Easy Hookup with Long, Self-Aligning Arms

Blue Ox Avail Self-Aligning Arms

The Avail's convenient, self-centering arms help to make hookup a snap. Older and more economical tow bars have rigid arms that are essentially locked in place so you have to drive your towed vehicle into the exact position necessary for hookup. But with the Avail, you can connect from the approximate towing position quickly and easily. Once you have connected the tow bar to your vehicle's base plates, simply drive your RV forward until the tow bar arms fully extend and lock in place. Before hitting the road, be sure to check that the arms are properly latched to avoid damage to your towing setup.

The Avail's arms are also longer than the arms on the average tow bar. As a result, they provide an improved turning radius, making it easy to maneuver around obstacles and execute sharp turns.

Non-Binding for Simple Disconnect

Blue Ox Avail Non-Binding Tow Arms

Being unable to unhook your car because of a bind in the tow bar is really frustrating. And the tight spots and uneven terrain at some campsites can put your tow bar into a bind, even if you're careful.

Fortunately, Blue Ox has defeated the age-old problem of binding by creating a tow bar that is just as easy to release as it is to hook up. Simply press down the handles on the tow bar arms until the internal latch disengages. By releasing some of the static pressure from the tow bar, you can move the arms just enough to make disconnecting your car a snap, even if it's not perfectly lined up with your RV.

Sturdy, Dependable Triple-Lug Connection

Blue Ox Avail Triple-Lug Connection

The Blue Ox base plates on your vehicle are equipped with two tabs each that connect to the brackets on the ends of these tow bar arms. The triple-lug design of the Avail tow bar creates a tight, stable connection by surrounding both base plate lugs. The result is a sturdy, reinforced connection that is strong and rigid for a safe, dependable towing experience.

Hooking up the Avail to your base plates is as simple as it is secure. Just line up the triple-lug end of the tow bar arm with the base plate so that the center lug is positioned between the two tabs of the base plate. Then insert the 1/2" keeper pin through all of the lugs and secure it with the included quick pin.

Heavy-Duty, Vinyl-Coated Safety Cables Included

Blue Ox Avail Safety Cables

The vinyl-coated safety cables, which have a 10,000-lb weight rating, provide added protection should the tow bar ever disconnect during towing. Steel hooks with spring-loaded latches connect each cable to your towed vehicle's base plates and to your motorhome's trailer hitch.

Simple Storage

Blue Ox Avail Easy Storage

The Avail can be easily stored on your RV when it's not in use. Once the arms are disconnected from the base plate, just fold them together so they are side by side. Then swing the arms toward your RV, sliding the integrated pin into the bracket located on the shank of the tow bar to secure it in place. Finally, push the arms down so they are parallel with your RV's bumper.

Guide to Flat Towing

Flat towing your vehicle is much more convenient than using a trailer or a tow dolly. These other options take up much more storage space, leaving you less room both at home and at the campsite. In addition, securing your vehicle to a trailer or tow dolly can be a hassle and more time consuming than hooking up with a tow bar.

There are 5 basic components needed when flat towing a vehicle: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a supplemental braking system.

Towing Basics

The tow bar links your towed car to your motorhome. It attaches to the custom-fit base plates that install on the frame of your towed car. Safety cables ensure that your towed car does not separate from your motorhome in the event that your tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring allows your towed vehicle's signal lights to sync up with your motorhome's tail lights, which is required by law in most states. Finally, the supplemental braking system - also required in most states - brakes your towed car when the brakes in your motorhome are activated, preventing wear on the motorhome and decreasing braking distance for your entire setup.

worked as advertised, installation is the same labor as other tow bars. The Avail tow bar is sturdy and able to tow my 7K lbs vehicle.

by:

Excellent product! Used to pull my 2020 Jeep 4 Door Wrangler. This is actually my second one. First one was totaled in an accident, but I was so impressed with the first one that I purchased the same one as a replacement. Well made and very heavy duty. Easy to hook up to my toad which uses a Blue Ox base plate. 10k capacity gives me the peace of mind when pulling my Jeep and the option to pull my F350.

by:

The install was fairly straightforward and took maybe 5 hours. If you are used to auto work and removing body panels you can probably cut that time in half. Also, make sure you have good drill bits to get through the frame! No problems at all with the base plate after installation.

by:

I have purchased from your website before and felt comfortable placing an order for over $1000 with e trailer. Your communication and order tracking was again top notch. My friends also use e trailer regularly. Delivery time was better than expected

by:

I’ve towed a Jeep jl 4 door lifted with 37 inch tires from Ga to western states twice with the hitch and to the beach once. I have zero complaints. It’s a great hitch. I would highly recommend it. I would choose it over the one built out aluminum.

by:

Replaced an older Blue Ox with this one. This one is a big improvement and it never gets gets jammed up such that the hitch pin is difficult to remove. Highly recommended! One note: you may need to use a drop hitch receiver to get the tow bar arms as close to parallel to the ground as they are supposed to be. Read the instructions and do some measuring to stay safe!

