Video Transcript for Wesbar 4-Pole Flat Connector with Jacketed Cable Review

Hey, everybody Adam here with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the west bar jacketed four pole trailer connection. So the one that we have right here is about 14 foot in length, but we're also gonna have a 10 foot, an eight foot and a four foot. It's all gonna have a 14 gauge wire on the inside. And the diameter of this jacket is gonna be about 0.4 of an inch. So now all of these trailer wearings come with jackets.

This is just gonna look a little bit cleaner, but it does have a nice little shape to it. So a little bit bigger down here. So whenever you are pulling it off, one, it gives you plenty of room to be able to wrap around it. And since it's a little bit bigger here, it's gonna be kind of easier to pull it out. If you want the easiest four-pole that is the easiest to disconnect from the other side, the Hopkins has an easy pole, which just has a little circle right here.

And that's probably gonna be the only one that's a little bit easier, but it does not come with this jacket. I really like the jacket just because it's gonna protect it and looks a lot easier. And since we're using a junction box, it makes for a really, really easy and clean connection. So if you follow us down, we basically go on the inside of this tube, all the way to our junction box which is right up here by the trailer. So we're gonna have four different wires that come in here cause it's a four pole.

So if you follow me, we'll so you exactly what it looks like in the junction box, just because I like the junction boxes, they're a little bit cleaner. And if you're adding six accessories and stuff like that, it'll make a nice clean spot to be able to know exactly where everything's going. So we have the jacketed side of our trailer connection going through our junction box and we're gonna have four different wires. So we're gonna have our yellow, which is gonna be our left turn signal and our brake lights. We're gonna have our green is gonna be right.

And our brake lights, we're gonna have white, which is gonna be our ground. And then we're gonna have our brown as well, which is just gonna be your running lights, your taillights and everything else like that, including your license plate lights. So all of these kind of go in here and if you do want to grab a junction box, we do have these here at etrailer. These are just pretty much the cleanest way to wire up your trailer. The only thing that I would add to this is just a little dust cover just because it's gonna be exposed. So if you don't have a great place to put it, I mean, some people just kind of hide it underneath here, but it's not gonna be protected. So there is a dust cover specifically for this and I do recommend that you get. So now that everything's good, it is really smart to check and make sure it works before you button everything up. So we just have a little test box here. This is gonna mimic hooking up to our vehicle. So now as you can see, we do have some lights and stuff turning on. So we have everything turned on, but we're gonna test the functions. So let's start with the right turn signal. Then we're gonna go to the left. And then we want to make sure that our brake lights are working, which everything is good. So once you go through all those checks, you can button everything up and we're pretty much done with the install. If you already have your trailer and it's not really that clean when it comes to wiring and you don't really plan on putting a junction box in, all you're really gonna need to do is just grab some 14 gauge wire and some heat shrink butt connectors. And I would get some loom and we also have some loom hangers. So you're gonna run all this all the way back on the underside of your trailer, if you get on the inside of the tube, great. But a tube doesn't really work that well because it's a lot of tube, it's a lot of wire to fish through there. So you have everything that you need to hook up your trailer regardless of what kind of setup you plan on going for. Whether you go with the junction box or not, we're gonna have to run these wires back to our lights. And as you can see, we have a nice clean look. We got some loom, we got some holders. And then of course we got some lights. If you guys need lights, we've got those too, but the cleaner, the better when it comes to my trailer. So if you really want to make it nice and clean, we have everything you need to do that. All in all, I'm a fan of this one just because it has the thick little casing on the outside. And it just looks a little bit better, it matches my trailer. But if you are looking for one that's gonna be a little bit easier to pull apart, the Hopkins has one that just has a little circle on the inside, which we went over before. That one's gonna be a little bit easier, but this is pretty much checking all the boxes when it comes to trailer connections, and that is gonna do it for our look at the west bar jacketed four pole trailer connection..

Wesbar 4-Pole Flat Connector w/ Jacketed Cable - Trailer End - 8' Long - W787268

This 4-wire flat, trailer-end connector includes an 8' long, jacketed cable with stripped, color-coded, 14-gauge wires for easy installation.

by:

Really quality piece. Plenty of length to connect back to the rest of my utility trailer wiring that was still in good shape since it was in an area subject to far less abuse. Nothing worse than having to fix the corroded wires in between replacing the worn out plug every few years. This should give me years maintenance free service even with the toll winter takes.

by:

This is the 2nd one of these I have purchased. They are a good product (therefore the 2nd purchase) but have a few areas that could be improved.

1) In cold northern winters (MN -10 F), the cable gets very stiff, because of the lack of flex, my trailer connection pulled out when turning, dragged on the ground and ground down the plug.

2) the connection where the cable jacket meets the plug separated (again, due to cold weather?).

