Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Installation - 2015 Audi Q7

Today on our 2015 Audi Q7, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Draw Tite Class 3 custom fit trailer hitch receiver, part number 75950. So here's what out hitch is going to look like once we have it installed. The cross tube is going to be completely hidden behind the rear bumper and all we're going to see is that receiver tube sticking out.Our receiver tube is going to be pretty close to being flush with our rear bumper, so we're not going to have to worry about hitting our leg when we walk behind our Audi. It is a Class 3 hitch, which means it's going to give us that 2 inch by 2 inch receiver tube opening. We're going to have a wide variety of options for any kind of accessory we want to mount up.Now the way we're going to mount any of our accessories is through the hitch pin hole here towards the front of our Audi. It's going to use a standard 5 ace pin and clip.

Now these aren't included in the kit, but you can pick them up here at e-trailer.com. The secondary hole toward the receiver tube opening is going to be exclusively for the j pin stabilization device, which is going to be nice if any of your accessories don't have a built in anti-rattle. It will keep that shake and play and nosier coming from the receiver tube down. Our safety chain connection points are going to be welded to the side of our receiver tube and hang down. As you can see, we're not going to have too much trouble getting most sized hooks on or off and since they're on the side and be.low the receiver tube, we're bot going to have to worry about any kind of interference with the hitch pin or a locking device. As far as weight capacity, our hitch is going to have a 750 pound towing weight which going to be the maximum downward force at the receiver tube along with a 7,500 pound gross trailer weight rating.

That's the amount it can pull including the trailer and everything you have loaded on it. But with all those number in mind, you should double check your Audi's owner's manual and never exceed the manufacturer's towing weight.Let's get a few measurements, and that's going to help you whenever you're looking at accessories for your new hitch such as a ball mount, a bike rack, or even a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper, it's going to be at about 3 1/2 inches. That's going to come in handy when you're looking at folding accessories to make sure you have enough clearance and that it's not going to come in contact with the rear bumper. From the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening, it's going to be right about 19 1/4 inches.

That measurement is going to help you out whenever you're looking at a ball mount to make sure you find the appropriate rise or drop to match up to your trailer. So now that we've seen what our hitch looks like and gone over some of the features, let's show you how to get it installed. To begin our installation, we are going to have to remove our rear fascia, so you want to make sure that you have your hatch open. On the inside of our wheel just right behind our tire, we're going to have several fasteners that are holding it in place. You're going to want to get a T-25 torques bit and we can pull those four screws out. With those four fasteners removed, we'll grab our wheel well liner.

We'll pull it back and we're going to have another fastener that's going to be close to where our fender meets the fascia here. We'll take that T-25 torques bit again and pull it out.Now keep in mind everything we do to one side, we're going to do to the other side as well. Now at the very back, bottom of our bumper here, you may have a panel in place. There's going to be two spots. We're going to have two bolts holding it in place. If yours is there, you're going to want to take an 8 mm socket and pull both of those bolts out and pull that panel out.Along the very edge here, we're going to have several more of these T-25 torques bits that we're going to have to pull out.Now we're going to move to the inside of our hatch. We're going to need to pull out the floor covering and we'll just set it forward for now. We're going to have to pull out the tray that's right above our spare tire. At the back area, right against the threshold, we're going to have this oval hole on either side of our vehicle. Inside of there, recessed back is going to be two studs that have a nut on them. We're going to have to remove the nut. So if you get an extension and a deep well 10 mm socket, we can pull them out.You want to be extra careful not to drop the nut once you have it removed. Now if you're having trouble getting the nut to come off the stud completely, grab a magnet and pull it out, because only part of the stud is going to be threaded, so it is going to be a little bit difficult to have it draw it all the way out. With all the hardware removed, we're going to start at the corner where our fascia meets the fender at the wheel well, and we're going to start peeling away. There's going to be some clips holding it in place. Now before you pull your fascia too far way, keep in mind there are going to be some electrical connectors behind the bumper here. Once you get to the kind of the corner here, you're just going to lift up, and pull out. The fascia will be easier to remove. Now the connectors are going to be towards the passenger side. We're going to have a total of three of them here. You're just going to want to pull that little tab out and you can disconnect the connector. We'll set our fascia aside where it won't get damaged.Behind the fascia we're going to have our metal bumper beam and each side is going to be held in by a total of four bolts. We're going to need to pull those off and pull the bumper beam off. So you're going to grab an 18 mm socket, and we'll pull the bolts out. Then we'll pull the last bolt out, make sure you have a firm grip on your bumper beam, because you don't want it to fall. We're going to remove it from the vehicle. Now with an extra set of hands, we're going to lift our hitch up and the holes on the end are going to line up with the holes that we took our bumper beam out of. We'll take the factory bolts, we're going to make sure to get at least one in on each side, that way it will help to hold the weight of the hitch up so we can get the rest of our hardware in place. So with he hitch in place and all of the hardware in, we'll come back with an 18 mm socket and we're going to snug up all the bolts. So now we'll come back with that same socket and torque wrench, and we're going to torque all of our hardware down to the specified amount in the instructions. With an extra set of hands, we'll get ready to put our fascia back in place, but before we do, you want to make sure that you plug in all the connectors. Whenever we go to put our fascia back in, you want to make sure those studs line up. And we can make sure the hitch fits around the opening and just start sliding everything back in place, pushing all the clips back in as well. Now a quick tip is when you take your bolts, you'll see that it is going to be a little loose inside the socket just because it has to fit on there. We don't want to drop these down in that bumper, so what we can do is take a piece of paper towel and put it inside the socket and it will hold that a lot better so we don't have to worry about dropping it. We can at least get it started. That will finish up your look at the Draw Tite Class 3 Custom Fit Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 75950 on our 2015 Audi Q7.

