Stacked-plate heat exchangers have long been considered the most effective type of oil or transmission coolers, primarily because of their increased surface area. Allowing fluid to spread out over this larger surface area decreases the time required for heat transfer to take place. As a result, plate coolers typically manage to cool a greater volume of fluid faster than tube-and-fin, or even plate-and-fin, varieties. Add to that a powerful tornado fan that ensures optimum airflow at all times, no matter the environment, and you have a super-efficient heat exchange unit.

The sandwich adapter in this kit provides the external oil lines necessary to install a cooler without requiring you to move the factory spin-on oil filter, making it even easier to extend the life of your vehicle's engine. In addition, the thermostatic bypass feature allows oil cooler than 180 degrees to bypass the heat exchanger, so your engine will warm up faster.

Love my engine oil cooler. I was having overheating problems with my Dodge truck while towing on a hot day. I asked the guys at etrailer if I should add a bigger radiator, and engine oil cooler or another tranny cooler. They nailed it when they recommended a supplemental engine oil cooler. I now can town my fifth wheel RV trailer on the hottest days and in the mountains without overheating. I do still have to watch the temps and if they start to get over 260 f or so I downshift a gear or two to get greater fluid flows. The only reason I am not giving this 5 stars is that with the supplied hose clamps I was plagued with constant slow leaks. I finally bought a much higher end hose Clamp which did solve the problem. 268306

Review from a similar Derale Hyper-Cool in Engine Oil Coolers

Mounted between fuel tank and transfer case. Larger 6.0 cooler would go in front of intercooler. Dont need anymore heat there. This was cheaper and works great in this position. Wrapped exhaust near the lines as they have to dump out on right side of trans. and I did not want any hard 90 degree turns with all this extra plumbing. Keeps temps way lower. Also installed oversize/cooler pan. FYI using temp sensors in pan and in valve body. Pan is regularly 30 degrees cooler than valve body. 438701

Review from a similar Derale Hyper-Cool in Engine Oil Coolers

excellent quality product, I have intalled the fan/cooler on a toyota highlander 2010 without tow package not infront of the a/c radiator but exactly at the same place as toyota install the oem transmission cooler just behind the right fog light. I have a travel trailer of 3300 lbs dry, (4000lbs gross weight) and before my transmission temperature was around 215-220 F with a standard transmission cooler(without a fan) infront of the a/c radiator, but now with my new derale fan cooler, its around 180F after a long climb. I am totally satisfied. I had to build a bracket to fit the cooler in this tiny space behind the fog light, it took me 6-7 hours . 141122

Review from a similar Derale Hyper-Cool in Engine Oil Coolers

Appears to be well-built and wasn't too hard to plumb in series with the existing oil cooler. Unfortunately with my 2010 Suburban it did not make any difference in the oil sump temperature shown by the computer - either daily driving or while towing. I plan on borrowing a laser thermometer to see what the actual input/output temps are. 230261

  • Efficient Engine Oil Cooler on 2014 Ram 1500 5.7L
  • A stacked plate cooler is going to be the most efficient cooler and they're usually smaller giving you more options on installation. In addition, a cooler that includes a fan, like # D15660, can be installed anywhere in the engine compartment since it provides its own air flow. For another option that does not include a fan, # D15605 is our most popular stacked-plate cooler. It will need to installed in a location that provides the most amount of airflow possible. • The best engine oil cooler for your 1998 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 I6 will be the largest one you have space for in front of your radiator behind your grill as this will provide the cooler with the most airflow which will in turn create the best performance. You will want to measure this space prior to purchasing a cooler. If you have space, I recommend using the Derale Tube-Fin Engine Oil Cooler Kit w/ Sandwich Adapter part # D15502. • Recommended Remote Engine Oil Cooler for a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
  • The remote mounted engine oil cooler I recommend for your 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is the Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Engine Cooler Kit part # D15660. This is an excellent option that will keep the engine oil cool when towing through the mountains. The kit comes with everything you need and has a 12 volt electric fan which will work even when stationary or when airflow is limited. The kit comes with a few different adapters but you will need to use the one with the blue/red paint marking....

  • Recommended Oil & Transmission Coolers for 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche Towing Trailer in Hilly Areas
  • Towing places an extra heat burden on both your engine and transmission. Adding a supplementary cooler (or coolers) can take some of this extra stress off the tow vehicle and give you fewer worries as you tow, especially when you're in mountainous areas where there are long slow climbs without a lot of air flow to cool things down. For an oil cooler that will reduce your engine's operating temperature no matter what your actual driving speed is, I suggest a powered cooler that will cool...

  • Which is More Helpful When Towing: Engine Oil Cooler or Transmission Fluid Cooler
  • Transmission cooler is definitely more important than an engine oil cooler. Most modern vehicles have cooling systems that are very efficient and an engine oil cooler is not needed at all. In some cases they actually will slightly lower oil pressure so they really aren't recommended. Transmission coolers do help a ton to preserve the life of a transmission so we recommend them highly. Basically you can't over cool transmission fluid and the cooler it stays the longer the transmission lasts....

  • Engine Oil Cooler Recommendation for Truck that Overheats While Towing Fifth Wheel
  • Your problem would be best solved by a remote engine oil cooler. Since your engine is overheating first that would indicate that the problem is there and not in the transmission fluid. The Derale Atomic Remote Engine Cooler part # D15450 would be a great option. This will drastically cool the engine oil temperature so that your radiator fluid will be lowered considerably which will then allow your transmission fluid to stay a bit cooler as well. Since this cooler has a fan attached to...

  • Cooling the oil might have a small effect on the overall temperature of the engine as a whole, but it will not be very much.
