Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this MORryde shackle upgrade kit for the tandem axle trailers that have the LRE leaf spring suspension and the OEM correct track hanger. Now, this heavy duty shackle kit is an excellent upgrade for RV suspension. This kit uses the 1/2 inch thick shackle brackets which are a lot thicker, and stronger and more durable than the standard 1/4 inch thick factory brackets. They also use the bronze bushings instead of plastic bushings. These bronze bushings will increase durability and they hold up a lot better than the factory plastic bushings.
And the shackle bolts on this upgrade kit, they use greasable bolts, which are also known as wet bolts and those are easily maintained, help minimize wear and tear versus a tri-bolt. Now, in a multi-axle system the shackles right here, this is what'll link the springs and the equalizers in your suspension system and the shackles are what'll handle the most movement and weight in a suspension setup therefore, they are the most likely component to wear and they should be checked frequently. Now, the shackle bolts which holds the shackle straps to your leaf springs and to your equalizer, they normally use dry bolts from the factory which, over time, can wear out and fail. This nice upgrade kit, besides using the thicker straps also uses the wet bolts, we mentioned. These are shackle bolts that'll have a grease Zerk fitting on the end, allows you to connect a grease gun to this and apply grease to the inside of the bushing.
So, when your bushing is on here the grease will come out that hole and it greases the inside of the bushing, keeps that wear from happening at the connection points. Now, this upgrade kit will replace the shackle straps, the bushings, bolts, lock nuts on your RV suspension system. Everything laid out here on the table's included. I'm gonna go through em all. Comes with eight of these 2-1/4 inch long, 1/2 inch wide shackle straps.
Now, when I say 2-1/4 inch long what I'm measuring is these from the center hole here to the center hole here. So that's a 2-1/4 inch long shackle strap. Comes with 12 of the 9/16 diameter by 3-3/8 inch long wet bolts, eight of the bronze bushings, 12 of these 7/16 size flange lock nuts, the four shear spring brackets and then in this bag there's 16 of the 3/8 inch diameter yellow zinc bolts and the 16 3/8 inch size zinc lock nuts. Does come with a nice set of installation instructions that will describe how everything gets installed and these parts are made in the USA. But that should do it for the review on the MORryde shackle upgrade kit for the tandem axle trailers with the LRE leaf spring suspension and the OEM correct track hanger..

Extend the life of your trailer's suspension with this heavy-duty hardware kit. 1/2" Thick steel shackle straps will outlast the standard straps on your double-eye leaf springs. Wet bolts and bronze bushings help keep your setup lubricated. This Hardware kit combined with the Dexter EZ-Flex equalizer seem to be a very cost-effective solution. I am always looking for better reliability, and long-term use. After installing this new equalizer suspension system, I am confident that the ride will be much smoother, and not nearly as squeaky as the original manufacture set up on my enclosed trailer (Ragen 24C). The OEM hardware, including a triangular equalizer, had completely worn the plastic bushings and every hole that had a bolt running through it was obround. After worrying something would break on several trips, the satisfaction of installing this upgraded system and knowing it’s right is peace of mind.
-Bronze bushings are better than plastic.
-Zerk fittings are better than none.
-Shackle plates twice as thick
Don’t even try installation without air tools! Use two floor jacks to deal with axle twist but otherwise instructions were good. The first hardware kit sent to me was incorrect, so be sure to measure all your hanger brackets and get the right kit. Etrailer was very helpful to get the parts required to get the job done.
Nothing like having peace of mind of not worrying of a shackle strap breaking, Really like the greaseable capability so it can be serviced and prolong the life of these suspension components. No matter what camper I have, I will have these thick shackles installed.
Not too hard to install, be sure to jack your camper for safety!
I replaced the leaf springs and upgraded the shackles one end of the axel at a time. My ten year old Jayco Pinnacle 36KPTS was sagging on driver's side. This side has two slide outs and is heavier. I also replaced the rubber shear springs. I put a sharpie pen mark on the wet bolts to make sure the grease hole is at 3 or 9 o'clock positions. I am very happy with the installation. I used an 11mm socket to remove the plastic bushing in the leaf spring eyes and used a hammer to tap in the brass bushings that came with the wet bolt upgrade kit.
Along with replacing the springs on my tandem trailer I upgraded the equalizers shackles and installed with the wet bolt hardware. I am very satisfied with the quality of components. etrailer’s customer service and quick delivery will continue to be my first go to when I need parts.
The Equalizer, shackle straps and wet bolts from MORryde were fairly easy to install and grease. Although I haven't pulled the trailer yet it's comforting to know that the MUCH STRONGER grease-able components are now part of the suspension system. I was able to press out the old splined bolts with a c-clamp as I didn't want to add stress to my hangars and possibly bend them or weaken the weld points by hammering them out.
You need to make these brackets fo the sumo spring. My wet Bolt kits were great ! Much needey.
I feel so much more confident the suspension will hold up to many miles of travel. I love that I can grease the bronze bushings and know that there is maximum protection in those joints. Of course I also love the smooth ride and less disruption inside the camper.
I sent the following comments by email earlier:
Nothing looks damaged although the packaging for shipment could be better. And when I opened the box with the shackles and wet bolts, it was obvious this was a returned order by someone else. It was not properly repackaged, and everything thrown in the box loose. Most of the parts were already cut out of the plastic shrink wrap and carboard backing. The only thing I can see missing at this point is the instructions. However, I have watched enough of the videos provided by eTrailer to be familiar with the installation process.
Thought I would let you know.
They were very easy to install. An inpact for the old bolts made the job easy.