Easy to install. Took about an hour and half. Main issue was the 4 bolts holding the bumper on my vehicle. 2009 Audi Q7. 418022

Excellent product; very robust, fits perfectly, high quality finish. Sadly, I did not take any photographs of the install process as I was in a hurry. I had this shipped to a family member, whom we visited for all of maybe three hours in the middle of a long trip. I arrived at about 1:30 in the afternoon after driving around 2,500 miles from Texas, swapped out tires, installed this hitch, assembled a cargo tray (hitch-mounted), loaded everything up, and was gone by 4:30 for another 2,500 miles to Alaska. Instructions were a little iffy, but the internet is a great resource. Once I was finally able to get the bumper shell off, the rest of the process was fast. I have used this to haul a large enclosed trailer, car hauler, recover vehicles, you name it.... and that is all just in the first year! Looking forward to continued use. 478334

Product is great! I installed it just about 25 months ago, and it is still working as expected. Primary use in the last year limited to accessory attachments cargo tray, bicycle carrier and vehicle recovery, but it excels at both.

I installed the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver on my 2013 Audi Q7. It was a perfect fit, no need to cut any part of the bumper cover as the Q7 has a removable cover intended for hitches and this one perfectly. It looks like a factory install. 445147

2015 Audi Q7

I received the hitch within 3 days of ordering with the free shipping. The install was fairly easy but took me just over 2 hours as compared to the 1.5. Mine was installed on a 2015 Audi Q7. Originally this was designed for the Porsche & VW. All are the same with minor changes to the body so the instructions vary a little from model to model. Unfortunately for me all of the pictures in the installation instructions were for the VW and Porsche. So for anyone looking to buy one for the Audi Q7 I have included a few install pics to make your job easier. For the second step to remove the screws just behind the tires I recommend using a Torq bit with a mini ratchet so you have plenty of room. As for the 3rd step, just before removing the body panel, you will need to find the 2 nuts on each side of the vehicle located on the inside just behind the spare tire. Look in the oval holes in the sheet metal(see my pics). You should see the two long screws in each hole. I reccommend using double sided tape on the inside of the socket so you don't drop the nuts in the panel. To save additional time you don't need to disconnect the wires to the panel. Just set in down lightly right next to the vehicle. After you have replaced the bumper with this hitch and the body panel, you can cut out the small panel just around the hitch to get a tight fit and make it look like it was factory installed. Overall I think this is an excellent hitch and the price is right. 570616

2014 Audi Q7

We were quoted $2,200 - $2,500 for the Audi dealership to install a hitch for my 2014 Audi Q7. I was horrified! Started doing some research and discovered etrailer. I watched a video on their website and thought, "I can do this!" So I ordered the hitch and the following weekend I installed it with the help of my husband - you definitely need some arm strength. He also ordered the appropriate tools ahead of time. We did it in about 2 hours. So thrilled!!! 718905

Review from a similar Draw-Tite MaxFrame 75950 in Trailer Hitch

Gave this one a strong 3 stars. Haven't installed it yet but, seriously think my kids could install it if I just supervise. Pros: Great price for all hardware and instruction videos included. Quick delivery Cons: Packing needs to be better. The hitch busted through the box because it moved around too much in the box. All hardware was still in the box but, the hitch has paint chipped off and a scar on the metal. Not a huge deal since this will be hidden under the vehicle. If the paint was chipped on exposed metal I would return it. 475977

Review from a similar Draw-Tite MaxFrame 75950 in Trailer Hitch

It took me longer to locate all my tools than to install this trailer hitch on my 2015 Range Rover Evoque Dynamic. For me, it was a one-person job and took a leisurely hour with my handyman mechanic skills. For this year of the Dynamic trim no cutting of the plastic bumper fascia was required. Minor trimming of the inner aluminum heat shield was necessary as described in the instructions. I purchased the Draw-Tite tow bar because of the higher haul rating. It exceeds the load capabilities of the vehicle, but it's beefier and I like that. There is also no requirement to use support straps on non-trailer loads as with the Curt model. 519258

