Features to know about

Easy Loading and Access: Foot-Operated Tilt and Fold

Getting to your gear shouldn’t mean unloading your bikes. The Sherpa 2.0 solves that with a spring-loaded foot lever that tilts the rack down even when fully loaded. Both hands stay free so you can lower it in a controlled way, grab what you need, and get rolling again. When you’re done, the same lever folds the rack up neatly for compact storage.

Lightweight Strength: 32 lbs with 40 lb Capacity Per Bike

Hauling bikes shouldn’t feel like hauling weights. The Sherpa 2.0’s aluminum body keeps total rack weight down to just 32 lbs, yet it securely carries 2 bikes up to 40 lbs each. The gray metallic powder coat resists rust, and the design includes a built-in 3-1/2" rise in the shank for added ground clearance. It’s a sturdy, easy-to-handle setup for everyday rides or weekend trips.

No Frame Contact: Ratcheting Wheel Hooks

Your carbon or custom-painted frames stay untouched. The Sherpa’s rotating arms use ratcheting hooks that grab bikes by the front wheel only, keeping the frame completely clear. Folding front-wheel cradles and pivoting rear-wheel trays adapt to different wheelbases, while hook-and-loop straps lock each wheel in place for a snug fit. It fits 25"–29" wheels, or 20"–24" with an adapter (sold separately), and tires up to 3.0" wide.

Quiet, Solid Ride: Tool-Free Install and Anti-Rattle Design

The hand-tightening cam system takes seconds to secure the rack—no tools needed. Turn the front knob until snug and an internal wedge expands to remove play inside the hitch. For extra stability, a locking hitch pin with an integrated Allen tool lets you fine-tune the fit. The result is a quiet ride without the wobble or rattle that can wear on long drives.

Built-In Security: Keyed-Alike Cable and Hitch Locks

The Sherpa 2.0 keeps both bikes and rack secure with included keyed-alike locks. A 6' long, 1/4" diameter cable threads through your frames and locks directly into the outer tray. The hitch lock secures the rack itself. One key handles both, so you can lock up fast and hit the trail without worrying about leaving your setup unattended.

Love love Love my new bike rack. Small amount of assembly. High quality bike rack. Easy for me to place the bikes on and lots of great features to make it that way. The color is nice too with my silver Subaru. Lightweight and user friendly.

Holds bikes securely and looks great!

Great quality, easy assembly. Etrailer was great to order from and communicated with me throughout the entire process with shipment updates and tracking. Highly recommend.

by:

I live this rack.
So easy to use and
sturdy enough that I’m not worried about my bike.
I tried 3 other racks until I got this one and it is a definite winner!!!
I Have and continue to recommend this to others.

Had this rack a year already! Still love it. I keep it on my car and never remove it. Carries our road bikes and our mountain bikes easily. Highly recommend and well worth the money.

Nice! Nothing like good ole fashion word of mouth advertising. What did you tell them to get them to buy the Sherpa? What is your favorite thing about the rack?

by:

I haven’t put it together or on my vehicle yet. But all reviews were favorable so that’s one of the reasons for picking this rack. I also got feedback from riders at my local trails and they were all positive as well. I will be installing a hitch and the rack within the next week or two. Once installed I won’t need to use the old hanging style rack or shove our bikes in the back of the wife’s SUV anymore. Once installed I’ll try and remember to post pictures as well as a better review.

by:

The biggest dislike in this is that there's too much flex/sway. I get it's allowed to move, and there's a tighter, along with bolts that surrounding the tighter. We re-tighten then and the bikes still feel like the bounce around. I think the 2" would do better, but having a prius, you're talking an extra 2 hundred on the receiver/instalation to bolt on.

At the end of the day, it holds up.
Get the 2" if you can.

by:

Good product, but when fitted to a passenger car be aware driveways and high terrain. The adjusting lever is low the ground and scrapes

by:

Works great on my '17 Toyota Sienna. I have a hybrid bike and was a bit worried that the handlebars (kind of long) would hit my rear glass when using the rack closest to the vehicle but I had about 2 inches to spare. The rack looks great and is super light.

by:

I have not used the rack yet, but several cohorts have this rack which is why I bought it.

The packaging Kuat uses is above average and well thought out to make your life easier to assemble the rack. I just opened the box and started taking things out, which is not what the instructions say, making my assembly a little more difficult. Totally my fault. That being said assembly was still relatively easy considering my disregard for the unboxing instructions. The fit system they designed to the hitch is beyond nice, the rack connection is solid.

