Question:
I just replaced the hubs on my jon boat trailer using CE Smith 4 lug kit. 1250 lb capacity 4x4 bolt circle 5 9/16 OD flange with 1.98 hub ID. After installing the hubs there is excessive lateral movement in the hub. The king nut is tightened to the max. There were no washers under the king nut when i took the old hubs off. The old hubs were doing the same thing. This is a 1inch straight axle with the old bearings L44643R. It looks like the bearings are going just a little past the shoulder of the spindle therefore the king nut will not completely tighten the bearing. What is a solution to the problem? Thanks, Larry

There should be a washer of some type between the spindle nut and the bearing on your trailer. The washer protects the back side of the bearing from the edges and points on the back side of the spindle nut. This is probably why you have a bit of play on your hub.
There are several types of spindle washers available depending on the spindle configuration on your trailer.
The Washer For 1 inch Spindle, # SW1000, is typically used on spindles that have a castle nut, like # 165686, and a cotter pin, # 165649.