Review from a similar Draw-Tite MaxFrame 75950 in Trailer Hitch

etrailer.com pricing, order fulfillment, installation support, and customer service are excellent! The Draw-Tite 75227 is a very robust product with perfect fitment and good concealment. Welds and powder coating are flawless. The installation on my Range Rover Evoque was quick and painless with the help of etrailer's vehicle specific installation video and Draw-Tite's printed instructions both of which are top notch. However, Draw-Tite (not etrailer) has some QA issues at their factory. These issues DO NOT AFFECT HITCH QUALITY but do cause inconvenience and delay. I bought my first 75227 from a different vendor because of my Prime 2 day delivery, and while the bar code labels on both the shipping container and hitch listed the correct PN 75227, the hitch was actually PN 76227. I returned it for a full refund and bought a replacement from etrailer who was was a few dollars cheaper and also saved me $13 in sales tax. The etrailer hitch was the correct one, but what were supposed to be three M12 1.75 x 40 CL8.8 4 mounting bolts were actually carriage bolts of a similar size which could not be used. I notified etrailer and they responded immediately with an offer to ship the correct hardware, but it was faster for me to purchase them at a local hardware store which I did for under $10. etrailer immediately responded by issuing my PayPal account a $10 credit even though I told them it wasn't necessary. I contacted Draw-Tite to inform them of their issues so hopefully they have worked with their factory to correct the QA problems. Anyway, I've now used the hitch for two weekend getaways towing my High Camp teardrop trailer and am completely satisfied with the hitch. 629749

  • Should a Weight Distribution System be Used with a 2016 Volkswagen Touareg
We recommend using some sort of sway control if the trailer you're towing weighs at least 50 percent of what the tow vehicle weighs or if you're experiencing any sway or sagging. Since the Touareg's owner's manual says to not use a weight distribution system then you shouldn't use one. Instead to control sway use a friction sway control bar like the Reese part # 83660. It's not considered "weight distributing" or "load equalizing" at all. It just uses friction to fight the trailer's...

  • Trailer Hitch, Wiring and Brake Controller for 2013 Audi Q7 TDI Without Tow Package
For the 2013 Audi Q7 I recommend the Draw-Tite 2-inch hitch # 75950 which offers no-drill installation. For ball mount and hitch ball flexibility you can use the multi-part kit # 989900 that includes two sizes of hitch ball (1-7/8-inch and 2-inch) and two ball mounts, along with pins and clips. For wiring and a brake controller you'll need to start with a 4-pole harness # 119190KIT and then convert that to the 7-way format using brake controller installation kit # ETBC7L. Then for a...

  • Recommended 4-Way and 7-Way Connectors for a 2015 Audi Q7
If you don't already have a 4-Way on your 2015 Audi Q7 then I recommend installing the Curt # C59236. Once you have a 4-Way for the basic trailer light wiring you then need to install the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. This comes with all of the wiring and connectors that you need so that you have fully functioning 4-Way and 7-Way connectors. The ETBC7 kit comes with a mounting bracket that will match up perfectly with the mounting bracket on your Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 75950. We...

  • Does Fascia have to be Trimmed to Install Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch on a 2015 Porsche Cayenne
If you look through the instructions for Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75950 for your 2015 Porsche Cayenne, which I have linked for you below, it states that fascia trimming is required on the VW Touareg (which also uses this hitch) but not on the Cayenne or the Audi Q7. Draw-Tite does not have a stabilization strap requirement like Curt so you do not have to use one with this hitch. You can if you want, # 18050, but Draw-Tite did not make it a requirement.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2016 Porsche Cayenne Hybrid
We sure do! For a trailer hitch that will work perfectly on your 2016 Porsche Cayenne Hybrid I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III # 75950. This particular hitch features a sleek hidden-crosstube design that allows only the 2 inch receiver to be visible behind the vehicle, maintaining a nice factory appearance. The custom eliminate the need for any drilling during installation but you will need to trim some of the bumper fascia to allow for a proper fit. I have attached the written...

  • Trailer Hitch Receiver to Carry Bikes on a 2016 Porsche Cayenne Turbo
All of the hitch receivers we carry are designed for towing but can be used with a bike rack or cargo carrier. For your 2016 Porsche Cayenne Turbo I recommend the Draw-Tite # 75950. I've linked the install details of the hitch on your Porsche and it does require removing the bumper beam. The hitch will replace the bumper beam once it's installed. The bumper fascia will also need to be removed and reinstalled. It's a Class III, 2 inch hitch receiver which will allow for plenty of...

  • Does Draw Tite Hitch for 2017 Porsce Cayenne Have Deep Enough Hitch Pin for Carrying Bike Rack
Sounds like you are concerned about the depth of the pin hole of the Draw Tite hitch part # 75950 to make sure it's going to fit your bike rack. I can assure you that the depth of the pin hole on this hitch will allow it to work great with any bike rack designed for 2 inch hitches. The shallow hitch pin issue that prevents bike racks from installing in hitches is related to Subaru OEM 1-1/4 inch hitches. Draw Tite does a really good job making sure their hitches work with all standard hitch...
