Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

2018 Toyota Highlander

This is a great class II hitch for my wife's 2018 CR-V. We will use it for a bike carrier & cargo carrier . I already have a class III Draw-Tite hitch on my Toyota Highlander. It was a great fit and the etrailer.com instruction video was a great help. I installed it by myself in about 90 minutes. It would have been great to have a second person but I used jacks to help support the other end of the hitch while I attached each end.

New 2018 CR-V EX-L. Hitch for my Thule bike rack.

Samantha at eTrailer helped me quickly and efficiently make sure I had the right parts, emailed me the tracking number. The service was excellent. I think this is either the third or fourth hitch purchased here, and I've never been disappointed.

Working by myself, it took 2-1/2 hours, including time to round up tools, borrow the ramps from neighbor, back it on the ramps. Ramps were about 8", just about right (for an old guy) to get to the muffler doughnut forward of the wheels. Two loops of rope to prevent the pipes from dropping far and also so the two mufflers would hold the weight of the hitch after lifting it in, rest the hitch on mufflers and lightly attach the center aft U bolt. Everything worked per the instructions.

The rubber muffler isolators are difficult because no amount of WD40 will penetrate into the rubber where it's needed. I used a small 12" prybar and a small block of wood, (see the picture) maybe 3"x4"x3/4" to hold in there for leverage for the prybar, and it worked fine. Replacing the muffler back into the rubber isolators was easy because the WD40 could be sprayed where it was needed. So reassembly was quick.

2010 Honda CR-V

This is our second 'Draw-Tite' hitch. The original is still on our 2010 Honda Fit. It has and will continue to serve us well. When we recently purchased a new Honda CR-V, we hoped that we could get the same type of hitch and we could. It easily accommodates our Swagman Platform bike rack (which is interchangeable between the cars!) We liked and like that the hitch has a nice profile and looks good as an add-on to our cars. Based on the performance of our older one we are confident that this hitch will be just as great. Although not requested, I want to mention the customer service from etrailer. No question too trivial or silly for this group of professionals. And our installer was thrilled with the detailed instructions.

Thank you!!

The hitch was received in a very timely manner. It looked like a job for two people, so I recruited my nephew (a certified Honda technician) to help. He had originally offered to install the hitch after hours at work, but things got too busy, so he came over on his day off.
I backed the CR-V up onto a pair of ramps to give us some room. We watched the video and started the installation. Getting the rubber muffler mounts off was a bit of a chore, but we both commented on how ingenious the fish wire technique was. He held up the hitch while I assembled one of the bolts. Then I held up the hitch while he assembled one of the bolts on the opposite side. We found installing the u-bolt made this much easier, and fairly quickly assembled all the hardware and then tightened all the fasteners to spec.
He commented on how much easier it was to install the Draw-Tite hitch than it was to install the Honda option. I purchased both the hitch and Tekonsha wiring kit, plus a 4-wire & 7-wire tester, plus a rubber hitch cover. The Honda option was $350, plus whatever taxes would apply. In any case, the Draw-Tite hitch way exceeds the CV-R specification (hitch 3500/350 lbs, vehicle 1500/150 lbs - towing capacity/tongue load). He said the Honda hitch required removing several panels & insulation, the bumper, and drilling the frame (the Honda hitch slides into the end of the frame). He also thought mounting the hitch from the ground was easier (we got more leverage on our backs) than using the shop lift.
Then we installed the wiring kit per the video. Getting some of the panels loose was a bit of a pain, and we couldn't loosen the topmost panel the way it was shown on the video, but we were able to pull out the wiring harness plug enough to connect it. I also didn't really like the way on the video that just hung the plug out the rear hatch. So we removed the rubber plug on the rear wall underneath the sound insulation in the spare wheel well, then using some vise grips, bent out the steel enough to widen the hole so we could slip the 4 pin plug through, hammered the metal flat again, pulled the cable out the bottom and wrapped it once around the round hitch tubing. Then I drilled out the center of the rubber plug, and cut one edge to the center, slipped it over the cable and replaced the plug from inside the wheel well. Used the new tester to verify everything was good and button the CV-R back up, replacing all the panels and weatherstripping.

Very professional job, and better than the instructions. I use the rubber plug cap to keep the plug out of the way when not in use, by looping through one of the chain attachment loops (see photo). Extremely happy with the purchase. Fantastic design, really couldn't be much happier. Definitely recommend this purchase.

Trailer hitch Drawtite #36597, the installation is pretty intuitive but tightening the (4) hold down bolts onto the box chassis is a challenge. Perfect in pulling 5x10 utility trailer with load less than 3000#. I'm no expert but I did it by myself. It was done in 2-hrs and another 45-min for the Tekonsha # 118741 hitch wiring, that includes beer break!

