An example of sag on a truck's rear axle under a heavy load. The Timbren Suspension Enhancement System levels the vehicle.

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in the cargo area or by pulling a trailer, you will often see the rear sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but more of the truck's weight, as well. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system has a custom-fit bracket that will be bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, one inch above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping the truck level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to the truck. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Compared to the Competition

Timbren's suspension enhancement systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Video Transcript for Timbren Vehicle Suspension - Rear Axle Suspension Enhancement - TFRTT1502D Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System. This is a custom fit part. This is designed to fit the 2004 and newer Ford F-150 trucks with stock height. On a custom fit part, I always like to recommend you go to our website and use your Fit Guide, put in your year and model of vehicle and it will show you if this will work on your application. This part will improve suspension, handling and safety on your vehicle. It does provide additional support, as needed, so you always have a nice, smooth, comfortable ride.

It allows the lead spring ample movement while cushioning light loads and it does not affect the empty ride of the vehicle. This spring will become more rigid as more weight is added. This will increase the stability, provides greater performance for hauling heavy loads, and helps reduce vehicle sag. They do work independently side to side, they help compensate for off center loads, which will reduce body roll and swerving in turning corners. They will also act as shock absorbers, taking the brunt of any bumps and rough roads and that will help extend the life of your vehicle's suspension. This part includes everything shown here, it includes the two Aeon hollow rubber springs, vehicle specific brackets, the spacers, and the installation hardware with a nice set of detailed instructions. This part does replace the axle bump stops on your frame and there is no drilling required.

Weight capacity on these are 7,000 pounds, but you just want to make sure you do not exceed your vehicle's weight carrying capacity. The other thing is these are designed to work with a suspension system that is in good working order. That should do it for the review on the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System.

Installed in about 30 minutes used a lift without any issues. Have towed my 32 travel trailer over 4000 miles and performs great. The truck is solid when under a load and no difference than stock when not.

I have a Half-Ton Jayco Eagle Lite 5th wheel. My brother installed Timbren SES on his truck and with his encouragement, I purchased a Timbren SES from eTrailer. It took only 20 minutes per side to install. Before Timbren, my truck suspension would lower 2-3 inches with the 5th wheel. After Timbren, my vehicle is perfectly level at all times, the ride is very smooth. I strongly recommend this product to anyone that needs to enhance their vehicles' rear suspension. A great product. My only regret is that I did not make this investment sooner!!! Frank P., Chattanooga, TN 133107

I have towed my 5th wheel several thousand miles over the past year since installing the Timbren SES purchased from eTrailer. Not only have I been very pleased with this product but have shared the plus features and good news of this product with many other half-ton towers.

Springs were EXTREMELY easy to install, no more than 30 minutes total. Pulled a rental camper up north and had some squat and sway issues, even with load distribution hitch. Great product, ordered these for my F-150 and was upgraded to express shipping. Received product in 4 days and took me a total of 20 minutes to install on both sides. Truck does not squat at all when it comes in contact with the springs now. Still have the smooth ride when not towing, towed my trailer with 4800lbs with no problem. Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

I am dealing with Timbren. The washer for mounting the rubber spring to the mounting plate clearance hole is too small for the bolt diameter. The washer is not something you can get out without damaging in my opinion. The bolt also will not thread completely into the mounting plate because of poor threads ( not tapped correctly). Galling of bolt if you try to tighten. Very poor QC or inspection at Timbren or wherever. Once again, working eith Timbren on this. Maybe you should check you kits at etrailer!! 704185

Comments

I pulled the kits we have in stock and they check out fine. The washer inside the spring had the same diameter as the spring for the bolt. Could you send in a photo of your kit?

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

I first put the Timbrens on the rear to help stop bouncing and porpoising on highways and bridge ends when towing. The rears have a gap and do not touch the springs until the truck is loaded, working great and keeping a smooth unloaded ride. The front Timbrens fit snugly and touch all the time. The ride is firm and a bit harsh with my unloaded truck having a snow plow spring option. When my trailer 30 ft trailer is hooked up, the front of the truck is slightly lighter. Towing with the Timbrens is nice and the bounce and rebound porpoising is very controlled. I would like the front Timbrens to be a little softer when the truck is unloaded, but I think these units are a nice add-on for better control, safety, and preventing damages. I had the fronts installed at the shop when rotating tires and a front end alignment. The rears installed easily. 691475

