Question:

I have a 2018 Subaru Outback with a u-haul 2” receiver. I attached the adapter that came with the rack and it won’t fit because of the little metal ball. I’ve probably done something wrong but what?

The Kuat Bike Rack Shank Adapter - 1-1/4" to 2" # D101 will work with most Kuat Bike racks but will not work with the first generation Kuat NV bike racks. So that most likely isn't the issue.

When you mention the metal ball not allowing a fit it means you need to turn the knob counter clockwise to loosen the hitch cam. This will allow for the installation and once the hitch pin is in place, you will turn that same knob to tighten the hitch cam in the receiver to engage the anti-rattle feature for a snug fit.
