Video Transcript for Brophy Hitch Reducer Trailer Hitch Receiver Review

Today I will be taking a quick look at the Brophy Hitch Reducer from a two inch to an inch and a quarter. This is part number HT02. We'll go ahead and show you how it performs. Here at the back of our ATV, our ATV does have a two inch hitch, which is installed on the back of our chassis. The adapter sleeve is going to work really well, because it allows us to install and inch and a quarter accessory onto our ATV. You can see that it has two pinholes here in the sleeve and that's going to allow us to actually slide it into the shank of our two inch hitch. Our hitch reducer does come with a half inch hitch pin, which is going to be used to install the sleeve to our two inch hitch. This is a great way to install an inch and a quarter accessory.

For example, if you have a two inch receiver installed on your ATV, but you have other inch and a quarter accessories, this little adapter sleeve is a great way to just slide it into your hitch instead of having to switch out receivers. You can see it is coated in a black powder coat finish that is going to help resist rust and corrosion. Now we have this other pin which is a standard 5/8 inch pin and clip that are sold separately. That's going to install your two inch accessories. For example, there is one pin that does come with this and that pin is usually designed to secure the sleeve to the receiver so that you will need an anti-rattle device or some sort of hitch pin and clip to secure your accessory. Now you can see that we have our inch and a quarter accessory, we're going to slide the shank into the tapered end of our sleeve. Now you can see that it's going to have a smaller diameter on one side of the sleeve and it's going to have a regular two inch diameter on the other side.

We'll slide this in and basically just line up the hitch pin hole with our accessory and the hitch pin hole with our adapter sleeve. Now that we have our accessory installed, we'll go ahead and show you how it performs. Now to complete today's review of the Brophy Hitch Reducer from a two inch hitch to an inch and a quarter, part number HT02. .

It's heavy-duty, sure enough. Plenty stout for a 1 1/4 bike rack. However, I've noticed other posts citing the 2" adapter as just a bit small. My hitch is a brand new CURT #13200, so it isn't because of a worn receiver - your product is the first thing in it. If it were small in just one dimension it wouldn't rock side-to-side so badly, but it's small in both height and width by about a sixteenth or so. Just enough for a shim both top (or bottom) and side. That's annoying. The good news is, the 1 1/4 bike rack fits just fine, especially since my Hollywood rack uses a threaded bolt to anchor it in place. The 1/2" hitch pin you supply is redundant. The larger size would have been useful, the one you sent is not. Whatever 1 1/4 item we're adapting to either already comes with a 1/2" pin or your customer was already using one in the first place. Complaints aside, THIS is the ONLY 1 1/4 adapter on the market that works. My other choice is to have one fabricated. About the same cost, and this is a time saver. 377202

Product is solid, easy to connect just as advertised. Delivery was fast and good notification as it progressed. My bike rack came with an anti-wobble bolt that tightens it to the receiver. Without it, this unit would wobble using just the pin that came with this product. But they all seem to have this problem to some degree. 386258

I was actually surprised to find this. My local hardware stores and farm stores didn't have a hitch reducer. One guy told me he thought that they didn't make them. I received this one in good condition and without delay. 147337

Very satisfied, easy ordering online with fast delivery. This adapter installs in a few seconds with no tools required. It is a little lose fitting but can be removed just as easily as installing. Wish it came with a 5/8 pin as i already have the smaller one. 85357

  • Recommended Hitch Reducer to Reduce 2 inch Receiver Opening to 1-1/4 Inches
For a hitch reducer that will reduce your 2 inch trailer hitch receiver to 1-1/4 inches, I recommend the Brophy Hitch Reducer # HT02. The great thing about this product is that because of its design, it will not reduce the tongue weight capacity of your hitch like other adapters will. Once installed, you will be able to use your 1-1/4 inch hitch accessories with your 2 inch trailer hitch. I have attached a video demonstration of this product for you to check out.

  • Will Hitch Lock from SportRack Evader Fit the Brophy Hitch Reducer and Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch
The hitch lock for the SportRack Evader Bike Rack, # A30404XT, will work with the Brophy Hitch Reducer, # HT02, and the Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch, # 75673. I pulled these parts and assembled them together for you (see photos). The SportRack Evader bike rack comes with a 2 inch adapter. You should not need the Brophy hitch reducer. If you lost the 2 inch sleeve for this bike rack, then I recommend purchasing a replacement sleeve, # 05001300000, rather that using a separate hitch...

