Video Transcript for 2-5/16" Hitch Ball-C40007 Feature Review

What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out this CURT hitch ball. This is gonna be going on a ball mount platform, so you can hook up your coupler to it. Let's check it out. It's gonna be a two and 5/16-inch ball. It's gonna have an inch-thick shank diameter here, so you just drop that through the platform to attach it.

You got the lock nut and the regular nut right at the bottom. Now I'm just gonna do it hand-tighten right now. When you get this, you're gonna wanna make sure this is torqued to the specifications required. You can't just leave it loose in here and tow your trailer. You want to make sure it's really tight and torqued down before you hook up to go.

So we'll get this tightened down by hand. Now you can either do it this way or upside-down, depending on if you want to rise or drop. Either way, it's gonna work the same way. It's gonna have a weight capacity or a trailer weight rating of 10,000 pounds. It's gonna have a tongue weight rating of 1,000 pounds.

So just keep that in mind with what you're wanting to haul. Looking closer at the base here, you'll see these flat sides on the side of the ball. That's gonna be good for putting your wrench there. So when you go to torque down the bottom here, you can know you get a nice hold on it to get it really tight, to get to the specification you need to. It's gonna have a chrome-plated finish with a nickel alloy coating on the outside.

So when you leave it on the back of your vehicle all the time, the elements aren't gonna bother it. Overall, this is gonna be a good hitch ball to add to your ball mount. Just make sure that you get that shank diameter right so it's gonna fit in there, and check your trailer coupler to make sure you need that two and 5/16-inch ball. Well, here that does it. Thanks for hanging out and hope this helps.

  • Recommended Extended Ball Mount or Hitch Extender for Towing Boat Trailer
For your 2018 Tahoe and boat trailer needing a longer extension between them I recommend the Brophy Ball Mount for 2" Hitch - 3/4" Rise, 2" Drop - 13-1/4" Long - 10,000 lbs # BM20. Having a longer ball mount like this will not reduce the capacity of your hitch at all. This will give you a length of 13-1/4 inches from the center of the ball to the hitch pin hole. For a compatible hitch ball the shank needs to be 1 inch diameter for this mount. I recommend the 2 inch ball # 40038 or...

  • Is Gen-Y Glyder Shock Absorbing Ball Mount Overkill For Smaller Trailer
Hey Manny, Even with a smaller trailer, it is not overkill and you can absolutely benefit using the Gen-Y Glyder Shock Absorbing Ball Mount for 2" Hitches # 325-GH-12001. A trailer, regardless of size, is still going to be rigid, bounce, and affect the ride of your tow vehicle and the trailer. So adding some cushioning like you get with the Glyder is definitely a good idea, and something I recommend. So if you do decide to go with the ball mount you'll also need a hitch ball, either...

  • Will Fastway e2 or Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution Help Level Trailer With 330 lb Tongue Weight
It will; what is happening is the tongue weight is creating the "V" you mentioned, so you are not towing level, and a weight distribution system is exactly what you need. This will level you out, and for your 330 lb loaded tongue weight, you do have the correct Fastway system: - Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-0450 The # FA92-00-0450 will correct the "V" and ensure your Jayco is level, and even though you mentioned you didn't have sway on your last trip,...

  • Is 2 Inch Hitch Ball Okay to Use With 2-5/16 Inch Coupler
While I can sympathize with your issue, it is not safe to tow a trailer if you only have a 2" hitch ball and your trailer coupler is designed for a 2-5/16" hitch ball, even for a short distance; the insecure connection between hitch ball and coupler would pose a danger to others because of the risk of the trailer becoming uncoupled from the tow vehicle. The correct 2-5/16" hitch ball will depend on the shank diameter you need as well as capacity. Your ball mount will have a hole where...

When choosing a weight distribution system you wan't to find a system that is rated properly for your loaded tongue weight. You want the loaded tongue weight to fall in the center of the range that the weight distribution system spring bars are rated for. The Curt systems that you have mentioned part # C17499, part # C17500 and part # C17501 are all overrated for your tongue weight if it's 315 lbs loaded. Although the Curt systems are really great options there is not a system rated low...

