Question:
I have a Kuat NV bike rack with a 1.25 receiver end. Ive been looking for a 2 to 1.25 adapter so I can mount this rack to my new car jeep which has 2 adapter. I absolutely do not want any slack in this, so I want the cam system to remain usable. It appears the D101 will NOT work with the original NV, even though when I compare a picture of my NV shank to an NV 2.0 shank, I cant see a difference cam ball is in same place, hole seems to be in same place. What is the technical reason that the D101 adapter will not work with the Kuat NV? I asked the question last week, but just got an answer saying it wont work. Is there another adapter that will work, while utilizing the Kuats cam system so my bike stays solid on multiple hour drives from CO to UT to BC! Thanks in advance. Ive attached a pic of my Kuat 1.25 end for reference. How does the D101 adapter attach to the shank why will it not attach to the shank on my kuat NV? Cant seem to find a reason anywhere...

The technical reason that the Kuat Adapter Sleeve, part # D101 will not work with the Kuat NV 1.0 is that the end of the shank on the Kuat NV 1.0 doesn't have an additional length for this adapter to attach correctly, and allow for the cam ball to operate, plus leave the hitch pin hole open. I've included a picture of the adapter installed on a Kuat Beta, part # B202-114 to help illustrate the difference in the rack's structure. I've also included a picture of the Beta's shank without the sleeve installed.
Your best bet for using the NV 1.0 in a 2 inch hitch is the Brophy 2 inch to 1-1/4 inch hitch reducer, part # HT02 combined with an anti-rattle solution like an anti-rattle lock like part # PS63100 to secure and stabilize the hitch reducer.
