Do Transmission Coolers Have to Install Right Side Up Or Can they be Upside Down
Updated 06/23/2016 | Published 06/22/2016 >
Question:
Good afternoon Folks, Does the orientation of the inlet and outlet strait up, inverted, to the side Matter? Is there an advantage or disadvantage of routing the fluid in at the bottom, and out the top, and vice versa ?, taking in consideration of gravity return, flow rate i.e. cooling rate, pressure , and fluid circuit separation , In reference to a stacked plate unit. Also ,does an aluminum O-ring style fitting have an advantage over a brass straight non O-ring style fitting for this unit? Thanks ,

The Derale stacked plate transmission coolers like part # D13403 can be mounted in any orientation that you need including having the hose fittings down.
The line pressure from the transmission will push all of the fluid through the cooler regardless of how it is mounted.
My recommendation on mounting this transmission cooler is finding a location that maximizes air flow through the cooler. Ideally, this would be in front of the radiator or AC condenser.
Either fitting style would work great. Some just prefer the install of one over the other.
