Stacked-plate heat exchangers have long been considered the most effective type of oil or transmission cooler, primarily because of their increased surface area. Allowing fluid to spread out over this larger surface area decreases the time required for heat transfer to take place. As a result, plate coolers typically manage to cool a greater volume of fluid faster than tube-and-fin, or even plate-and-fin, varieties.

I just received the Derale D13403 transmission oil cooler and the Firestone Ride-Rite air suspension system for my truck. I have not installed them yet but my experience with the ordering process was excellent. I placed my order on a Saturday afternoon and received confirmation of shipment later the same day. Everything was packaged very well and free delivery was quick. I have ordered from etrailer before and will continue to use them as my needs arise..

This transmission cooler is a true game changer. We are now able to climb steep grades without overheating the transmission. Installation was fairly straightforward, and it fit in the same location as the original cooler. We have traveled over 4500 miles since installation and are very happy with its performance.

  • Does A Supplemental Transmission Cooler Replace The Factory Transmission Cooler
When adding a supplemental transmission cooler like the Derale 19-Row Stacked-Plate Transmission Cooler Kit, -6 AN Inlets - Class V Item # D13403 it does not replace the factory cooler. It works in conjunction with your factory cooler and is designed to assist your factory cooler in the cooling process when towing.

  • Can a Transmission Cooler be Installed Vertically Instead of Horizontally
Yes, the core in Derale transmission cooler # D13403 can be mounted so that the lines enter and exit from the side rather than the top. There is enough pressure in the lines to push the fluid through no matter how you choose to mount it! I have linked the installation instructions for you.

  • Are The Derale Transmission Coolers Considered Low Pressure/LPD Coolers?
No, the Derale # D13403 is not considered a low pressure transmission cooler. All Derale Coolers are rated at 250 PSI and 300 PSI burst strength. The only Low pressure coolers I have heard of are the Tru-Cool brand and unfortunately we do not carry them here at etrailer.

We can definitely help. Since you are looking for a transmission cooler to replace what you have on your 2005 Acura MDX you would want to go with as large of a cooler as you can fit in the most efficient cooler style. Stacked plate coolers are by far the best efficient style. The part # D13403 would be a great option. It measures 13" Wide x 7-5/16" tall x 2" deep and comes with an install kit. You would just need to route your transmission lines from your old cooler to this one and you...

  • Recommended Transmission Cooler for Street/Strip Car
As a general rule when looking at transmission coolers, especially when comparing stacked plate coolers, which represent the most efficient coolers available, you will simply want to try and find the biggest cooler that will still fit between the grille and radiator of your vehicle. The Derale 19-Row Stacked-Plate Transmission Cooler Kit # D13403 referenced in your question is 13 inches wide x 7-5/16 inches tall x 2 inches deep. • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 4x4
The Derale transmission cooler part # D13403 that you referenced is a stacked plate cooler (the most efficient style) that would do a great job keeping the transmission fluid of your 2004 Chevy Silverado cooler. You'd want to route the fluid from the factory cooler, to the Derale cooler, and then back to the truck's transmission to get the optimum cooling power.

  • Do Transmission Coolers Have to Install Right Side Up Or Can they be Upside Down
The Derale stacked plate transmission coolers like part # D13403 can be mounted in any orientation that you need including having the hose fittings down. The line pressure from the transmission will push all of the fluid through the cooler regardless of how it is mounted. My recommendation on mounting this transmission cooler is finding a location that maximizes air flow through the cooler. Ideally, this would be in front of the radiator or AC condenser. Either fitting style would work...

We don't have the stacked plate coolers in our transmission fitguide which is a bit confusing, but you can use one and it would be a great option. The Derale 19-Row Stacked Plate Transmission Cooler Kit # D13403 measures 13 inches wide x 7-5/16 inches tall x 2 inches deep. As long as this cooler fits behind the grille in front of the radiator, it will work well for you. It is rated a Class V to work with heavy-duty towing vehicles. • How to Route Supplemental Transmission Cooler with Factory Cooler on Chevy Silverado
The ideal setup is to run the fluid from the factory cooler, to the supplemental cooler, and then back to the transmission. This will keep the fluid as cool as possible. If you are worried about it being too cold like in the winter you would need to just let the truck idle to warm it up and then you will be good to go. Or the ideal solution is to use a thermostatic bypass that allows the cooler to be bypassed till the fluid reaches 180 degrees. For that you would need # D15719. Running...
