Video Transcript for Curt 1-7/8 Inch Stainless Steel Hitch Ball Review

What's up, everybody out of here with Etrailer today, we're gonna be taking a look at the CURT Trailer Ball. When it comes to trailer balls, there's a couple of things we need to make sure of, to make sure it's gonna work. One, this is an 1-7/8 size, so make sure to check your coupler, make sure that it is the right size, and also keep in mind the weight that you're working with. It's gonna have a 2000 pound weight limit, and with that, that's just gonna make sure that the ball's in the right size, and it's gonna be able to handle some of the weight that you have on your trailer. And then another thing that really matters is the ball mount. So we are gonna have to pick one out, and one thing we need to make sure of is of course, we wanna pair it up with the weight rating of the ball to make sure that the ball mount is not gonna be limiting us at all, and also with the plate that amounts to, it needs to be in between 3-7/8 inch to 7-7/8 inch thick, anything more than that it's not gonna work, anything less isn't gonna work either.

The shank is about two and eight inches long, and the diameter is three quarters of an inch. With the diameter, that's just gonna be the hole on your ball mount, and we wanna make sure that that is the correct size, anything bigger than that there's gonna be a lot of play and anything smaller than that, it's just not gonna fit. With this, we really wanna piece this together kind of carefully just, to make sure everything's gonna be safe on the road. So once you figure out capacities, once you figure out the right size, and then of course just make sure that the ball mount works with it, you're pretty much ready to go. It's made of stainless steel, so it is gonna resist against that rust and corrosion pretty well.

If you we're to upgrade, there are some that are machined out of one piece of metal. So those are gonna be coated as well, so that is gonna be an upgraded version of this, but when it comes to trailer balls, it just gets the job done. Pretty much, that's all there really is to know about the CURT 1-7/8 trailer ball..

As expected, delivery was quick

Fits my Polaris perfectly and allow a level pull of my weed sprayer.

I'm so very glad I found etrailer, I purchased this hitch and a ball mount and was easily able to have it installed onto the car without the need to trim my vehicle's heat-shield. It looks as great as it is functional and adds a good bit of versatility to the vehicle as well as a nice cosmetic look when not in use. The hitch tucks nicely under the vehicle and supports weight well. I drive a Fiesta ST with already low clearance on the suspension, but am still able to tow a small trailer which is really nice to be able to do with a smaller vehicle. Excellent product and e-trailer was great to work with an answered any questions I had!

by:

Both the wiring harness and hitch receiver were very easy to put on. The hardest part was separating the wiring clips from the rear lights to put the new adapter in. You have to be kind of physical with it to get it apart. Then the new ones just snapped right in. 20 minute job. The hitch receiver went right on in the pre-drilled/threaded holes in the chassis. This was on a 2006 Toyota Corolla S.

by:

I got a Curt trailer hitch for my 2013 Civic Si. The product was delivered really fast and with everything as promised. The guys from etrailer included detailed step-by-step instructions for installation for my vehicle. I was able to install it by myself with one more person helping out. Very happy with my purchase.

by:

A good product! This is the second hitch I have installed using etrailer and it went as well as the first. Not being a super skilled Tech it took longer than expected, but for me it was a project that needed to be done, and I enjoy a good project when it comes together, no matter if it took a little longer due to an average person's tool inventory and simple jack stands and floor jacks. The instruction videos are the best I have seen as of yet. If you enjoy working with your hands, I recommend etrailer products!

by:

I keep this ball in the trunk of my car next to the spare tire when not in use. It has not corroded at all and looks brand new after 1 year. Mounting the ball is a cinch and only requires an adjustable wrench. No problems with the product so far.

by:

I highly recommend etrailer hitch and wiring harness They were both easy to install. The Prius pull the motorcycle camping trailer very well. You would not even know it was hooked to the car

by:

The hitch ball is a very solid product as well, but I think I ordered the wrong size for the trailer that I will be getting this Sunday. The trailer I will get has a 2" ball hitch.

by:

We ordered Class II drawbar and two hitch balls. We appreciated the completeness of the online website and the ease for placing the order. We are very satisfied with the high quality of the products and speed of receiving our order.

by:

Over priced. Found for $14 at local RV parts store. Good otherwise. It's a big piece of metal, what could go wrong. Unless you know what size you'll need get the 3500lb ball, more likely to be what you need.

by:

While visiting family in Brooklyn, N.Y. my trailer hitch was stolen. What can you expect it was Crookland, oops I mean Brooklyn. This was an exact replacement. Fast service, nothing bad to say all is good except my feelings for Brooklyn.

by:

Super helpful ordering my first trailer hitch you made it easy thank you so much!

by:

Here in Florida, we quickly learn the value of stainless hardware. This hitch ball should last until the end of time.

by:

Would have been nice to receive the tracking number sooner and the 3 day shipping actually took 5 days

by:

Looks like a high quality ball. Fit perfectly with the hitch from etrailer.

by:

Nice looking ball. Should it the bill for my pull behind motorcycle trailer.

by:

The only way that this install could have been any easier would be if somebody else did it for me. Very easy job even if you are not technical.

by:

The instructions worked well!

by:

Great product, but stainless washer and nut would have been nice.

by:

Arrived in great condition!
Shipped
faster then expected!
Great customer communication!
This item and eTrailer will get my repeat business!

by:

Fit like a glove. I bought a 6" extension for my standard ratchet set and had it on in 30 minutes. Towed my john boat the next day.

by:

Great product, good fit. Stainless is the only way to go.

Great! All componenents were installed in a 2015 Chevy Spark. Pulled a 4×8 U-haul trailer from Colorado Springs to South Florida and it managed without a problem.

  • What Size Hitch Ball Will Fit my 2002 Chevrolet S-10 Bumper Ball Hole
In order to make a proper selection for a hitch ball, you will need to find out what diameter size ball your trailer needs. It should be stamped on the trailer coupler or frame, either 1-7/8 or 2 inch. All bumper ball holes are 3/4 of an inch, so you will need to pick a ball with a 3/4 inch shank diameter. The ball you were looking at, part # A-82, is a 3/4 inch shank diameter and is a 2 inch diameter ball. If you need a 1-7/8 inch ball, you would use part # A-80. Those are our only stainless...

If you need a 2 inch ball, then # A-82 with a 3/4 inch shank will be compatible with the Sportframe drawbar. With there being 3 standard size balls used to tow a trailer, you can simply measure for 2 of them Those being a 2 inch coupler that attaches to something like the Curt 2" Hitch Ball - 1-1/4" Diameter x 2-5/8" Long Shank # A-90, or a 2-5/16 inch one that will attach to the 2-5/16" Hitch Ball - 1-1/4" Diameter x 2-5/8" Long Shank # A-6. There are only a handful of Euro style ball mounts and like you said none of them have the amount of rise you need to tow the trailer level with your 2016.5 Mazda CX-5. The best option is to go with the regular ball mount # C45014 and a properly sized ball for the trailer coupler. If the coupler takes a 1-7/8 inch ball use # A-80. For a 2 inch ball use # A-82.
