Are Spindle Washers Needed if the Trailer Axle Does Not Already have Them

Question:

I bought new hubs and brake assemblies for my trailer. The kit does not come with a spindle washer. I did not have one before, do I need one? The axle is a 2200 pound axle.

The 2,200 pound axles that I have seen all had a spindle washer. It is possible that your trailer didn't come with one but it is unlikely. The ends of your spindles are likely 1 inch in diameter since it is a 2,200 pound axle so you can use washer # SW1000. Spindle washers protect the castle nut as well as provide evenly distributed force when tightening the nut.
