Sturdy, Built-to-Last Tow Bar

Demco Built to Last Commander II

The Commander tow bar is tough and built to last. Sturdy, modular steel construction offers the strength you need to pull up to 6,000 lbs. Two hitch pin holes allow you to position the tow bar closer to or further from your RV, without sacrificing load capacity.

The black powder coat finish protects against the elements and flying road debris. And stainless steel inner arms provide additional durability and allow for smooth operation. Quality-engineered pivot points and hardware ensure both strength and maneuverability.

Demco Built to Last Commander II

Fast, Easy Hookup

Demco Fast Easy Hookup

With independent, easy-to-maneuver arms, the Commander makes connecting your towed vehicle to your motorhome a breeze. Unlike most tow bar arms that move together along a single plane, the Commander tow bar arms operate completely separately from one another. A vertical bolt through the head of the tow bar keeps the arms positioned one on top of the other, allowing for a more fluid hookup. The arms pivot horizontally on this bolt, allowing for an unlimited spread so that you can hook up to base plates with almost any spacing. A built-in joint at the base of each arm allows for vertical movement so that you don't have to tilt the entire head when positioning the arms.

The arms telescope for easy extension to your base plate connection points, even if your towed car is not perfectly aligned with your RV. The self-supporting design of the arms also allows you to telescope one arm out and attach it to the base plate without having to worry about supporting the opposite arm at the same time. The arms lock into place when you're ready to tow, and the extra length of the arms allows for a better turning radius. By putting more distance between your motorhome and your towed car, your entire setup will become easier to maneuver so that your towed car will track behind your motorhome without running the risk of hitting your RV during turns.

Non-Binding for Simple Disconnect

Demco Non Binding Arms

The built-in trigger releases make it easy to disconnect the Commander. Tension can build up in a telescoping arm when the RV and towed vehicle are not perfectly aligned. Engaging the trigger on each arm releases pressure and allows the arms to telescope freely, making it easy to disconnect the tow bar from the base plates, even if you are at a hard angle or out of level.

Each trigger release latch is positioned on the side of the tow bar arm. This allows for a comfortable yet firm grip, unlike latches that are positioned on the tops of tow bar arms, which can be difficult to grab. This out-of-the-way placement of the latches also creates a clean look for the tow bar.

Base Plate Compatibility

Excalibar II on Jeep Cherokee

Towing your vehicle behind your motorhome is simple and stress-free with the Commander, especially when paired with Demco custom-fit base plates (sold separately). Victory Series tow bars are designed specifically for use with Demco Classic and Demco Tabless base plates, which means they allow for easy hookup without the need for a bulky crossbar.

When using the Commander with Demco Classic base plates, simply place the lugs inside of the base plate brackets and use the included pins and clips to secure each arm in place. Demco Tabless base plates include brackets that mount on each tow bar arm, eliminating any protruding brackets from your vehicle and allowing for a quick, quarter-turn hookup of each arm.

If you have base plates from a different manufacturer on your towed car currently, an adapter may be available. Demco makes adapters for use with other manufacturer's base plates so that you don't have to go through the added hassle of replacing the connection points on your vehicle.

Type of Base Plate Use Adapter
Roadmaster Crossbar-Style (XL, EZ, EZ2, and EZ4 series) DM9523001
Roadmaster Direct-Connect (EZ5, MS, MX series) DM9523032

Reese Tow Champ and Valley Industries DM9523019
Blue Ox DM9523041

Straight, Vinyl-Coated Safety Cables Included

Demco Tow Bar Safety Cables

Two straight, vinyl-coated safety cables provide added protection should the tow bar ever disconnect during towing. The cables are held off the ground by the included mounting clips. These clips keep the cables from dragging on the ground, preventing damage and tangling. Steel S-hooks with spring-loaded latches connect each cable to your towed vehicle's base plates and to your motorhome's trailer hitch.

Demco Tow Bar Cable Storage Rod

The tow bar also offers a convenient storage rod for securing your coiled electrical cord (sold separately). The rod holds your power cord neatly out of the way and up off the ground.