If you buy this rack, after you open the package DO NOT remove any of the pieces, pull out the instruction sheet. I am just guessing it will make the assembly process a tad faster.

by:

Very well made. Easy to use install and work with. I do not keep this on the vehicle all the time, so the relatively light weight allows for easy on and off. Holds all of my bikes well:

Trek Emonda SLR7 disc.
Specialized CRUX
Specialized Rock Hopper Comp.

by:

Really well made, sturdy. I needed a light weight model to fit a fiat 500 that has a really low weight rating. This rack had everything I was looking for.... platform rack, could hold carbon fiber frames, nice looking and light weight, built in cable lock. Really nice rack.

by:

This is the second kuat rack I ordered. The first one I ordered from the company that starts with A and it arrived dented and the box was destroyed. I did use it to move into my new house before I returned it, though. Now that I'm getting to go on a business trip I wanted to purchase the same rack again. I did the smart thing and checked here on etrailer.com before just ordering from A like I usually do. Imagine my surprise when it was $80 cheaper. I ordered it immediately! The shipping in free, no sales tax charged. All wins there. Granted the shipping isn't 2 day like my Prime orders but most of those don't show up in 2 days anymore, either. Great hitch mount, platform bike rack. I don't like the idea of my carbon frames hanging and bouncing down the bumps on I-40.

by:

I am so glad I bought the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 hitch bike rack. It looks so good and it fits so good into my Prius. I drove with it this morning and my bike has never been so secured with the integrated locking cable and rattle free design. Assembly was also easy and it took me only thirty minutes to do it. I totally recommend this to any avid biker who is contemplating on buying a decent bike rack.

by:

Excellent bike rack with easy operation. Nice finish. etrailer sent it quickly and it arrived in excellent condition. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it appears that the part that connects to the hitch is the older model; however, the rest of the rack is the upgraded version. We do have the upgraded release latch. Also I should note that I got it for about $70 cheaper than the suggested price of $489. The anti-rattle knob and part that connects to the hitch is exactly like the one in the older version and the bolt didn't exactly line up to put it the part on that connects that part to the upper part of the new version. We just tapped it into place and it went fine. The anti-rattle knob is a tiny bit harder to reach but it appears to do its job. I am easily able to open my hatch door with plenty of room when I tilt the rack down and it is very easy for me to tile by myself being a weak female. Overall, I am happy and could have given it 4.5 but there is no option to do that.

by:

TLDR: Awesome. Easy. Secure at 80 mph.

I
have really enjoyed this Kuat rack over the past year. Installation was straightforward (just crank down on that tightening bolt through the hitch!), and I can move the rack on and off the car without too much effort. The rack weighs around ~30 lbs if I recall correctly. This rack keeps my bike safe with no problem going 80 mph down I-10 across west texas or over subpar roads in town. It takes seconds to load and unload the bikes. No fidgeting for 10 minutes to secure the bike. No ratchets to come loose and drop your bike on the road behind you, which I recently saw. :/ Just quickly load up your bike(s) and go. And yes, it can all be operated one-handed while holding a bike or a bag. The tilt down mechanism is great when bikes are loaded on the rack, and I need to access my hatchback area. Otherwise, I can open the hatchback on my Prius without a problem when the rack is folded up. Prius side note: I had a 1-1/4 hitch installed for this rack. Love it!

I really appreciate etrailer's videos and pricing. Thanks!

I’ve had the Kuat Sherpa for about a year now and could not be more happy with this bike rack. When not in use I keep it safely in the garage- it only takes a few minutes to install it to my Honda Civic and safely secure two bikes using its exquisitely engineered and designed system. I’ve used this for 900+ mile trips with no issues whatsoever - the perfect bike rack!

The Kuat Sherpa continues to perform flawlessly. I’m always amazed how quick and easy it is to attach the rack to the receiver and load a couple of bikes, and there are no signs of wear or deterioration.

This Kuat rack is AWESOME!!! When I first got it I thought I was not installing it correctly, that I was missing steps. Nope. The rack is just incredibly well designed and easy to use. Bike on! Easy. Bike off! Easy. Rack on! Easy. Rack off! Easy. It's always three steps 1-2-3 done. I especially like the feature to tilt the rack down to access our hatchback even when the rack is loaded. Beautiful. We are super pleased with this rack.

