Video Transcript for All About the Hitch Reducer 2" to 1-1/4" Trailer Hitch Receiver

Today I will be taking a quick look at the Brophy Hitch Reducer from a two inch to an inch and a quarter. This is part number HT02. We'll go ahead and show you how it performs. Here at the back of our ATV, our ATV does have a two inch hitch, which is installed on the back of our chassis. The adapter sleeve is going to work really well, because it allows us to install and inch and a quarter accessory onto our ATV. You can see that it has two pinholes here in the sleeve and that's going to allow us to actually slide it into the shank of our two inch hitch. Our hitch reducer does come with a half inch hitch pin, which is going to be used to install the sleeve to our two inch hitch. This is a great way to install an inch and a quarter accessory.

For example, if you have a two inch receiver installed on your ATV, but you have other inch and a quarter accessories, this little adapter sleeve is a great way to just slide it into your hitch instead of having to switch out receivers. You can see it is coated in a black powder coat finish that is going to help resist rust and corrosion. Now we have this other pin which is a standard 5/8 inch pin and clip that are sold separately. That's going to install your two inch accessories. For example, there is one pin that does come with this and that pin is usually designed to secure the sleeve to the receiver so that you will need an anti-rattle device or some sort of hitch pin and clip to secure your accessory. Now you can see that we have our inch and a quarter accessory, we're going to slide the shank into the tapered end of our sleeve. Now you can see that it's going to have a smaller diameter on one side of the sleeve and it's going to have a regular two inch diameter on the other side.

We'll slide this in and basically just line up the hitch pin hole with our accessory and the hitch pin hole with our adapter sleeve. Now that we have our accessory installed, we'll go ahead and show you how it performs. Now to complete today's review of the Brophy Hitch Reducer from a two inch hitch to an inch and a quarter, part number HT02. .

Fit is loose in the vehicle receiver. Suggest a few wraps of duct tape to secure. Bicycles ride smoother when tight.

Holes were well placed to allow good fit for all planned attachments. Fit well with little wiggle, even without wobble eliminators installed.

  • How to Carry Yakima HoldUp with 2 Inch Shank Using a 1-1/4 Inch Hitch Receiver
Hello, The adapter 8890174 (discontinued) that you referenced is specifically designed to fit the Yakima Flipside, DoubleDown and StickUp Bike Carriers. If you can send me a picture of your bike rack I can confirm if it is one of these or if we have an adapter that will work for your application.

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13144 which is a confirmed fit for your 2017 Subaru Forester will work with a bike rack that has a 1-1/4" shank but you will need to use a reducer like part # HT02. Most bike racks come with an adapter to use a 1-1/4" shank inside a 2" trailer hitch so if you can tell me what bike rack you have I would be glad to see if we have one for you. The bike rack specific adapter will have less movement than the part # HT02 but it will still work for you regardless. You...

The 2 inch Thule hitch adapter # 853-7292 does not fit every bike rack they make unfortunately and it does not fit any version of the Thule T2 bike racks. Since you don't want to replace the shank (understandable) the best work around is the hitch reducer sleeve part # HT02.

  • Recommended Hitch Adapter w/ Rise for a 1-1/4" Hitch
Hey Doug! The closest thing we have to what you're asking for is the 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Adapter item # e93YR. This has a 5" rise and most likely won't work for your Camry for the same reason what you're asking for doesn't exist in a 1-1/4" to 1-1/4" size. Any and all hitch adapters and extenders reduce the hitches tongue weight and towing capacity by 50%. A Toyota Camry's hitch like item # C12107 only has a 350 lbs capacity. Adding this adapter fixes the dragging problem but now...

Hey there Rick, there is a way to use your 1-1/4" Kuat Sherpa 2.0 # SH12G with the 2" receiver that comes with the Stealth Hitches Hidden Rack Receiver # SH47FR. What you would need to do is simply use an adapter, the Hitch Reducer 2" to 1-1/4" # HT02. This will go in the 2" receiver and essentially turn it into a 1-1/4" receiver. It comes with a 1-1/4" pin and clip, though you won't be using that for your Sherpa so you can disregard it. The only thing you would need is something to secure...

  • How to Get a Thule T2 for 1-1/4 Inch Hitches to Fit a 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver
I do have a solution for you but adapter # 853-7489 does not fit the T2 TH9045. What you can use (and what is basically the same thing only it doesn't attach to the bike carrier) is a reducer sleeve, # HT02. Pin the reducer into the hitch receiver and then you can place the 1-1/4 inch shank from the T2 in and you'd be good to go.

  • Can Yakima Dr.Tray for 1-1/4" Hitch Fit 2" Hitch
Hi Kyle; I see what you're saying with an adapter. Although the mechanism to tighten it would keep it secure in some hitch reducers the only thing holding the bike rack and the adapter into the 2" receiver on your vehicle would be that safety pin which really isn't secure. However, a reducer like the # HT02 has two different hitch pin holes. The 20x47 Reese Cargo Carrier part # 63155 has a fixed shank so there won't be any reason that you couldn't use it on the rear of your travel trailer. I do not know what Swagman bike rack you have, but the adapter sleeves for bike rack shanks are typically pretty specific to certain bike rack models. Your best option is going to use a hitch reducer, instead of a bike rack adapter. The best option for that is the Hitch Reducer 2" to 1-1/4" Trailer Hitch Receiver # HT02. No, we do not. The only affordable way to use the 1-1/4" Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack item # TH23JV in a 2" receiver is to use a reducer like the the Brophy item # HT02.