TOTALLY AWESOME PRODUCT.....Though I wished I had them when we trailered the hot rod out to New Hampshire last month. We received this item late as it was on back order for far too long. I did get a chance though to put the levelers through their paces when using our 18' lo-boy to haul large limbs, branches and other brush to compost site. The truck did NOT flinch and inch downward as it did WITHOUT the levelers. I liked too that the installation was basically pretty easy. I highly suggest going this way and leaving the air bags for the big truckers. Don't have to fuss with filling or deflating bags or dealing with leaky bags. This is a presto zippo installation and you can play "immediately". 550307

Comments

I couldnt be more happier with this product. Truck is still remaining relatively level, even with the hot rod in the enclosed trailer. Hot rod weighs in at 2200 pounds and nary a between truck and trailer. As in my earlier review, I HIGHLY recommend this product over air bags...so much LESS hassle .

this is the second set of Timbren springs I have purchased, the first set was on my Ford Raptor, they took all of the sag and sway out of pulling my boat. I have this set on my 2015 GMC Denali 2500HD, I pull a 42 ft. 5th wheel and the Timbren's take all of the sag and sway out, these are in my opinion the best product I have purchased for my truck. 683687

I put the Timbrens on a 1997 k2500 I haul 2 mobility scooters and travel trailer. With just the scooters and no Timbrens the truck set down about 3/4-1 inch so I installed mine with the 1/2 inch space left. With just scooters it rides firm but not harsh if on dirt road or hitting a hole you will know it with trailer attached it rides great no more rear end of truck bouncing up and down when going over a bridge. Also helps on truck lean when going in curves has been a great product for me 513079

Product came securely packaged and complete and quick. Took about 45 mins to install. I bought this to try to reduce the 3 1/2 inch sag at the hitch of my Lexus GX460. It did that well. I now only sag 2 inches that I feel is acceptable. The trailer has about 484 lbs weight. The ride doesn't seem affected and towing bounce(porpoising) is gone. Thank you etrailer. 560925

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

Working great. I had read reviews about them being too stiff whem you aren't pulling a trailer, but it seems like they softened up a bit after first putting them on. I felt a few hard jolts going over speed bumps and such the first few days, but now I don't notice them at all when I don't have a trailer attached. They are still improving the ride with a heavy trailer. I'd give 5 stars but my mechanic neighbor had to help me install them because there was something wrong with the bolts that came in the package. It was a year ago and I can't remember the details. Without him I think I could have returned them and gotten a fix and installed them by myself. It's a very simple install when all the parts are in good shape. 549083

After a 3000 mile trip with a 42' fifth wheel on a 2016 Chevrolet single rear wheel short bed 3500HD, I will say they made a difference. They took some of the bounce and the side to side rocking out of the truck. I would definitely put them on my next truck as well. 667565

I purchased a used pickup without any jounce bumpers. I ordered these to provide more support rather than going back with stock ones. I pull a 5th wheel and these keep the truck level with less bouncing around and bottoming out when towing. When I'm not towing they sit about an inch or inch and a half about the stops so they do not negatively impact the ride quality. They work as advertised and I'm pleased with them. 653123

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

I installed the front and rear Timbrens on my 2017 Georgetown GT5 class A. The installation was pretty easy, except for the tight areas getting the wrenches on the bolts. The front passenger side used the original bolt to install on my frame. Installation took about two hours to complete the front and back. It would be quicker if you use power tools, but I wasn't in any hurry. I've driven on two trips now with them, and they made a noticeable improvement on the rocking sideways back and forth. The motor home seems a lot more settled now with wind and traffic. 563687

Its been a year now owning the Timbrens on my RV. and they are holding up great and work great on stopping the rocking back and forth. I recommend them to anyone whos considering upgrading their suspension.

Product was purchased based on mechanics recommendation for a friends F250 being used to tow a thirty foot gooseneck 3 horse trailer with living quarters. I have installed and used the Timbrens on my 2015 F350 dually with my 5th wheel Keystone Fusion RV for a year now. i have to say that the Timrens are not only easy to install but make the ride of my truck excellent not only on the highway but back roads as well that includes very twisty turns. Timbrens keep my truck level and i don't have to ever worry about airbag air pressure. i have owned airbags before and never again will i ever buy or use them. When you don't have a load in the bed or your RV hooked up the Timbrens ride above then axles.. Best investment for towing period! 264475

I am impressed with the timkens. Got a 2009 GMC 2500 hd and Western 8.5' v plow. Nose dive was an understatement before. However I put a 2" leveling kit and installed the timkens at the same time. One of them made my truck ride horrible. Probably the leveling kit from the torsion bars being turned in. I do notice tho that empty going over a jarring bump you can feel the timkens hitting hard. But with a plow on the truck it is the way to go. After this winter I'm gonna take them off and put stok back on for the summer. It's one bolt to replace them install was a piece of cake. 592401