Comments
Still working perfectly! Much easier to use than the old style tow bar we had. This thing is very sturdy and very easy to use. Highly recommended!

by:

Love the Blue Ox tow bar, this is my 2nd Blue Ox tow bar, wouldn’t use any other brand! Highly recommend- easy to use and attach to RV and tow vehicle.

by:

This works well. It's larger than what I really need for the vehicle I'm towing but in case I would move up to a bigger tow I'm ready to go. Thanks

by:

Works as advertised and had to get an adapter to use the existing Roadmaster car hookup. The Roadmaster is awful. Bue Ox is way better. Etrailer knows their business.

by:

Products work great and received them p romptly.

by:

Good product. Works great. We use it every time we tow the car. No complaints. Would highly recommend it.
Also I was well pleased with the baseplate install that etrailer did on the Lincoln MKX in Wentzville when we purchased it 5 years ago. They did a great job.

by:

We don’t know we have not got it yet it’s at home that was supposed to be Shipped Sunday because we are gone for the weekend and now the packages are out in the open because the UPS driver did not put it on the cover which is only 8 feet more so it’s out on the weather until we get home Sunday so hopefully nobody comes and gets it or steals it shipped and it was supposed to be shipped Sunday not Thursday thanks but no thanks

by:

Just what I needed; a 10,000lb tow bar for my 2018 F150. Should work fine.

by:

What a breath of fresh air! Actual friendly, knowledgeable, fast and accurate help. Just what I needed. Great customer service from Bailey and the others at etrailer!

by:

Very easy to connect and disconnect.Works as advertised.

by:

I was about to rebuild my old Blue Ox Aventa tow bar when I saw a review of the Avail tow bar in Motorhome magazine. As advertised, the release handles work no matter whether you were traveling in a straight line (required for my old tow bar) or are partway through a turn.

Still no help when the car is facing uphill - it is impossible to pull the pins attaching the arms to the car - fixing that would be quite an accomplishment! For now, I will continue to avoid the situation or have my wife pull the car forward while I hold the release handles down.

Comments
It is still the best tow bar I have ever used. Just yesterday I was unhooking my Honda CRV that was still in the middle of a turn. The release required a little effort and when it released the car jumped about an inch showing the tremendous load on the bar and latch. My old Aventa would have required several blows from a heavy object to get it to release.

by:

The hitch is made from quality material and design for years of service. You can tell there was a lot of thought put into the design. It was easy to install and looks great.

by:

Great product, heavy duty and give since of security.

by:

Easy to order, answered all questions to be sure I had correct project. Attached videos for both wiring & base plate install. Both excellent & spot on making my work a no brainer.

by:

Perfect part , top quality parts Staff is very helpful thank you Tammie , quick delivery will be using etrailer again,

by:

Nice heavy duty tow bar. Installs easily. No wonder Blue Ox is the number one recommended tow bar.

Very happy with etrailer for the purchase of a Blue Ox tow bar with needed hook ups for lights, etc and an Air Force One Brake system for my 2018 F150. Crystal did a great job of comparing options and matching pricing from across the web. She offered free installation. The Installer, Shane was awesome, I wanted all hookups hidden by the front plate on the F150 when not towing, Shane came through and then some. Finally, the manager Robert was excellent on follow-up as we had some air leak once we got home. etrailer stood behind everything and follow was exceptional. Very pleased!

  • Solution for Blue Ox Tow Bar Arm that Wont Unlock
It definitely sounds like you have a damaged arm on your Blue Ox tow bar that needs to be replaced. The inner arm may be bent or the mechanism is damaged. Since you've tried everything to make it work your best option is to replace the arm. Since I don't know what tow bar you have the best option I have is to link you to a page that has all of the replacement arms we do carry for you to check out. Or you can let me know what tow bar you have and I'll see what you'd need.

  • Is All Terrain Style of Tow Bar Worth Extra Cost for Flat Towing
All terrain tow bars essentially are ones with telescoping arms and the ability to twist between the shank and the arms which basically allows the tow bar to more easily connect to a set of base plates. Otherwise you have to have the tow vehicle and the towed vehicle perfectly level and perfectly square to get the arms of the tow bar to connect. Even if you don't plan to tow to an off road area this style of tow bar across the board will be easier to use. The Blue Ox Alpha part # BX7420...

According to page 547 of the online owner's manual for your 2014 Jeep Wrangler, when flat towing with a tow bar, like the Blue Ox Avail # BX7420, the engine must be turned OFF but you must leave the ignition switch in the unlocked ACC position.