To start with, the Westin Fey Diamondstep Rear Bumper # 20002-92230 will fit your 1997 Ford F-250 HD so long as it is a standard bed model. The Curt hitch # 14001 is also a fit for '97 F-250 HD's that have step bumpers such as the Westin (I've attached a photo which shows the hitch on a truck with a step bumper) and will work for you so long as you have the larger 37-3/4" frame and not a 34" frame. • Can Blue Ox Adjustable Drop Hitch Be Used to Tow Boat Trailer
Hey Ron, welcome back! The Blue Ox Adjustable Drop Hitch # BLU34TR is only for flat towing so it will not work with your boat trailer. What you can use instead is the Patriot Hitches 2" Adjustable Drop Hitch Adapter # PH38NR. This is fully adjustable with a max rise/drop of 11" and a 10,000 lb capacity just like the Blue Ox. Any big trips with your boat coming up this summer?

  • Ball Height for Pulling a 2016 Coachmen Clipper with a 2004 Honda Pilot
You want the trailer to be as level as possibel when towing. To figure out the correct rise or drop you need with your 2004 Honda Pilot measure from the ground to the inside top of the trailer hitches opening with the vehicle parked on level ground. Then measure from the ground to the underside of the trailer's coupler with it level as well. The difference between the two tells you how much of a rise (the trailer is higher than the vehicle) or a drop (the vehicle is higher than the trailer)...

  • Can a Front-Mount Hitch and Adapter be Used to Push a Trailer Into Tight Spots?
You certainly aren't alone having a bit of trouble backing up a long trailer. Using a front-mounted hitch is fine, but the Blue Ox adapter, # BX88132, is designed for flat-towing so it isn't going to work for you. What you can do instead is attach a fixed ball mount, and the Draw-Tite # 80248 is going to give you 9-3/4" of rise. Please keep in mind that the Draw-Tite has has a max gross towing weight (GTW) of 3,500 lbs and max tongue weight (TW) of 350 lbs in the rise position. If you...

  • Recommended Tow Dolly for 2007 Toyota Prius behind 2017 Toyota Sienna
The tongue weight of a tow dolly is minimal because it has the weight of the front of the tow vehicle across the axle. So you will have almost no tongue weight when using the Roadmaster Tow Dolly with Electric Brakes # RM-2050-1. You will simply need to account for the towing weight of the 545 lb # RM-2050-1 along with the 2,932 lbs curb weight of your 2007 Toyota Prius. It works with trailer's tongue weights up to 400 lbs. The Equal-i-zer item # EQ90-00-0400 has built in sway control that will keep your trailer in line with your Canyon when you're going down the highway and make a sudden lane change or get passed by a semi. • Recommended 2" Hitch Extension for a 4,000 lbs Trailer w/ a 500 lbs Tongue Weight
Hey Scott. I've got a solution for you but there's no hitch extender with those capabilities that's going to work with a standard 2" hitch. Plus an extender is going to cut your hitch's capacities in half. Instead, I recommend the Ball Mount 3/4" Rise or 2" Drop item # D-26. This ball mount extends out 12-5/8" from your tow vehicle's hitch pin hole. It has a 7,500 lbs capacity. This ball mount does not include a hitch ball. If you are looking for a standard hitch ball, we do have a 2-5/16" ball with a 1" shank like part # C40007 which has a 2-1/4" long shank. There is nothing with a 2" rise built into the ball though. With these, any desired rise/drop is achieved with the ball mount, not the ball. If you are looking for a gooseneck ball, we may...

The Curt Ball Mount part # C45270 that you referenced is a hollow shank accessory. It may seem counterintuitive but hollow shank accessories are actually stronger than solid ones and would be considerably lighter. This ball mount has a 7,500 lb trailer capacity and 750 tongue weight capacity. Based on the weight of your trailer this ball mount should work well. For a 2-5/16 inch ball to fit this you would want the part # C40007, for a pin and clip # F-4 or for a locking one part # e98880.