I installed these on my 2012 Ford F250 because I have two friends who have them on their trucks and they pull a travel trailer and a fifth wheel camper. I was impressed with the difference it made compared to my truck and camper Parked next to theirs'. I am mechanic and I see no reason why anyone would have trouble installing these them selves. Clean off the Nut and end of bolts before trying to loosen. Spray some WD-40 on the threads. Put on some gloves and use a 15mm wrench to loosen factory nut. Be sure to hold up on the factory bump stop because it has a line up pin that keeps it from turning as you loosen the nut. The driver side is a little more aggravating to get to because of wiring harness but there's plenty of room to use a wrench first then a 3/8" drive rachet and short extension with a good 6point 15mm standard depth socket will speed up removal. Then installing the new parts is a breeze. Just follow directions or etrailer videos on YouTube. Took longer to remove factory bump stomps than to install new ones. Maybe 45 mins total on original ones maybe. Then after preassembly of new ones, it took maybe 20 mins to install completely. Give yourself 1:30 hrs of time and enjoy your truck not sagging around town when loaded. 654107

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

They work great. When installed there is no gap below them as explained in the directions. I'm not sure if my springs have sagged or the product specs are off. However the load capacity and towing have been greatly increased on my 09 HHR. 249902

Do you have a question about this Vehicle Suspension?

  • Compatibility of Firestone Ride-Rite # F2525 Air Springs w/ Curt 5th Wheel Install Kit # C16300
  • According to my Firestone representative, the # F2525 kit you have is not compatible with a fifth wheel bracket kit. As you can see in the photo I've provided, the # F2525 attaches to the outboard side of the frame members, which is the same footprint where the fifth wheel brackets would install. There are two alternatives. The least expensive option would be the Timbren # TFRTT1502D which you didn't seem really thrilled about. The other option would be to remove your existing #...

  • Helper Springs for a 2014 Ford F-150 with Full Truck Bed and towing 7,000 Pound Trailer
  • Even with the bed on your 2014 Ford F-150 loaded and towing a 7,000 pound trailer the weight on the actual rear axle of the truck is still well under 6,000 pounds so going with the 6K rated Timbren springs, # TFR1504D for 4x4s or # TFR1502D for 2-wheel drive models will work well. The 7K kits are designed for severe service vehicles only.

  • Choosing Firestone or Timbren Suspension System for Towing 3-Horse Trailer
  • Given the choice between the Timbren system ( # TFRTT1502D for 2wd or # TFR150D for 4wd models) or the Firestone # F2350, I'd choose the Timbrens because although the springs won't have any effect on the vehicle ride when there isn't load being applied, they'll get progressively stiffer as more weight is added. The Timbrens have a 6K capacity, but you'll be limited by the payload capacity of your truck. The Firestone springs don't carry a weight capacity, per my contact at Firestone. If...

  • Timbren System or a Weight Distribution System for Towing a 6,000 lb Trailer
  • Adding a Timbren system like the part # TFRTT1502D definitely would help, but it would not be an adequate replacement for your weight distributions system. Your weight distribution system distributes the tongue weight of your trailer to your front axles as well which provides you with a much safer towing setup by improving braking and handling. A Timbren system is mainly designed for vehicles with that are carrying a heavy load in the bed of their truck. For trailering applications a...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation for 2014 Ford F-150 Short Bed
  • The 2014 Ford F-150 5.0 V8 will work for you to pull that trailer. Based on my research, the maximum towing capacity for the F-150 varies depending on the cab and bed styles. However, I found that even the cab and bed with the lowest maximum towing capacity for the 5.0L V8 with 3.55 rear axle will still pull up to 12,900 pounds, approximately 2,000 pounds more than your trailer's weight. Since the truck has a 6.5 foot bed, we strongly recommend using a sliding fifth wheel hitch because...

  • Should Suspension Be Enhanced On 2013 Ford F-150 With Weight Distribution To Reduce Sag
  • It sounds like the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution system you have installed may not be set up properly. If you are not exceeding the weight capacity of the system or vehicle, the system when set up correctly should take care of the squat you said you have. If the squat is caused by a heavy load in the back of your truck then the Timbren system would work well for you. I recommend part # TFRTT1502D. This provides additional support when weight is added to the back of the truck and does...

  • Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System Recommendation for 2015 Ford F-150 Stock Height
  • Thanks for the picture of your truck! Looks very clean! I can tell by the picture that you do not have a 4 inch lift and that you have the standard suspension height. That means that you would need the part # TFRTT1502D which would give you additional suspension support.

  • Weight Distribution System Recommendation for a 2013 Ford F-150 Towing 8500 lb Trailer
  • Actually for towing a trailer as heavy as yours I have a better solution than suspension enhancement. Instead you would want a weight distribution system. Not only will weight distribution help prevent rear suspension sag like the suspension enhancement, but it will also move part of the tongue weight of the trailer up to the front axle of the trailer which will help with braking and handling unlike suspension enhancement. The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base...

  • Use of Timbren Rear Suspension Kit on Flatbed Truck Carrying Heavy Loads
  • There are several Timbren rear-axle suspension helper spring kits for your 2006 F-150, shown on the linked page, that offer either 6000-lbs of combined load support or 7000-lbs of load support as with the kit # TFRTT1502D that you referenced. This specific kit is designed expressly for heavy-duty 2WD "severe service" vehicles like tow trucks and also vehicles that carry heavy loads. 4WD trucks use kit # TFRTT150D. I spoke to my technical contact at Timbren about your concern. He noted...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Sway After Installing Timbren Suspension Enhancement on 2015 Ford F-150
  • If you are getting constant sway on your trailer the solution is most likely to address the way the trailer is loaded. The persistent sway you are describing is almost always caused by not having enough trailer tongue weight. You need to have your tongue weight between 10 and 15 percent of the total trailer weight to be prevent the type of sway you are experiencing. Other possible issues is that the trailer isn't sitting level enough. You might have your trailer sitting nose high now...

  • Will Timbren Suspension Enhancement Help Improve Ride of 2006 Ford F-150 Towing 3,300 Pound Trailer
  • The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TFRTT1502D that you referenced will work well to help level the ride of your 2006 Ford F-150 while trailering a sealcoat machine. These jounce-style springs will provide additional support for your truck and take the brunt of bumps and rough roads. The # TFRTT1502D will not increase your F-150's carrying capacity, but will certainly help provide needed support for your vehicle while towing heavy loads.

  • Timbren Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for a 2010 Ford F-150 Towing a Horse Trailer
  • The Timbren suspension enhancement system # TFRTT1502D is designed for service vehicles (fire trucks, ambulances, utility trucks) but not regular trucks. For your 2010 Ford F-150 you would want to go with the 6K system # TFR1502D that you referenced. It will work well with your horse trailer. Even though the trailer is more than the 6K capacity of the system, the tongue weight of the trailer that pulls the truck down is much less so the system will be very effective. I have included a link...

  • Recommended Suspensin Enhancement For 2016 Ford F-150 Towing A Trailer And Dirt Bikes In Bed
  • Since you said the rear of your F-150 sags when the dirt bikes are in the bed I recommend using a Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System, part # TFR1502D if you have a 2-wheel drive truck with stock height. This system does not affect the ride of your truck when you are not towing but as more weight is added helps to cushion the load and provide additional support. No drilling is required for installation and it has a capacity of 6,000-lbs. This will not increase the weight capacity...

  • Will Timbren Helper Springs Fit a 2014 Ford F-150 with Front 2 Inch Leveling Kit
  • Yes, you can still use Timbren helper springs # TFRTT1502D on your 2014 Ford F-150 with a 2 inch front leveling kit installed. There will likely be little to no impact on the rear suspension travel meaning the Timbren springs will engage when they should. I have linked a video review of this kit for you.

  • Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 2013 Ford F-150 Towing Travel Trailer
  • Timbrens are great suspension enhancement options for reducing sag when towing, but the part # TFRTT1502D that you referenced is going to be too harsh as it is a designed for severe duty applications. The part # TUR100 is going to be best option. It will give you the support you want and won't give you a super harsh unloaded ride quality.

  • Will Timbren Suspension Enhancement System Work With Installed Fifth Wheel On 2014 Ford F-150
  • The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System, part # TFRTT1502D installs on the bottoms and inside of the frames. If you look at the installation of the fifth wheel on your F-150, you will be able to see if there would be interference. Installation of a suspension enhancement like # TFRTT1502D is intended to work with a system that is in good working order and will not increase the weight capacity of the vehicle.

  • What is Overall Height of Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TFRTT1502D
  • The total height of the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TFRTT1502D that you referenced when installed is 7-1/2 inches. This is the height of the of the kit from where it would attach to your truck frame down to the lowest point. This is also a confirmed fit for your 2013 Ford F-150 2WD short bed as well.
