Weight Distribution Diagram

Create a more stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight-distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight-Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight-distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight-distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight-distribution system.

Fastway e2 Sway Control

The two points of sway control within the e2 are created by the steel-on-steel friction that occurs when the spring bars slide within the L-brackets that are mounted on the trailer tongue. Most traditional weight-distribution systems have spring bars that are suspended by chains. Although this ensures that the system is not so rigid as to create bounce in the trailer, it also allows a good deal of side-to-side play in the system.

The direct friction that is applied to the spring bars in the e2 system helps to stop sway once it has begun. The concept is similar to the way in which an add-on friction sway control device functions. When each spring bar moves forward or backward, or side to side, it rubs along the bracket, creating friction. The resistance created by this action limits the movement of the spring bar, thus preventing further side-to-side movement of the trailer.

Most add-on units feature some sort of friction material similar to that used in automotive brakes. But the e2 uses direct steel-on-steel contact to create resistance. This is the same sort of friction that is used with locomotives that pull loaded railcars weighing tons. No additional materials are needed. The steel will outlast any of those other materials, providing an extremely durable, functional sway-control system.

Easy to install, easy-to-follow instructions. Anti-sway worked well at highway speeds and on country roads. It's heavy! Recommend getting one of those hitch carriers or a large tool bag to carry it. 422666

I am still happy with my purchase. 2000 Yukon XL towing apx 3500 lb single axle 19 ft camper. We have done a few 8 hr trips and a lot of local ones. No sway rides smooth. Easy to hook up. 673818

Still working great. No problems. Havent needed any adjustments.

I will update this review after I have installed the Weight Distribution system on my unit, but I wanted to give a special thank you to Vanessa who did an outstanding job of getting me a part that had broken out of the box during shipment. She did a great job of keeping me up to date on the status of my missing item. The item was very heavy and the packing it came in today was outstanding. Many thanks. 518453

The Weight Distribution system has been working great. I have had only one minor problem in that the L bracket hangers have bowed slightly which has caused the bottom of the hanger to shift to the rear of the trailer. I have torque the hanger bolts per the installation instructions. Since the bottom bolt of the hanger assembly does not touch the bottom of the trailer rail, I am going to try and add a spacer between it an the trailer rail to see if that alleviates the issue. Load sharing is great and I have never had the trailer sway on me at all. I am open to suggestions on other ways to solve this issue. By the way I am in the process of upgrading this unit for my new toy hauler. Going up to the 1,200 12,000 lb unit.

Our friends (who had a large Roo trailer) recommended that we get he Equalizer E2 trunnion hitch for our 26-foot Jayco mated to our F150. Everything has been great. It is easy to hook up and disconnect, and when pulling, the trailer is stable and we have had no swaying of any kind. Our [retailer] tech installed it, and we are totally happy with it. 348753

E2 weight distribution/anti-sway system arrived right on time. The PET was easy to follow and the unit was easy to install. I had to make some slight modifications to my travel trailer to make it fit. I followed the step by step instructions to adjust the unit and just pulled it to the lake camp sight. It performed incredibly well, and the difference before and after is unbelievable! 504341

The only reason I am giving this four stars instead of five is the adjustability of the hitch. For my vehicle, the hitch was either way too high or low, so there is a "watch out" here. I chose for it to be lower, without getting a specially drilled bracket (weekend warrior hauling doesn't justify that). In general, it was extremely easy to install and the instructions were straight forward however they were contradictory with height measurements. First it talks about wanting to put the tow vehicle height halfway between the unhitched height and the initial hitched height, but then it states to put the final heights back to the original measurements. Being an engineer and thinking about it, as well as looking at instructions from other manufacturers, you want the tow vehicle to be as close to the unhitched height as possible. You do NOT want to overcompensate, though. Once I figured that out, it was a piece of cake to set up. Again, easy to install, easy to hitch, easy to set and unset the torsion bars (using your tongue jack to take the weight off helps a bunch), great sway control, and great weight distribution (if it is set up well). Make certain you always keep the trunion pivot pins well greased to avoid wear, so buy a tube or two of grease and keep it with the hitch. 525696