It only took me 31/2 hour to do both sides. I have a 248RBS freedom express 20178. Need to check you shackle straps my were worn and the stock bushings were almost gone. Very good product.
They are better than original. They have bronze bushings instead of oem plastic and they are greaseable. The most important part to me is that I was able to call etrailer and tell them about my need for these with the Road Armor and they were able to tell me which set to get. This modification allows me to pull the trailer safely and without issue down the road.
The shackle upgrade is a must if your trailer has the stock 1/8” shackles. On one trip from Arizona to Montana I had two fail, one on the way up and another on the way back. This was a problem to fix on the road and extra cost to have it repaired on the road and dangerous when it happens. I replace the all and upgraded to the 3/8” brass sleeves with grease zerts. It was about a two day job to do it myself. Make sure you have heavy duty jack stand and jacks to ro this job.
Good trailer upgrade. My spring OEM (plastic) spring/shackle bushings were shot after six years of light trailering. Kit fit my Phoenix/MarineMaster Trailer perfectly. I like that I won't have to worry about changing bushings again.
Well satisfied with the shackles and wet bolts! Twice as thick as the old stock ones which broke as you can see in the picture.
These shackle turned out to be very well built, nearly twice the thickness and assuming you have basic mechanical skills, and can safety lift and support your unit to install, they were very easy to install. Mine have been installed for about a year and maybe 7K miles with no issues to report. While, I don't know how important the greasable aspect of these shackles are, it is nice to know I can easily grease them each year while inspecting my bearings.
Nice kit that I installed on a 2023 38’ KZ Durango fifth wheel. Spring hangers are more than double the thickness of the OEM parts. Adding the wet bolts is a nice upgrade. Easy install. Only issue was one wet bolt would not take grease. Since my equalizer already had bronze bushings I ended up with extra wet bolts so just set the one aside for now. Overall very happy with the Morryde kit. Gives me better piece of mind on my trailer suspension. Minus one star for the wet bolt that wouldn’t flow grease.
I have not installed them yet. But I did receive them today and man they look amazing. I was unaware of the existence of these, even when I was looking for replacement parts. Luckily I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. I called in late one evening and received the help I truly deserved!
I was promptly helped to find the items I truly needed. No more worried for me. I had several issues with my order (all my fault) and each one was addressed perfectly.
every thing ordered fit perfectly a little labor intensive but job completed in approximately 6 hrs shear springs will make a big difference as the old ones had worn out and were splitting bad on left side not so much on right but replaced both sides and all bushings and new wet bolts and shackles now the suspension is like new as my Montane is 10 yrs old
I like that I can grease the bolts as the old ones were seized up. What I do need is four more bolts like the ones that go with the shackles for the other end of the spring. The existing springs had 1/4” positioning plates. I used existing bolts for now. Do you sell just four of the longer bolts?
I always wanted to replace the stock shackles with this MORyde kit. Fit as expected and am looking for a long life out of the new shackles.
I saw these on a Facebook RV site and after doing some research, I decided purchase them to help lessen some of the road shock from the terrible U.S. roads. As we know the quality control on RV construction is not the best. I figured anything I could due to prevent some of the road stress on the camper, was a good thing. I was very happy with the quality of theses equalizers, they are really a heavy duty product. I had them installed at the tire dealer while he was putting new tires on the RV. This saved some labor costs as the already had the tires off. I am a DIY person, but I did not feel comfortable dealing with the tension on the leaf springs. I did purchase wet bolts and bigger brackets to go with these, the customer service rep at etrailer help me select all the parts to make sure they were compatible with my camper.
When starting the installation remove the shackles from the fixed hangers first. When lowering the spring to expose the old bushing after taking out the bolt, lower it just far enough so it stays in the hanger but you can still knock the old bushing out. This way if the spring is slightly load to one side it will be easy just to jack the spring eye back in place with out have to struggle to line it back up. Ask me how I know. Other than that it was pretty straight forward. Looks to be well built.
I run my Work & Play toy hauler heavy and a lot of miles. The MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit has been great! All parts fit as expected and once installed made for a quieter ride and easy bushing greasing through the installed Zerk fittings. My stock suspension had nylon bushings that wore out then the pivot bolts wore through the shackles. The brass replacement bushings received will probably last the life of the trailer.
Recommend checking your trailer suspension before it breaks leaving you stranded with the tire rubbing on the wheel well. This happened to me!
After Ashley and others helped in an emergency situation overnighting another package of MORryde wet-bolts/shackles, I was able to complete the installation along with a Correct Track Alignment/Lift Kit. This was a JOB with 2 dudes hard at it to get the wet bolts/shackles on with the alignment and lift kit, getting the axles aligned just in time to hit the road for our long scheduled vacation... I was missing 2 longer wet bolts for some reason? I have to to tell you it was FRANTIC at the end, since I was doing my own work luckily with a friends help. It's a 2 person job.But ETRAILER came through! Thank you gals and guys! Rated a 4 only because there weren't enough longer bolts that were missing. ETrailer sales and tech are a 5!
Order arrived on time and complete. Bought a 5th wheel and realized that the previous owner either knew nothing about using a grease gun or relied on the service tech to grease the wet bolts. 9 of the 14 wet bolts would not push grease thru the zerk. Completed the work myself in a few hours with the help of the videos, along with saving 2 hundred bucks a hour and knowing the job was done right!
The package arrived as scheduled. Must have gotten banged around as the box had slight damage in one corner and two of the shackels were broken away from the package. The shackels sure look heavy duty. I could see a bolt breaking before any of these shackels
