Stacked-plate heat exchangers have long been considered the most effective type of oil or transmission cooler, primarily because of their increased surface area. Allowing fluid to spread out over this larger surface area decreases the time required for heat transfer to take place. As a result, plate coolers typically manage to cool a greater volume of fluid faster than tube-and-fin, or even plate-and-fin, varieties.

I just received the Derale D13403 transmission oil cooler and the Firestone Ride-Rite air suspension system for my truck. I have not installed them yet but my experience with the ordering process was excellent. I placed my order on a Saturday afternoon and received confirmation of shipment later the same day. Everything was packaged very well and free delivery was quick. I have ordered from etrailer before and will continue to use them as my needs arise.. 114547

Do you have a question about this Transmission Cooler?

  • Recommended Supplemental Transmission Cooler for 2011 Chevy Tahoe with Factory Cooler
  • Adding a supplemental cooler to your factory transmission cooler is what is recommended in most cases because the factory cooler is most likely working fine and adding a secondary cooler in line will just assist in the cooling already taking place. I recommend the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/Barb Inlets # D13503 for a good option, but the # D13403 is an even better and more efficient option. For either installation, you will want the Derale Snap-In Radiator...

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500 with 5.3 Liter
  • The general rule is to keep the transmission fluid at or below 200 degrees Fahrenheit. When towing, especially in the mountains and in summer time, the transmission fluid temperature can increase much higher so adding a supplemental cooler is a good idea. A supplemental cooler can decrease the temperature significantly due to more airflow to the fluid and more capacity (fluid) in the system. The most popular cooler for your 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500 is # D13503. But if it were me...

  • Recommended Transmission Cooler for a 2006 Ford Expedition While Towing Through Mountains
  • For a heavy duty transmission cooler, I recommend the Derale Series 10000 Stacked-Plate Transmission Cooler Kit part # D13403 which as the name states has a stacked-plate design which is currently the most effective type in regards to a transmission cooler. This essentially means that you can install a cooler with less surface area and still receive greater cooling power like when compared to the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit part # D13504 for example. If you...

  • Best Transmission Cooler For 2019 Honda Odyssey
  • The most efficient transmission cooler option for your 2019 Honda Odyssey is the largest transmission cooler that you can get to fit in front of the radiator. The second best placement is between the AC condenser and the radiator that allows for moderate air flow. The efficiency of a transmission cooler is based mostly off it's size and placement. I recommend Derale 19-Row Stacked-Plate Transmission Cooler Kit part # D13403 that measures 13" wide x 7-5/16" tall x 2" deep. The stacked-plate...

  • Recommended Transmission Cooler for a 2015 Mazda CX9
  • The best standard mount transmission cooler for your 2015 Mazda CX9 is the largest one you have space available for in front of your radiator behind your grill. I recommend using the Derale 19-Row Stacked-Plate Transmission Cooler Kit part # D13403 as this is a fairly large standard mount transmission cooler that features a plate and fin technology which is far superior to the industry standard tube and fin design. As long as you have 13" wide x 7-5/16" tall x 2" deep of space in front...

  • Measuring Temperature of Transmission Fluid After Installing Aftermarket Cooler on 2011 Silverado
  • I spoke with my contact at Derale about the lack of change in temperature you noticed on your 2011 Chevrolet Silverado. He confirmed that the factory transmission temperature sensor is located inside the transmission, where the fluid is the hottest. He said the effects of the aftermarket transmission cooler are not typically seen with the factory sensor, since the fluid quickly heats back up once inside the transmission. My contact at Derale also said that it is common to not notice a temperature...

  • Can the Factory Transmission Cooler be Bypassed on a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder
  • In order to avoid the engine coolant leaking into the transmission lines you would have to bypass the factory cooler, which is located in the radiator, on your 2007 Nissan Pathfinder. Just adding a supplemental cooler without bypassing the factory cooler will not reduce the chance of the radiator leaking coolant into the transmission lines. To bypass the factory cooler you would need to remove the transmission lines going to and from the radiator, plug those holes up, and run the lines...

  • Transmission Cooler for a 2009 Ford Expedition
  • Transmission coolers such as # D13503 are not vehicle specific so you can install or have one installed that fits the space you have available in the engine compartment. If it were me though I would go with a stacked plate cooler, # D13403, because they are the most efficient and offer the most cooling. With that said check to see if your transmission system is a closed system. If it is then there will be no dipstick to check the transmission fluid. Instead there will be a cap over...

  • For the 4L80E transmission that is in your 2002 Chevy 2500HD Silverado we have supplemental transmission coolers that would work great in conjunction with the factory cooler or as a stand alone cooler if you are looking to bypass the factory cooler. The best option I could recommend for you would be a stacked plate style cooler like the part # D13403. This is the most efficient style of transmission cooler on the market that would work great for you. You would want to install the cooler...

  • How to Route Supplemental Transmission Cooler with Factory Cooler on Chevy Silverado
  • The ideal setup is to run the fluid from the factory cooler, to the supplemental cooler, and then back to the transmission. This will keep the fluid as cool as possible. If you are worried about it being too cold like in the winter you would need to just let the truck idle to warm it up and then you will be good to go. Or the ideal solution is to use a thermostatic bypass that allows the cooler to be bypassed till the fluid reaches 180 degrees. For that you would need # D15719. Running...

  • Transmission Cooler for a GM K3500 Pickup Truck with a 6.5 Liter Diesel
  • We generally recommend going with the largest cooler that will fit in the space available in the engine compartment. The Most popular cooler for the K series with the 6.5 liter is # D13503 that you have referenced. It measures 11 inches wide, 8-3/4 inches tall, and 7/8 inches deep. You can get more cooling efficiency using a stacked plate cooler. I would go with # D13403. Even though it is smaller the stacked plate design is more efficient so it is rated higher than the plate fin coolers. You...

You will also want to use the Derale Snap-In Radiator Adapter Fitting for GM # D13035, so you do not need to flare lines for installation. A stacked plate cooler is going to be the most efficient. For a stacked plate that is very efficient and rated as a Class V I recommend # D13403. • Transmission Cooler and Oil Cooler Option for 2012 Chevy Avalanche
  • Derale Transmission Coolers don't offer the bypass feature, but they do offer a bypass oil filter sandwich adapter for their oil coolers. The sandwich adapter has an internal thermostat that allows the oil to bypass the cooler when it reaches temperatures below 180 degrees. They do indeed offer highly efficient stacked-plate heat exchangers suitable for oil or transmission fluid cooling. For a stacked-plate transmission cooler, I'd recommend part # D13403. You'd also need the # D13035...

Some stock 454's aren't crazy powerful, whereas others like the LS6 are very powerful. With that being said I would go with the absolute biggest cooler you can fit.