Even though I would prefer a more temperature-forgiving flexible cable, I believe this design is better than the other 4-flat trailer-end wiring harnesses currently available. I also purchased a Hopkins Endurance Quick-Fix Replacement 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector w LED Test Lights - Trailer End to as a quick fix to this cable to temporarily fix my trailer wiring until permanent repairs can be done.

by:

We get these from etrailer and use these all the time, they are great for any trailer and also very durable.

by:

8 feet of quality product. Thick gauge wiring and a stout connector.

by:

I wanted a cable like this one but could not find one at any of the local auto parts stores or on Amazon. I have used etrailer before because of the specialty trailer wiring products so ordered again. Great price, was shipped by priority mail. This cable is best because of the molded cable and plug, makes for a neat installation without having a bunch of individual wires as most trailer wiring kits have.

Perfect, ordered another one for a different trailer.

by:

Good heavy cable and plug. Haven't even installed the cord, as even out of the box, the cable jacket itself is pulling out of the plug. the cable sheath ends right about at the back of the plug, Other reviewers have complained about the same thing, sadly. I tried putting a bead of hot glue and/or epoxy around joint, but it didn't stick to the rubber. Had they molded the plug into the jacket of the cord with a little better strain relief, it would be an awesome product. Very hard to find a heavy duty flat-4, without exposed wires like this one, but they missed the point without having a molded in strain relief due to the weight of the cord/plug. I guess I will just splice on a new cheapy plug from the autoparts store every few years until I find something better.

by:

A quality plug. Jacketed cable a big improvement over having the 4 wires exposed. 8 feet of cable is plenty to attach under the trailer.

Plug and cable have held up well in the one year of use. Plenty of extra cable length to cover any installation. I will likely order another cable for the next trailer that I am working on.

by:

This piece was purchased along with the vehicle pigtail to replace, as both sides were corroding on the terminal ends and contact was intermittent. This jacketed cable is heavier than the standard 4 flat wire connector and I am hopeful it will provide longer service. I intend to employ your junction box inside the 'A' front of the trailer frame so a future servicing would be easier, if this cable is damaged.

by:

Excellent quality, well worth the money.

by:

This connector is exactly what I needed to rewire my 16' foot hydraulic brake trailer.
The 4-pole connector is molded into the wiring jacket.
Quality copper wire with thick rubber jacket for extra protection.
I am going to run this to a connector box and then run new jacketed wire to lights.
I am very pleased with this cable.

by:

The product was delivered on schedule and is exactly as described. The connector is high quality and connected to my vehicles connector nice and secure. There were no instructions included but the website has a couple videos explaining which wires control the signals, brakes, and side markers. A perfect replacement for the old worn out cable on my Bass Tracker trailer.

by:

WOW this one of the best things I have done for my trailer all the 4 wire connectors I have gotten wimpy this with the jacket on the wires I think will last for Years .
Very happy with the cost and shipping I will always go to e-trailer right away.

by:

Used this harness at the rear of my car hauler to disconnect lights when the ramps are moved in for smaller vehicles ( lights, back up lights, and plate, are mounted on ramps for safety and protection.
This harness is 14 gauge wire.

by:

I was tired of chasing electrical problems on my small utility trailer every time I wanted to use it. Some people run around small towns with trailer lights that do not work. I am not one of them. I used this molded lead and a previously purchased junction box (Trailer Wiring Junction Box Item # 38656) to resolve my problem. Ordering, service and shipping were fast and easy.

by:

Boy, I was sure getting tired of those four loose wires on my utility trailer harness always getting caught or pinched on something. I went looking for a solid well built harness and found this one. It's molded plug and round cable is just what I wanted.

by:

I have not installed the wiring harness but the quality is obviously very high. The items I ordered were delivered as promised and in great condition. I am planning to replace the original wiring on my snowmobile trailer with this product.

by:

Good quality product. Nice, thick protective sheathing/jacket & the molded connector is easy to grip. The only complaint is that the price seems quite high considering that other typical unsheathed flat-4 pigtails are less than 1/3 the cost of this one

by:

Good Heavy Duty Cabling that should survive the abuse that a trailer connector at the hitch A frame receives. Etrailer processed the order with their usual timely, efficient service. Great organization.

by:

The wiring harness I purchased was better then I was planning on. It exceeded my needs and worked perfectly.

Thank you for making my life easier.

James

by:

The heavy duty nature is excellent. the plug is easy to grip and extends out past the end of the spring loaded cover on my Ram truck. The flat ribbon type get pinched in the cover and the wires always break eventually. Trailers that get used every day have always had problems.

by:

Jacketed wire prevents standard 4 wire breaks, pinches, problems with age. Factory look. Much heavier than standard wire.

by:

Very well made trailer plug. No loose wires & very resistant to chaffing. If you use your trailer regularly or loan it to friends who haven't got a clue, you need to outfit it with the best.

by:

Good product and solved my trailer wiring issues etrailer was very helpful and delivery was quick

by:

The cable/connector is of high quality, I expect it will outlast the trailer itself. Great customer service and quick shipping.

by:

Received the connector plug along with a junction box, both high quality, especially the heavy duty connector, no more loose wires.