Versatile, Secure Storage

Demco Tow Bar Storage Postions

Independent arm movement also allows for storage versatility. Easily store the tow bar out of the way, alongside your RV. The arms can be folded up to the right or to the left, or you can fold one arm to each side so that they are parallel to your motorhome's bumper. Just pivot each arm into position and a peg at the base of the arm will snap into a built-in tab, latching the arm in place so that you don't have to worry about it coming unfolded during travel.

For added protection, slip on the Demco tow bar cover (DM9523042 - sold separately) while the tow bar is folded up either to the left or the right against your RV.

Guide to Flat Towing

Flat towing your vehicle is much more convenient than using a trailer or a tow dolly. These other options take up much more storage space, leaving you less room both at home and at the campsite. In addition, securing your vehicle to a trailer or tow dolly can be a hassle and more time consuming than hooking up with a tow bar.

There are 5 basic components needed when flat towing a vehicle: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a supplemental braking system.

Towing Basics

The tow bar links your towed car to your motorhome. It attaches to the custom-fit base plates that install on the frame of your towed car. Safety cables ensure that your towed car does not separate from your motorhome in the event that your tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring allows your towed vehicle's signal lights to sync up with your motorhome's tail lights, which is required by law in most states. Finally, the supplemental braking system - also required in most states - brakes your towed car when the brakes in your motorhome are activated, preventing wear on the motorhome and decreasing braking distance for your entire setup.

We really like the Demco Commander II because it is so easy to use- not overly heavy or difficult to attach or connect to towed vehicle. We can use it both of our toads- 2012 Chev Colorado and 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. We've used other heavy tow bars that were difficult to connect and had intergral brake system that was hard to use as well. The Demco also folds easily out of the way, has a holder for the cables and the electrical cord. Very neat and easy.

We have used the Demco Commander for about 8000 miles with out any issues.

Works as expected, just wish I bought the cover to protect the tow bar when stored on the RV.

We do have the cover available. It is part # DM9523042

Solidly built. I paired this with a Demco Tabless Base Plate (DM9519336) on my 2021 Jeep Wrangler, pulled by my 2020 Winnebago View. Easy to connect and disconnect, and the self-supporting arms are a plus. The supplied 54" safety cables were too short, since I needed to add a 4" drop receiver. After testing in the parking lot with minimum turn radius, I've ordered the 64" cables. Bummed to buy a complete extra set of safety cables. (Demco does make short safety cable extensions, but they cost almost as much as the complete longer cables.)

Everything came in perfect condition. Chris was great, kept me informed right up through delivery. Highly recommend etrailer!

Over 3,000 miles on the tow bar and no problems whatsoever pulling a 2021 Ford Ranger. Great well built strong tow bar that I highly recommend. Demco makes great products and stands behind them.

Good product and excellent service with etrailer. I will certainly be returning when any requirement arises.

Wonderful, no issues !

This is great and easy to use. Instalation was easy. You can attach my Jeep Grand Cherokee in minutes. It is just as easy to disconnect.

Very happy with the easy process in ordering, tracking and hooking it up to my tow vehicle.

Haven’t used it yet . It’s still in the box . I rated it 5 stars because it’s box looks great and I know there’s something heavy in there . Now can I submit my review ?

I really like using the Demco non-binding tow bar. Hooking up is so much easier with it than our previous tow bar. No need to level and square up the toad with the motor home. I also like having the safety cables permanently attached to the bar.
We changed toad vehicles this year, so I bought a Demco base plate for our CRV. The tow bar shafts simply plug into the base plate. It couldn't get any easier.

Worked great, easy installation.
able to self install with step by step. Got my order in 3 days. Great job etrailer.

Love the Demco tow bar system! Installation was easy because of the videos on etrailer. Thanks!!

Works great, it was a challenge drilling the holes and installing the bolts for the brackets on my Jeep CJ7 bumper.

We can connect or disconnect the car in 5 minutes. WORKS REALLY WELL.

I usually don't take the time to write reviews. However, Vanessa was such a great help I felt others should know about her commitment to customer service. I was looking for a tow bar system to pull a 1978 Jeep CJ7 behind my motorhome. We talked threw all the options for my purchase and came up with the tow package that was the best fit for my needs. I will be installing the system next week.

Would buy again great product. Everything that I have purchased from etrailer have been great..

Love it, it works great

The tow bar system has been performing great. It is easy to hook up to my Ram 1500. Very pleased with the performance.