I am very pleased on the performance of our E2 hitch. Being from central Montana, it can be quite windy along the mountains. With a 28 ft camper this was my greatest concern as most of our trips are into the mountains. The hitch leveled out the trailer, distributed the weight and controlled the wind gusts as I had hoped and expected. Jennifer was super helpful when there was an issue with my order online. She took care of the issue and had our hitch on its way. 665436

Good product. Works in stabilizing the trailer. Bars can be a little tough to get in place depending on terrain. 773464

I communicated a few times with Miranda in Customer Service, during and after my purchase. Miranda was helpful, knowledgeable and quick to respond!! The product seems well made and pretty easy to install with the exception of high torque requirements on two bolts and trailer ball. I'd give the install instructions a 4 STAR rating. The install of the spacer washers concerning the "head pitch" are vague with no picture. I referred to a Video for clarification on the install. 756249

Love this set up. Takes a bit of getting used to when hooking up/unhooking, but it works well. Having a power tongue jack helps with the raising and lowering required to get the sway bars on and off the brackets. 707370

This hitch set up was perfect for us. We have a small 21 foot travel trailer and pull it with a standard 2013 1500 Silverado. The hitch did its job lifting the rear of the truck to level. Great sway control. I highly recommend it. When we eventually go with a bigger set up, I WILL be buying this brand again. 508769

I purchased this unit for my daughter and son-in-law after they purchased their first RV trailer. I've had a little experience with WDH (weight distribution hitch) and highly recommended and explained this one for them. Installation was straight forward with the simple to understand directions. The balancing of the units went easy after viewing the video at etrailer.com. I feel better knowing they will be traveling safe with this combination sway control and WDH. 477540

Installed today with no problems. My Frontier Pro4x now sits level with a fully loaded truck and camper. etrailer staff did an excellent job of guiding me to the right sized hitch. Smooth ride, I'm happy! 440545

- FA92-00-0800

The hitch was more difficult to install than anticipated. We needed to purchase a larger than typical wrench to get the job done. What took most of the time was the adjustments rather than the physical attaching. Make sure you are careful with your measurements! Overall I am very pleased with the product. It definitely helps produce a smoother ride. 381310

Good Product and great service. The order was received quickly and exactly as ordered. The hitch installation was well documented and was easily completed (after purchasing a few larger wrenches). Using this on a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee pulling a 2horse bumper pull trailer. So far, it seems to make the trailer more stable, although I have yet to haul it with both horses loaded. 229253

The dealer installed the hitch when we picked up the new trailer. They made it look easy. Since we pulled away from the lot we have had no issues. Our first trip was 1200 miles over numerous mountain passes in OR, CA & NV. Easy to connect. I'd recommend this hitch to anyone. 103898

Review from a similar e2 in Weight Distribution Hitch

Product was exactly has ordered. Instructions were very clear. I pull a 5000 lbs dry weight toy hauler which I expect to put about 2000 extra pounds of ATV, fuel, water, tools, etc.... on the trailer. My 2018 Chevy 1/2 ton Z71 was rated at 9700 lbs from the factory. My first pull of the trailer was 200 miles with only air bags on the truck. We bounced all the way home with the trailer. After installing the Fastway e2 Wt Dist w Sway Control we no longer have bouncing like before. I did however pull with air in the bags and with NO air in the bags. I feel the truck rode much better with air in the bags, but the best part is I had no bound with or without air in the bags. If I had bough the hitch first I would not have bought the air bags. 775004

  • Recommend Weight Distribution Hitch for Trailer with 400 lb Tongue Weight Multiple Tow Vehicles
I have great news for you. We have several weight distribution systems available that can be used on both trucks and suvs. The reason for this is because a weight distribution system is based off of the trailer rather than the tow vehicle. I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution System part # FA92-00-0800 which is rated for a tongue weight range of 400 - 800 lbs. That said, if you decide to tow an even heavier trailer with your truck for example you can purchase another set of spring...