One year later: all the positives are still positive. No negatives. This is a great rack. Its really doing the job for us.

by:

I waited until after my recent 2000 mile trip to provide a review of this rack. Simply put...it works great. Tightens securely into the hitch and remained that way until I loosened it 2000 miles later. Easy to load bikes onto the rack, and as simple as the holding arms are, they hold securely with no worry and stay in place until you physically move them. And the rack is light enough for a single person (I'm 66 years old) to install and remove. If you're looking for a lightweight and secure rack, I highly recommend this one.

I absolutely love my Kuat bike rack. I love the security lock for both the rack and bike and love the tilt to allow access to my car SUVs rear storage area.
I utilize a strap to further steady my bike and am very happy with how steady the bike rides.
I take the bike off after every ride and reinstall it for the next ride. It only takes a few minutes to do this and allows me to know my Kuat is safe inside my home.

My Kuat is still perfect for me. I ride in a very large club and often get inquiries on the rack. I purchased and installed a hitch for our hybridelectric car so LI can use it to save gas.

Just bought a Sherpa 2.0 for my Acura RDX. I had an old swing-away bike rack for my Land Rover which would not work with the 1-1/4" hitch receiver on the RDX.
The rack was delivered in less than a week with free shipping and it was pretty straightforward to set up. I did need a second person to help with with connecting and installing the long screws that bolt the platform to the base, it just made it easier. I read that quite a few people have problems with installing the smaller bolt and I was no exception.
I've only taken the bike rack for a quick drive with both my bikes on it and everything looks good. So far, I'm very happy with this product, it fits the hitch receiver nicely, no rattles and it is super easy to get the bikes on and off the rack.

A year in I am super happy with the Sherpa 2.0 bike rack. It is easy to load and secure to the hitch receiver and super easy to load and secure two bikes on it. Folding and unfolding the rack to allow openingclosing of the rear gate on the RDX is also a breeze and the fact you can tilt the rack with the bikes on it to allow access to the cargo area is just fantastic. I highly recommend this bike rack, it is the very best Ive owned.

by:

etrailer was prompt to answer my questions regarding whether this rack would work with my Chevy Volt. Best price out there, quick delivery, easy assembly and installation. Love this rack! And I am on my way cycling!

by:

After doing extensive research before buying my first ever bike rack, I chose the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 platform rack. I considered trunk mounted, hanging and platform racks before settling on a platform rack. I like the stability, the ease of loading and unloading and very importantly, the absence of contact with the frame of my bike. My bike has a beautiful paint job that I want to preserve. I looked at lots of racks online and at a bike shop and opted for the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 because of the excellent engineering, including the design of the packaging that becomes a work bench for assembling the rack, the relatively light weight (32 pounds), the inclusion of a hitch lock and a bike lock, the stability of the platform, even with a 1.25" connection and a class I hitch, and the ease of operation. Additionally, the overall appearance of the rack suggests high quality. Time will tell how well it ages but I'm pretty confident that I'll be pleased with it. I was very fortunate to find a used, like new Kuat via Etrailer at a meaningful discount that still qualified for the manufacturer's warranty! Thank you Etrailer! A tip to pass along that was shared with me, U-Haul is an excellent source for buying and installing hitches to accommodate bike racks - very attractive pricing, high quality installation and a super unlimited lifetime warranty. Can't wait for Spring and the chance to transport my bike to inviting riding venues!! PS The hitch and bike rack work very well with my 2011 Honda Accord Coupe, EXL V6 model that remains in excellent condition.

Its been a year since I purchased the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 platform bike rack, and I still feel the same way about it when I wrote the original review. I havent been a heavy user to this point, so I dont have evidence of long-term reliability, but I think it will continue to serve me well. I did take the rack, loaded with my hybrid bike, for a 1,000-mile trip and had no issues with it. I confess to looking in my review mirror frequently to assure myself that the bike was still there : Its great knowing that if an opportunity arises for a bike ride that I cant comfortably pedal to arrives, all I have to do is quickly install the rack on my car, load my bike, and away I go!!

@Chester Hello Chester, thank you for the detailed review. Sounds like this bike rack has your back – no ifs, ands, or spokes about it! I am also the type of person that would look in my mirror to keep checking as well =) I am happy to hear that a year later you are still pleased with your purchase. Where did you go on the that 1,000 mile trip?

I have been in search of a really good hitch mounted bike rack for some time. I did a lot of research and settled on the Kuat Sherpa 2.0. But before I ordered it, I called etrailer.com. I spoke with Lori B. who answered all my questions about this rack and made my shopping experience quick and informative. This rack is so well constructed and beautifully finished, rugged and very easy to use. On our first trip out, my 12 year old son was able to quickly and easily remove his bike with no help. The rack tilts down with little effort making access to the back of our station wagon a breeze. I would recommend this rack to anyone looking for a well built easy to use 2 bike rack.