2022 Honda CR-V

Fits perfectly on my 2022 Honda CRV. Very easy installation with the help of the videos that etrailer provides. No cutting and no fuss. Did the hitch install in about an hour, but I've done a few in the past. I've ordered several times over the years and etrailer is the best place to get hitches, receivers and wiring.

2017 CRV 1.25" Draw-Tite 36597 receiver hitch from etrailer.com is fantastic.
1. I ordered it online from etrailer.com for around 95 dollars plus about 20 dollars for shipping.
2. I emailed my professional installer the install-video from the etrailer website.
3. I received the hitch from etrailer in 3 days.
4. Took it to my professional installer, who installed it in less than 1.5 hours. Installer said it was just like video from etrailer site: lower mufflers, put bolts through pre-drilled holes (once he widened those holes).
5. Installer charged me under $100
6. Total cost under $200
7. My Thule 1.25" bike rack fit the receiver hitch perfectly. That afternoon, I moved 8 different bikes to various locations on the bike rack. Everything worked smoothly.
8. Later that day, I went grocery shopping. The kick sensor for opening/closing the CRV's back door worked fine. It was not obstructed by the hitch.
9. I did not like the white "Draw-Tite" lettering on the left brace of the hitch...so I peeled it off.
10. I left the white technical info on the right brace because it is useful and not ugly.
11. The only reason I need a receiver hitch is for my bike rack.
12. My bike rack is 1.25" and securely key locks onto the 1.25" receiver.
13. A Class III 2" receiver is larger than I need. It could be fitted with an adapter for a 1.25", BUT I was not convinced the adapter could be as securely key locked, and the 2" receiver would make the CRV look more like a truck.
14. To me, the Class II 1.25" receiver hitch looks fine as part of the back of my 2017 CRV Touring. See pics. If you think you have difficulty seeing the hitch, you are correct...it melds with the CRV.
15. Prior to discovering etrailer, I asked my Honda dealer to order the Honda 2017 CRV hitch and install it. That would have been 1k. After reading the 30-some page installation instructions, I became concerned with the Honda installer having to take so much of the CRV apart...including the back sensors. Fortunately my Honda dealer could not get the Honda hitch.
15. Fortunately I carefully reviewed the etrailer.com website and video.
16. I am extremely pleased with etrailer.

The hands-free tailgate on our 2017 CR-V AWD Touring model doesn't kick open anymore, but it's my wife's car and this feature never liked her much anyway so she doesn't think she'll miss it. In any case the hitch mounts where it's supposed to, looks good, and supports the Reese Bike Rack just fine. If you're installing it yourself then I recommend that you also undo the exhaust hanger in front of the rear wheel, otherwise good luck getting a torque wrench in position above the mufflers. We don't plan on towing a trailer anyway, just the bike rack, so hopefully not torquing it to spec is no big deal.

2018 Honda CR-V

Perfect trailer hitch to support my Thule bike rack. Easy to get the Thule bike rack on the trailer hitch and easy off. Installation of the trailer hitch was installed professionally by my local mechanic.

by:

The hitch installed without issues and fit perfectly. The hardest part was disconnecting the exhaust system rubber mounts, which was a lot easier once I applied a little dish washing liquid. The hitch installed without needing to trim or "finesse" anything.

On Tuesday evening ~7:30 PM EST, I ordered the hitch and paid extra for three day shipping. Imaging my surprise when I got notification about two hours later that the hitch had already shipped. The hitch arrived on Thursday! Wow!

Over the years, I have purchased a number of hitches from etrailer.com. In all cases, they arrived quickly and were top quality.

Thank you!

2017 Honda CR-V

When it arrived the UPS driver took off quickly and when I looked at the box I saw why. One corner was completely ripped open and the hitch was sticking out. Everything was in the box because it was all secured. It looked like it was droped and the weight of the hitch broke the box. If there are any scratches, they are very minor and irrelevant. Great packaging George, keep up the good work and thank you for a good deal.

by:

One year of rain, muck, snow, and ice, there are no indications of wear or rust. Just a little dirt to show for wear. Quality made product with the advantage of a diy install if you have tools and are good with your hands. All that being said, there has been minor exposure to road salt due the conditions in which this vehicle has travelled. I would absolutely by an etrailer product again in the future.

by:
2019 Honda CR-V

Excellent product, bolted right on as instructed. I did have to remove the rubber exhaust hanger at the exhaust “Y” ( just forward of the mufflers ) as suggested in the instructions to give myself additional room to bolt on. Great quality and doesn’t look bad on our new CRV. Works great to hold our Kuat bike carrier.

by:

It is working, easy to install, removing interior plastic body parts is always a bit intimidating, but I bought an inexpensive set of the the tools to remove them, the concern was putting it back together so it would look like a nice late model car, and I was successful.

