PC-Rated Lights
A PC-rated light produces a 90-dgree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 180 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be clearly seen when you are standing directly in front of the light as well as when you are standing on either side of the light. When properly installed, this type of light can function as both a front clearance light and a side marker light or as a rear clearance light and side maker light.
Recessed-mount trailer lights install with a grommet, which is often sold separately. These lights extend past the trailer surface and require a hole for installation. If replacing a light, you can utilize the pre-existing hole. If installing a new light, you will need to cut a hole or use a mounting bracket (sold separately) to complete the installation.

Ellen: Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and we're going to be looking at the Piranha LED Trailer Clearance Marker and Side Marker Light. This is a red LED light to give your trailer a little bit clearer lighting while you're out on the road, makes it easier for other drivers to see what you're doing and see those lighting functions, so stays safe and also stays compliant with all DOT laws. The nice thing about an LED light over an incandescent light is that it's going to last longer. There's virtually no maintenance to worry about because there's no bulb to change with this, so it should last a really long time, give you a nice bright light. The other advantage is that it's also going to be as bright or brighter than a similar incandescent bulb, but have a lower power draw so we're not taxing our electrical system as much.
We're not draining down our battery as much. It's going to be able to produce that same amount of light or more, but use that less power.I can take a little closer look at it. As far as how to attach it to the wiring plug, it's going to accept an AMP plug or an A-M-P plug, which looks like this. This is going to plug in and create a watertight seal. This is sold separately.
You can find it as one of the related products on the page here at etrailer.com, the product page for this light. So it just snaps over like that, and then that gives us our two wires to connect to power and ground, so I'm going to go ahead and connect those to my setup. Ground, and my red wire goes to power. Ta-da. The light comes on.
Nice bright, red light. Turn out the lights in the studio. You get a better idea of that lighting pattern in the dark, so nice, bright light even for how small it is. It'll have those five diodes so one, two, three, four, five, going in that X pattern or cross pattern, and then one in the center as well. Now this is a PC rated light, which means that it casts that beam of light in 180 degrees around or a full semicircle going all the way around. So you can see it on either side just as well as you can right in front of it.
So you can use this as a clearance and a side marker light at the same time if you have it mounted properly so you don't have to get one light for clearance and for your side marker light, so it makes it a more versatile light in that respect.Turn our light back on, and now we can talk about measurements. This little guy, take our plug off, measures 2 1/2" in diameter from edge to edge, and then it's about 1 1/2" in depth. Going to the back of that plug, 1 1/2", maybe just a bit over that, and going from just the red lens, it's about 7/8" thick. There is a grommet that goes with this. It is also sold separately. You can again find that as a related product here at etrailer.com on the product page, so I'd highly suggest picking that up. This has a power draw at 12 volts of 0.14 amps. Operating voltage range goes from 9 volts up to 16 volts, so it works with 12-volt DC systems. It's made in the USA and does have a limited lifetime warranty.I hope this video's been helpful in deciding if this is going to be the right light for you. If not, we do have others available here at etrailer.com of different sizes, and we also have amber and clear lights as well. So check them out right here, and thanks for watching.
