If you're replacing a busted or rusted-out spring on your trailer - or if you've decided to upgrade to dacromet to avoid rusted-out springs down the line - the first thing you'll need to do is measure your existing leaf springs. Take a look at the measurements above. If these dimensions - and the weight rating - match what you currently have, you should be good to go.

Remember, though, your leaf springs can flatten a bit over time. And if you're measuring your spring while your trailer is fully loaded, the overall length that you get might be a bit more than what you need a brand new, unloaded spring to measure.

Rustproof Your Trailer Suspension with Dacromet

Double-Eye Diagram Dacromet

As you travel across highways and backroads, your trailer's leaf springs are going to corrode and flake over time. This is especially true if you have a boat trailer that's regularly submerged in water. Completely rusted-out springs on trailers are all too common, and these dacromet springs are a great solution to that problem.

Dacromet Versus Rusty Springs Comparison

Longer-lasting springs will save you money and are great for any trailer, but they are a must have for folks who live or play by the water. If you live on the coast, you're probably always rinsing the saltwater off of your trailer to try and keep rust at bay. If you're really worried, you might've even tried to repaint your springs or spray them down with rust inhibitors. But upgrading to these dacromet-coated leaf springs could cut down on or eliminate all of that maintenance, leaving you more time to spend out on the water.

Rust-resistant coatings are graded according to a salt spray rating. Basically, this rating shows the amount of time it takes for a material to show signs of corrosion when exposed to pure, continuous salt spray. We conducted our own salt spray test and found that this dacromet coating lasts up to 744 hours before it begins to deteriorate. Compare that to some other dacromet coatings out there that are rated at just 300 hours - or zinc coatings that don't last for even that long - and you can be sure these springs will last.

Double-Eye Leaf Spring Basics

Leaf springs, as you probably know, make up an important part of your trailer's suspension. Their main purpose is to absorb road shock as you travel, as well as allow your axle(s) to move independently of the rest of the trailer.

Double-Eye Spring Parts

To mount this leaf spring, you'll need hangers welded onto your trailer frame - which you probably already have in place - as well as shackle straps and a suspension bolt. It's a good idea to replace your existing straps and bolt while you're under there working on things because they tend to wear out quickly. One thing that could help keep them from wearing out too fast would be upgrading to galvanized or zinc-plated hardware. Doing so will boost the corrosion resistance and, therefore, the longevity of your trailer.

We also always recommend replacing both of your springs at the same time because it's not unusual for leaf springs to sag and elongate over time. If you replace just the one, there's a good chance that it won't match your existing spring on the opposite side of your trailer, and that can mess up your alignment.

  • How to Determine Correct 4,000 lb Trailer Leaf Springs
I can help you determine the right replacement double-eye leaf springs for your Keystone Hideout, though we don't have any way of knowing what specific ones you need. It's pretty easy though, as all you need to do is measure your current leaf springs from center-to-center of the spring eyes. Leaf springs also flatten a bit over time, so you should go with ones that measure a bit shorter than what you currently have. For example, if your current leaf springs measure 26-1/4" center eye to...

  • Raising Trailer Suspension To Clear Rear Leaf Spring From Hitting The Crossmember
It appears you may have installed shackle straps which are longer than what you may have had. It appears your straps are either 3-1/8" # TRSL313 or 3-1/2" # TRSL350 and you likely only need a 2-1/4" # TRSL225. This would move the mounting point closer to the axle and raise the trailer approximately 1/2". To get enough height to clear your crossmember you will likely need the Lift Kit # RR23QX. This will allow you to raise the suspension either 1-1/4" or 2-1/4" to clear your rear crossmember. On...

  • Troubleshooting 3,500LB Trailer Leaf Springs Bottoming Out & Flattening On 3,750LB GVWR Boat Trailer
If your trailer has a GVWR of 3,750lbs and your boat only weighs 1,460lbs you should be fine with the 3,500LB Leaf Springs # e54SR. I would recommend taking your boat and trailer to a nearby scale to have the trailer weighed to ensure you are under the 3,500lb capacity rating for the springs. This will also help to ensure you are not overloading the trailer which could create a more catastrophic problem. While you could go to heavier springs like the 4,000LB # e93SR this would most likely...

  • Determining The Correct Replacement Leaf Springs For A 2021 Keystone Passport Grand Touring TT
You could potentially replace your leaf springs with a larger capacity spring but will need to match the length of your current leaf springs to avoid having to remove and reinstall the hangers and rest of the suspension system, which is a giant hassle and a lot more costly than just replacing the springs. If you have double-eye leaf springs you'll need to measure from the center of one eyelet to the center of the other. If you have slipper springs then you'll need to measure from the...

  • Replacement For 25-1/2 Inch Leaf Springs on Boat Trailer
Leaf springs flatten out over time, so since yours are 25-1/2" center to center, you'll want to go with ones a little shorter than that: - 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,000-lb Trailer Axles - 25-1/4" Long - Dacromet # e93SR The # e93SR says for "4,000 lb" axles but that is just their capacity; you said you have 2-3/8" axles, which is a 3,500 lb axle, so this will give you a bit of added strength. You mentioned 3" shackle bolts as well, and for those use # 166081. Then for the U-bolts,...

  • Replacement Leaf Spring Options For a 2021 KZ Sportsman 301BHKSE
Looking up the information for your 2021 KZ Sportsman 301BHKSE I see that they use axles rated for 4,000lbs. For this we have either the 26" # e48SR or 25-1/4" # e93SR leaf springs. You will need to measure the springs on your KZ to verify the correct replacements. As this measurement is from eye center to eye center with the springs relaxed the easier measurement is measure along the curve of the spring from eye center to center of spring pin. The 26" spring will be 14" while the 25-1/4"...

  • Recommended Upgraded Leaf Springs for a 2022 Grand Design 2400BH
I looked up the US-1067 Leaf Springs and they re 25-1/4" long so if that's what you need I recommend the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,000-lb Trailer Axles part # e93SR which are the same length, but a bit less capacity at 2,000 lbs. However, they are still rated for more than the 1,750 lb capacity of your existing springs. They also have a better dacromet finish for more rust protection.

  • Replacement 25-1/4 Leaf Springs for a Ranger RT188 Boat Trailer
To replace your 25-1/4" leaf springs on your Ranger RT188 boat trailer I recommend the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring item # e93SR. These have a 4,000 lbs capacity and three leafs. They will work great on your trailer. There are a few ways to gain additional clearance between your tire and fender, but going with longer shackle straps won't accomplish what you're looking for. I recommend moving your fender up if possible but you really don't have much room to work with.
