Features to know about

Stay Level and Confident Under Load: Up to 1,000 lbs of Rear Suspension Support

Hauling heavy gear can make the rear of your vehicle sag, throwing off steering and braking. These SumoSprings Solo helper springs add up to 1,000 lbs of support at 50-percent compression to help keep your ride level and stable when towing or carrying a load. By sharing the work with your factory suspension, they help minimize squat, keep your headlights aimed correctly, and make driving feel steady even when the bed is full.

Smooth Out Rough Roads: Progressive Load Control

Not every trip needs heavy-duty stiffness. These microcellular urethane springs compress easily under lighter loads for soft engagement and a smoother ride, then firm up automatically as weight increases. They act like shock absorbers to dampen vibration and cushion bumps so you don’t feel every crack in the road. Whether you’re lightly loaded or pushing their full support range, the ride stays comfortable and controlled.

Stay Steady in Crosswinds and Turns: Independent Spring Action

When an off-center load or a tight turn tries to throw you around, these springs work independently on each side to keep your vehicle balanced. That helps cut down on sway and body roll through curves and crosswinds. The result is a planted, predictable feel even when carrying uneven cargo or backing into a sloped driveway.

Built Tough to Handle Real Work: Durable Microcellular Urethane

These springs are made from microcellular urethane that resists oil, salt, and UV damage while holding up in temperatures from -25 F to 200 F. They compress vertically with minimal side expansion so nearby components stay protected. There’s no air pressure to monitor or tubing to route—just a maintenance-free setup that performs season after season without fuss.

Simple Setup That Fits Right: No-Drill Installation

Installing these helper springs doesn’t require special tools or drilling into your frame. The custom-fit design mounts directly in place of the factory bump stops so you can get extra suspension support in an afternoon using basic tools. Once installed, they’re always ready to take on the next load without adjustments or upkeep.

Easy installation they took care of the squat with my car trailer loaded
by:
I installed these myself on a 2020 F150 XLT 4x4 in half an hour. There was no need for a jack or jack stands because the ride height of the stock suspension allowed just enough room. As you can see in the photos, the assembly is about 9” tall, the same distance between the frame and the axle. The ride height remained the same as before using the 1” spacer! The instructions did fail to mention that a 15mm socket is needed to tighten the new hardware.

I do have a concern about the shape of the spring at the axle being unlike the oem bump stop. Why couldn’t the spring have the same contour so that deflection would be minimized? I say this because of the very close proximity of the brake lines and wiring harness to the helper spring, especially on the driver’s side. It would be interesting to film the movement of the helper spring as this vehicle is driven over rough roads to see just how close it comes to the brake lines. I’m not completely satisfied in the design, so we’ll see how this goes.

2019 Ford F-150
Very easy to install. I had zero issues and it took me about 20 minutes. Pictures shown are a 2019 F-150 with max trailer package and zero weight in the bed. Test drive with no weight in the bed made the ride feel smoother and the back end was noticeably more muted when going over bumpy roads. Typical behavior without the sumo springs would have been a much bouncier ride.

Had these on for a year. They are an excellent addition when towing our camper. 5 stars

by:
Ford F-150
My F150 seemed to have super soft rear springs. After adding a topper, any payload made it squat. The Sumo Springs have really helped stop that from happening. I'd recommend them to anybody that ever plans on putting anything in/on the bed of their truck or towing a trailer. You get the performance of airbag overloads without having install an air compressor or plumbing.

2014 Toyota Tacoma
I installed these, this month, on 2 pickups. A 2005 Toyota Tacoma witha 6' bed so it properly supports a slide in bed camper built by Scout. The other pick up is a 2014 Ford F150 Super crew w/6' bed. These Sumo springs corrected the trailering issues I had with my rear end dipping or drooping evertime I hitched a large boat, my 18' utility trailer or even my 16' sled trailer. I installed these along with new rear shocks and now the truck rides level when loaded. Very very happy with the ride, yes it does bounce a tad more but I am fine with that part. The Tacoma bounces a bit more unloaded too but when the camper is in, ride is perfect and level. I would buy these again and are very easy to install.

On my previous truck I had airbags, which I replaced 1x due to leaking. In addition to extra effort when pulling my travel trailer I was looking for something more maintenance-free and found these SumoSprings. It only took a few minutes to install and I've used these SumoSprings throughout the summer and find them to be just what I was looking for, they're perfect for use with my trailer or when I have a heavier load in my truck - I highly recommend these.
by:
2019 Ford F-150
Easy install. 0 maintenance. Keeps my 19 f150 crew from sagging badly when I have a atv in the bed and a trailer on the hitch. Helps give a more controlled towing experience. Would purchase again.
The 1000lb were perfect for me. Ride quality unloaded or loaded is still great.
by:
Ford Flex
Better than I thought. Ride just fine, I'm over an inch off the leaf springs. I run a load dis hitch and the sumo springs are for back up. It's the leaf spring flex and body roll in cournering I wanted to minimize. Works as I wanted and saves my springs and shocks.
by:
Put these to the test shortly after install with 1in. Spacer on my 2-1/2in. Leveled 2020 F150 FX4. 20ft heavy duty dual axle trailer - on it,a Bobcat 4wd tractor, bucket, and leveling blade attached. Plus tools, sacks of topsoil and rock in bed of the truck and on trailer. Truck sagged a little off of level but handled it beautifully... Even on rough Louisiana roads! Definitely recommend these springs!
by:
2018 Ford F-150
I installed these on my 2018 F150 4x4. I did not use the 1" spacer, unloaded I have 1.25" gap between the axle and the Sumo spring. Unloaded I can notice the firmer rear suspension when hitting large bumps, but I can't tell a difference on small bumps. When towing a trailer this helped a lot to reduce the bouncing up and down in the rear that I used to get. I feel more in control when towing with these and I'm happy with them.