My neighbor told me about etrailer.com and it was great advice. I will be ordering from etrailer.com again. Their service and selection are amazing and they actually have people answering the phone who know their products.

However, if you need two or there isn't one included with the rack you have to contact Kuat and they will send you one or two for free. I have linked a screenshot I took from the instruction page below. We have a couple of options for colors and different hitch sizes as well. I have listed them below. 2" hitch Gray...

  • Best Hitch for Bike Rack & Trailer Towing with 2018 Honda CR-V
A 2-inch Class III hitch is the better option for your 2018 Honda CR-V both for using you hitch bike rack and for towing. Class III hitches like Draw-Tite # 76128 typically have higher weight capacities than the smaller Class II hitches like # 36597 and this makes them the better choice both for accessories like bike racks and for towing trailers too. Draw-Tite model # 76128 offers a combination of high capacity and easy installation, which makes it the one I recommend. You can see the...

  • Lock Recommendation for a Kuat Sherpa Bike Rack
The Kuat Sherpa bike rack part # SH12G that you referenced comes with a locking hitch pin as well as an anti-rattle device built into the rack. The replacement part would be the Kuat Hitch Pin Lock part # HL1. Check out the review video I attached for this rack that details how the anti-rattle device works.

  • Trailer Hitch Receiver For Carrying a Bike Rack With a 2021 Lexus IS 350 F-Sport
Currently the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11389 and Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24923 are the only receivers we have confirmed to fit your 2021 Lexus IS 350 F-Sport. There is not a hidden style receiver available for your Lexus. I do prefer the Draw-Tite over the Curt as it does not require the use of a Stabilizing Strap # 18050 when using a bike rack. For a bike rack I recommend the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Bike Rack # SH12G. This lightweight aluminum rack only weighs 32lbs...

  • Recommended Hitch To Install A Bike Rack On A 2012 Honda Accord Sedan
The hitches we have available for your 2012 Honda Accord EX-L Sedan will all involve trimming of the heat shield and underbody panel. The instructions for the Curt # C11085 do explain what will need to be done in detail and I included an install video that will also show what needs to be done. With that being said, the # C11085 will be my recommendation as this is an American made hitch and will handle your Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Bike Rack, like the # SH12G, without any issue at all.

  • Will the Front Wheel Hook on the Kuat Sherpa Interfere With the Front Brake Caliper
If your bike has the front brake caliper in front of the bike frame, then the arm of the Kuat Sherpa 2.0, # SH12G, and other platform style racks will be placed directly in front of the caliper. The arm should not be touching the caliper. If the arm is touching the brake caliper, then it needs to be moved forward, away from the caliper until it is no longer touching. I have attached an installation video of our installer explaining where to place the front arm. I have also attached two...

  • Correct Hitch Lock for Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Using 1-1/4 Inch to 2 Inch Adapter
The correct hitch lock for your Kuat Sherpa 2.0 2-Bike Platform Rack - 1-1/4" Hitches # SH12G (Gray), # SH12P (Pearl), or # SH12B (Black) using the Kuat Bike Rack Shank Adapter - 1-1/4" to 2" # D101 is the Hitch Lock for Kuat Bike Racks - 2" Hitches # HL2. The only difference between this part and the one you referenced is that H101-004 has a specific code, 004. The reason for this is simply a change in part numbers, and a specific code will not be able to be ordered.

  • Dimensions of Kuat Sherpa 2.0 When Folded
The Kuat Sherpa 2.0 # SH12G will be the same 42-1/4 inch width whether or not it is folded; as for the length it will measure 17-1/8 inches from the the center of the hitch pin hole to the furthest part of the carrier and will measure 24-7/8 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the highest point. This bike rack is a fit for 1-1/4 inch trailer hitches and has a 40 lb per bike capacity. It weighs just 32 lbs to make handling it an easy task; has keyed-alike hitch and cable locks...

  • Kuat Sherpa Recommendation to Fit 2 inch and 1-1/4 inch Hitch Size
Since you have a 2 inch hitch and a 1-1/4 inch hitch to fit the Kuat Sherpa the best option is the part # SH12G which is for the 1-1/4 inch hitch and then use the adapter part # D101 to convert it to a 2 inch hitch when needed. I attached a review video for the bike rack for you to check out as well.