  • Adapter Availability to Install a 1-1/4 inch Hitch Bike Rack in a 2 inch Hitch
Depending on the bike rack and how it is designed to attach to the trailer hitch you could use the part # HT02 as it is the most universal option we have. This is basically a sleeve that will fit the 2 inch hitch and turn it into a 1-1/4 inch hitch. If your rack uses a standard hitch pin or a threaded hitch pin this should work well for you, but if it uses a different style of attachment like a tightening knob that pins the rack into the hitch this probably wouldn't work well.

  • Hitch Adapter Recommendation to Convert 1-1/4 in Hitch to 2 inch Hitch
The Hitch Adapter part # HT02 that you referenced is actually designed to go the opposite direction you would need. It is designed to fit 2 inch hitches and reduce them down to 1-1/4 inch hitches. Instead you would want the # HTAD. This product will take your 1-1/4 inch hitch and allow a 2 inch hitch accessory to be used. This will cut your hitch tongue weight capacity in half though as that is the nature of these adapters. I attached an FAQ article on them for you to check out as well.

  • What Adapter is Needed to Carry Thule T2 Classic Bike Rack on 2012 Toyota Tacoma 2 Inch Receiver
In order to carry your Thule T2 Classic Platform # TH9045 on your 2012 Toyota Tacoma with a 2 inch receiver opening the Brophy Hitch Reducer # HT02 will do the trick. With this reducer, you can, like you want, put the adapter in the receiver and insert the pin for the 2 inch receiver to hold the adapter in place and leave it like that. When you want to use your T2 bike rack, you simply insert your bike rack shank into the adapter and use the snug tight pin in the designated hole.

  • Recommended Adapter to Reduce 2 Inch Trailer Hitch to 1-1/4 Inch Receiver
To reduce the receiver opening on your trailer hitch from 2 inches to 1-1/4 inches, I recommend the Brophy Hitch Reducer # HT02. This will simply insert into the hitch receiver on your vehicle to provide a smaller opening for 1-1/4 inch hitch mounted accessories. The great thing about this particular unit is that unlike similar adapters, the sleeve design does not reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch. If you want a device to be used through the other end of the reducer with the accessory that is connected then the Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 1-1/4 Inch Hitches # 63147 is what you'll need. • Recommendation for Reducer Sleeve to Adapt 2 Inch Hitch Receiver to 1-1/4 Inch Receiver
To reduce your 2007 Toyota Tacoma's factory 2 inch trailer hitch to a 1-1/4 inch receiver, I recommend using the Brophy Hitch Reducer 2 Inch to 1-1/4 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver # HT02. This reducer sleeve will allow you to use your 1-1/4 inch shank bike rack without compromising any of your hitch's capacity. This sleeve includes a 1/2 inch pin and clip for the 1-1/4 inch adapter, but will require a 5/8 inch hitch pin, such as # PC3, to secure the reducer in the Tacoma's receiver. I've...

  • Recommended Hitch Reducer and Lock for Thule Bike Rack
Starting with the hitch adapter for the 2 inch hitch receiver on your vehicle, I actually recommend going with the Brophy Hitch Reducer # HT02 instead of the Tow Ready # 80300 that you referenced. The reason for this is that the Tow Ready adapter, when in use, is going to reduce the tongue weight capacity of your trailer hitch by 50%. Depending on the weight of your bike rack and bikes, this option may result in you overloading the capacity of the trailer hitch. For example, if the hitch...

To use your existing Thule Parkway bike rack in a 2 inch hitch, rather than replacing the shank assembly of your rack, I'd recommend using a reducer sleeve like part # HT02. The sleeve would be installed into your existing 2 inch receiver, and the bike rack installed into the sleeve. You can secure the bike rack to the sleeve by using the hitch bolt that came with the rack.

You can't use a weight distribution system on a vehicle that has a 1-1/4 inch hitch. Adapters do not allow this to happen either as they typically lower capacity of the hitch. Since the trailer you plan to tow is below the weight capacity of the vehicle you'd just need to tow it with a standard ball mount. A better option would be suspension enhancement for your 2011 Ford Escape like the Timbren kit part # TFRESC which will reduce the sag you have in the rear suspension when towing.
