Can the Factory Transmission Cooler be Bypassed on a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Updated 08/24/2016 | Published 08/23/2016

Question:

Have 2007 Nissan Pathfinder SE V6 auto with Tow Pkg. There are widely reported issues of coolant leaking into the transmission on this and other model years with the V6 auto engine. Was wondering if the transmission cooler that comes with the tow pkg acts to reduce or eliminate the danger of this happening? Thx!

In order to avoid the engine coolant leaking into the transmission lines you would have to bypass the factory cooler, which is located in the radiator, on your 2007 Nissan Pathfinder. Just adding a supplemental cooler without bypassing the factory cooler will not reduce the chance of the radiator leaking coolant into the transmission lines.

To bypass the factory cooler you would need to remove the transmission lines going to and from the radiator, plug those holes up, and run the lines to a supplemental cooler.

In this situation we recommend the most efficient cooler that you can get. The most efficient cooler that doesn't have its own fan is going to be a stacked plate cooler, # D13403. Otherwise I recommend going with one that has its own fan such as # D15900 so it can provide the optimum cooling no matter where it is installed.