I have had sumo springs on my last truck and love them. You get the performance of air lifts without the air compressor and plumbing. Very easy to install and maintenance free. eTrailer delivered exactly what I ordered in 2 days. Excellent service!

1Yr later, still great!

They impressed me for what they can support and how the truck handles with them with a load on the trailer
by:
Easy to install and makes a big difference in how the truck rides when pulling our 5th wheel trailer.
by:
Ford F-150
I used the 1000lb Sumo spring in a 2020 f150. They work great for hauling a camper. They don't destroy the ride quality like a Timbren (I previously had these in the same truck)
by:
2019 Ford F-150
I have just installed the springs on my 2019 Ford F150 FX4 & immediately noticed a difference in ride quality. I haven't pulled my trailer yet but expect less rear sag & improved handling. Excellent product for price, ease of installation & improved handling.
by:
2020 Ford F-150
Easy installation and a very effective product. Fast shipping and priced reasonably. Highly recommend.
by:
Seems to be made well, final fit is good, took a minute to figure out mounting due to this item must fit a wide range of application.
by:
2010 Chevrolet Colorado
Item arrived in a timely manner and was easy to install. I have not had a chance to haul with it so I will update later

  • Recommended Suspension Enhancement for 2020 Ford F-150 with 1,500 Pound Trailer Tongue Weight
The 1,000 pound capacity SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-117-40 for 4 Wheel Drive and # SSR-116-40 for 2 Wheel Drive referenced in your question will offer a smoother empty ride in your 2020 Ford F-150 than a higher rated alternative spring. It is important though to keep in mind that any weight coming from behind the rear axle of your F-150 and from the trailer hitch itself should also be considered when choosing a suspension enhancement system, as this will be included to...

  • Best SumoSprings For 2020 Ford F-150 4WD For 5th Wheel Towing
The two SumoSprings you mentioned are the same but for their weight capacity of 1,000 lbs vs. 1,500 lbs; so for your 2020 Ford F-150 4WD that is towing a 5th wheel trailer the best option is definitely going to be the 1,500 lb spring: - SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-117-47 The reason is, since you have a hitch weight of over 1,300 lbs, you'll need the spring with the right amount of support, and the 1,000 lb option isn't quite enough as they will constantly be compressed...

  • Choosing Between the 1,000 Lb and 1,500 Lb SumoSprings for a 2019 Ford F-150 4x4
I recommend the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-117-47 instead of part # SSR-117-40 for your 2019 Ford F-150. In regards to the SumoSprings, you will always want to have a safety margin and the above will be perfect for your setup. The springs have a progressive load rate so the 1,500 model with 850+ lbs will have a smoother ride than the 1,000 lb model with 850+ lbs. In regards to unloaded ride quality, there should be no affect on this for the exception of going over...

  • Comparing Blue Vs. Black SumoSprings for a 2017 Ford F-150
The loaded tongue weight of the trailer will likely be over the 1,000 capacity of the blue SumpSprings part # SSR-117-40 so I recommend the black SumoSprings part # SSR-117-47 for a 2017 Ford F-150. The tongue weight capacity of the trailer (loaded) is the best way to choose between the two.

Timbren rear helper springs # TFR1504D for your 2012 Ford F-150 4x4 will definitely help with the sag you are experiencing when towing your Stealth toy hauler. But when not towing or carrying a load in the truck bed you will likely experience a stiffer ride, more jarring on bumps than the stock suspension. For a similar option that features a softer spring style we have SumoSprings # SSR-117-40 rated at 1,000 pounds, or # SSR-117-47 rated at 1,500 pounds. These springs will have more give...

  • Is The Spacer For RoadActive Suspension Still Needed With SumoSprings On 2015 Ford F-150?
You will not use the spacers included with the RoadActive Suspension Custom Leaf Spring Enhancement Kit # RAS3611-YHD if your 2015 Ford F-150 already has the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-117-40. The Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Air Springs # AL88385 are going to work better to stop the bouncing that you are experiencing in your 2017 Ford F-150 than the RoadActive Suspension Custom Leaf Spring Enhancement Kit # RAS3611-Y. Yes, they will! The SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs item # SSR-116-47 are compatible with the RAS system installed on your 2018 Ford F-150. Adding the helper springs will give you some additional support when it comes to sagging if you don't have your RAS system adjusted all the way. This will probably make for a smoother ride. • Best SumoSprings for 2018 Ford F-150 With Light Load
The SumoSprings I recommend for a light load on your 2018 Ford F-150 are the SumoSprings # SSR-117-40 because they work progressively to keep your vehicle level and give you a smoother ride . The SumoSprings are made of a microcellular urethane which compresses independently and has a 1,000 lb capacity which allows them to reduce body roll and sway as well as keep your truck level whether you are carrying a load of 1,000 lbs or 250 lbs. Hello Rick, Sounds like you’ve got your 2018 F-150 FX4 set up pretty well already—especially with the RoadActive Suspension and front leveling shocks. That’s a strong foundation for towing.