Fantastic! Went right on my 2019 Honda CRV! My husband and I were able to install in just over an hour. The install videos were clear and showed us just what we needed to do! It’s a solid son of a hitch!

Delivery was quick. Product was scuffed in some areas but you won't notice them after Installation. On my own took 45 minutes to install. Hardest part was maneuvering around the muffler. I started in the middle, using the pre existing hook to help hold the weight and then getting 1 screw on each side fastened before as how to videos suggest. Very happy overall with product and the efficiency of the company.

by:

Product showed up faster than expected at very reasonable price had one issue with some scratches and chips on hitch called etrailer issued me a reasonable credit I fixed scratches and chips with paint and I was very satisfied

Yes, getting the hitch maneuvered into place to get the first two bolts started was a chore working solo, but of all the hitches I've installed, this one went on the easiest. No drilling... no muss... no fuss... great product... fit great.

Ive only used this hitch on my wifes 19 CR-V a couple of times for a bike rack &amp had no problems... I decided to not try to keep the moisture out with a rubber end plug as Ive done in the past and this is much better. The hitch still looks brand new as opposed to the others that rusted very quickly with a plug in the end.

Very nice hitch… And George did a great job packing it. It arrived in perfect shape and the install was as easy as the video made it seem. Great experience

2017 Honda CR-V

I needed a hitch for a bike rack and a hitch-mounted table that we use for tailgating.

The Honda dealer wanted over $1000 (parts & labor) for their hitch. This one was a great deal at less than a tenth of the cost. The estimated installation time is 30 mins. I assume that is for someone who has done it before and has access to a lift and someone to help them lift the hitch into place. It probably took me more like 1-1/2 hours. I used car ramps (backed the car onto the ramps) and did not have any help. I used a floor jack to lift the hitch into place. The hardest (and most time consuming) part of the whole job for me was getting the rubber exhaust donuts on and off. Other than that it was VERY easy. 1-1/2 hours of work to save approximately $900, how can you go wrong? I would definitely buy it again! Also very happy with shipping time from etrailer!

The installation of the hitch on the 2017 CR-V Touring was straight forward. I used the etrailer video to get helpfull hints. Toughest part was the muffler hangers. I used WD40 per the video. The exhaust was still high even after releasing the center hanger. Fishing the bolts was fairly easy. I suggest two people for the initial placement of the hitch. I hung the hitch loosely by the center tow ring, then pulled fish wires through holes on the hitch mounting plates. While my wife helped hold the hitch in place I got the first nuts started on one side then the other. Torque wrench was tough to use in limited space. Foot actuation of tailgate works, just off to one side.

Foot actuation of the tailgate works marginally. I use the key fob most of the time

  • Is Fascia Trimming Needed For Draw-Tite Hitch on 2019 Honda CR-V
While I can't answer for why everyone says fascia needs to be trimmed, you're correct that for your 2019 Honda CR-V, you do not need to trim the fascia on two specific Draw-Tite hitches, which are the following parts: - 2" Hitch: Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76128 - 1-1/4" Hitch: Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 36597 Please note these do not fit the hybrid models of CR-V, but otherwise, if you want to avoid fascia trimming, this is the way. Both of the Draw Tite hitches that fit your 2017 Honda CR-V have the same powder coat finish that helps to fight corrosion. It is my understanding that the Honda hitch crosstube goes straight across and isn't a V-shape like the Draw-Tite hitch # 36597. The design difference allows the Draw-Tite hitch to work with the hands-free liftgate sensor on the 2017 Honda CR-V. • Choosing Between 1-1/4-Inch Class II & 2-Inch Class III Trailer Hitch for 2017 Honda CR-V
In general there are more products made for the 2-inch Class III hitch type than for the 1-1/4-inch Class II. Some bike racks and other hitch-mount accessories such as cargo carriers can work with both hitch sizes but many are intended for one or the other. • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Trailer Wiring for 2017 Honda CR-V Touring
The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4" # 36597 is a confirmed fit for your 2017 CR-V Touring. • Recommended Draw-Tite Hitch for 2017 Honda CR-V That Works With Hands Free Liftgate
Yes, the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 36597 is a fit for a 2017 Honda CR-V and it has a 1-1/4" receiver tube opening. These options both allow the hands free liftgate feature to remain operational but you'll be limited to areas away from the receiver tube.

  • Available Trailer Hitches for 2017 Honda CR-V EX-L
We have both 1-1/4-inch Class II and 2-inch Class III trailer hitches confirmed to fit the 2017 Honda CR-V. All offer no-drill installation and you can see them on the linked page. These hitches have trailer weight capacities of either 3500-lbs or 4500-lbs. We generally recommend using a 2-inch hitch rather than a 1-1/4-inch hitch since there are many more available accessories for the larger size and in most cases you get higher capacity for not much more cost. Even if you don't need...
