aluminum, so time will tell how well it fares sandwiched between two pieces of metal.
Quality product and fantastic service from etrailer!!! Unfortunately this item is SPECIFICALLY for certain generation or model Kuat racks. It did not align correctly to an older model rack.

Five stars for our Kuat Sherpa rack with 1.25” mount, but I wasn’t able to buy a 1.25” hitch for my Genesis SUV. The shank adapter allows me to use the rack on both cars. Most importantly, the adapter doesn’t get in the way of the rack’s internal tightening wedge, so the rack never wiggles or sways on either SUV. Nice thinking Kuat.
I upgraded my Subaru Outback and the newer model had a 2"hitch. I owned the Kuat bike rack with the 1.25 inch diameter so needed to get the adapter so I could continue to use the bike rack. It arrived is short order and was very easy to install. I love my Kuat bike rack and was very happy to be able to continue using it with this adapter.

The adapter for my Kuat bike rack has worked flawlessly for the year I have used it. And it gets used almost daily. I am very satisfied with the product and would do it again.

It worked as described. It doesn't allow you to utilize the tighten feature on the Kuat rack though because it covers it up during install.. besides that it allows you to own a 1 1/4" Kuat rack but install it in your 2" receiver hitch.

It works great. I no longer need it for 1.25 inch receivers, but it fits very tight on my 2 receiver.
The aluminum sleeve which transformed my 2” trailer from my 1.5” Kuat rack has worked perfectly since the installation. I could not be more pleased with this excellent product!

I have a 1 1/4" Kuat Sherpa 2.0, and I purchased this adapter so I could switch my Kuat Sherpa 2.0 between my car and my wife's SUV, on which I recently installed a 2" hitch. Not surprisingly, the adapter works exactly as advertised. It screws easily into the Sherpa's shank, and the hitch pin holes line up perfectly, allowing me to lock the Sherpa into the 2" receiver.
Above and beyond this, the purchasing experience through etrailer.com was as simple as it gets. I placed the order, and few hours later I got a link to click on for tracking it as it traveled across the country.
I would highly recommend Kuat products, and I would highly recommend buying from etrailer.com.
This product is exactly what I needed to make a simple conversion of my 1 an 1/4" bike rack to a 2" hitch receiver. It was very reasonably priced and came in about a week's time. And it allows me to use the lock system that I had originally purchased with my Kuat bike rack. It is a nicer, lighter and sleeker product than other adapters I found on the market and it stabilized the rack better by keeping it closer to the vehicle hitch receiver.
This Adapter was EXACTLY what I needed. The hitch on my car is a 2" receiver, but my Kuat Bike Rack is a 1 1/4". The guy who installed my hitch gave me an adapter to use, but there was WAY TOO MUCH PLAY in the set up, and I was uncomfortable driving with my bike and rack. I then ordered this Kuat Bike Rack Shank adapter, screwed it on, and the entire set up fit snugly into my hitch. I'm free to go anywhere with my bike now. Very happy :)
Strong with good fit. 2 issues are:
1) Pin alignment between rack and receptacle didn't allow Kuat's lock to be inserted. This adapter leaves the rack stem off-center so it doesn't work with security pins crossing the center axis.
2) (Minor) the edges are very raw. After slicing my fingers twice I filed down the edges w/ metal file and sandpaper. Would recommend doing this out of the box.
Worked as expected. Am now able to use my 1.25" Kuat bike rack with two different vehicles... one with 1.25" hitch receiver and one with 2" hitch receiver using this adapter.
The Kuat Bike Rack Shank Adapter was exactly what we needed for installing our Kuat bike rack into our two inch hitch. We installed it immediately without ay problems and have used it several times. The rack sits securely on the back of our Subaru Outback and we don't worry at all about it. We like that it is lightweight aluminum, very sturdy, and simple to install with only two screws and an Allen wrench. Great product!
What a simple solution to a problem. I thought we needed to need to buy a new bike rack when we upgraded to a 2" receiver but this adapter saved saved us from having to do that. Easy to install and use.
Despite some of the mixed reviews seen from that big box site and other sites, this adapter fits and works perfectly for my Kuat Sherpa 2.0 1.25” rack into a 2” hitch. The fit is actually better with the adapter than it was on my old 1.25” hitch without the adapter. Holes and screws line up perfectly to secure the rack to the adapter and to the hitch. Quick standard shipping and competitive pricing as well. Satisfied!
With this Shank Adapter my Kuat Bike rack will not only work on my wife's Malibu (1.25" hitch) but also on my truck and as well as on our travel trailer; they both have the 2" hitch receiver. Great price with great service as always.

It doesn’t fit the Kuat Sherpa bike rack There are two screws in the kit but you can only use one and the product doesn’t align correctly so it partially covers the bolt hole. Nice shiny product but incorrectly engineered for my bike rack. Other reviews note a similar problem
I have 2 vehicles; one with a 1.25" receiver and one with a 2" receiver. This adapter gives me the flexibility to use my Kuat Sherpa 2.0 (1.25" rack) on both vehicles. The shank fits great on my rack.