Yes there are alternate weight distribution shanks that offer more rise or drop than the one that came with your Fastway system # FA92-00-0800. Shank number # FA92-02-4214 offers up to 4 inches of drop but it is measured differently than how you have measured. Rise or drop needed in a ball mount or shank is measured as follows: Park the truck and trailer on level ground and disconnect the truck from the trailer. Then measure from the ground up to the top of the hitch receiver opening...

  • Hitch Recommendation for 2002 Jeep Liberty for Use with Weight Distribution
Here's what I would recommend. Since your trailer will be on the heavier side of the towing capacity of your 2002 Jeep Liberty you are going to want to be able to use weight distribution if at all possible. To accomplish that you can replace the Curt hitch you have with the Draw Tite hitch part # 75128 which is rated for weight distribution and would be a great solution. This way you don't have to return anything and you'll have the best towing setup available for your 2002 Jeep Liberty.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for Wolf Pup 16BHS Trailer with 2013 Toyota 4Runner
I checked the online owners manual for your 2013 Toyota 4Runner and the tongue weight can be between 9 and 11 percent of the trailer weight without using a weight distribution system. So based on the tongue weight you gave of 417 lbs, the tongue weight of your trailer is just over 14% so it is recommended to use a weight distribution system. When choosing which system is best for your vehicle and trailer combination, you want to determine the total tongue weight. This is the loaded...

  • What Typically Causes Trailer Sway and Will Weight Distribution System Prevent It
If you are experiencing persistent sway at highway speeds your real issue is most likely trailer loading. You need to move the weight of any cargo forward if at all possible so that the tongue weight is between 10 and 15 percent of the total trailer weight. The other possible contributing factor for sway is worn out suspension components which you can find by inspecting the setup and fixing as needed. Now when it comes to the correct tongue weight range for WD spring bars you want to...

  • Best Way To Disengage The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution System From The Tow Vehicle
The best way to disengage the weight distribution system from the tow vehicle involves removing the spring bars from the weight distribution head while the head is still attached to the vehicle's frame brackets. To do this, you will want to use a jack to lift both the vehicle and trailer to take some of the tension off the spring bars. Doing this will allow you to remove the spring bars from the frame brackets. You will then want to lower the trailer jack just enough to uncouple the trailer...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System For 2004 Fleetwood Pioneer Travel Trailer
For the limited clearance you described, I don't recommend the Pro Series Weight Distribution System w/ Friction Sway Control - Round - 10,000 lbs GTW, 750 lbs TW # PS49582. For your system, you need to take the total tongue weight which includes the loaded trailer tongue weight and any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. This combined number is the total tongue weight and you want that to fall near the center of the tongue weight rating of your weight distribution system....

  • Can Vehicle Tongue Weight Capacity be Exceeded for Short Trip before Adding WD System
I know it might not be what you want to hear but I really can't recommend towing your trailer, which has 500 pounds of tongue weight, with your SUV that lists a 400 pound maximum tongue weight without a weight distribution system. Even for a short distance at lower speeds there is still the potential that this vertical weight could damage the hitch or your vehicle and it wouldn't be covered under the manufacturer's warranty. If you can find a way to hook up a weight distribution system...

  • Do Spring Bars on Weight Distribution System Need to be Parallel?
The trunnion bars on your weight distribution system do need to be parallel to the ground in order to operate properly. The goal of a weight distribution system is in part to help stop sag, however, so I would double check just to ensure everything was installed properly, including having the correct head tilt. I know it's a pain to have to do that, but air bags should really only be supplemental to your weight distribution and not used as a way to significantly reduce sag if you are...
