Ordered 2 of the part number HM20041 but received 1 HM20046 and 1 of the correct number I ordered.
Lucky for me I have a good electrical knowledge and a good multimeter to sort the two out but would have been nice to have both trailers the same.

This wire is very easy to work with and splices nicely. Used in conjunction with a terminal box and a molded 7pin connector lead made my rewire a breeze. Spend a few extra dollars and buy heat shrink or heat shrink connectors and quality cable clamps.

by:

Already been installed and working great. Thank you for the quick shipment.

by:

Great buying experience and etrailer staff was very professional and helpful

by:

This molded 7-pin cable is well made, and making the connections to the new junction box was easy.

Great product quick shipping

Great upgrade from OEM, correct utility trailer wire coding, will work flawlessly when brakes are re-installed. Chelsea D was very knowledgeable
of the product a true asset to etrailer.

by:

Would have been nicer if it came with a wiring diagram. Fortunately for me, I was also adding in a junction box...and was able to search out a diagram on the web. The cord is just what you would expect. I paid more than what [online store] wanted, because I think they are too much like [department store].

This expert answer has wonderful diagrams in it:

This has been a good company to deal with. Quick shipping and good communication. I have not installed the item yet. It appears to be made of a different material but looks like it will work.

by:

Very solid and heavy construction. The casing around the wires seems like it will take many years of use.

by:

Products are great and customer service is even better.

by:

Great product. Nicely made and had enough extra grommets to accommodate my needs. Will be getting another for my other trailer too.

by:

Looks like a good solid cable but not installed yet. I like the finish of the connector pins and housing, they look serious.
I don't expect any surprises but will amend this review if needed.

by:

Every order from trailer has been perfect. Everything fits, everything works. Always fast delivery.

by:

Nice product

by:

Customer Service was the best I think I have had. Nick did a wonderful job. Also the shipping department also did a great job with packing the shipment. You can tell They way they packed everything and the customer service this is a company that takes pride in there work. And to find out it is a local Missouri company was just icing on the cake. This well made product is still performing as good as when it came out of the box.

by:

Very prompt...the videos were also helpful in selecting the correct color code combination for my trailer.

by:

I was very satisfied with my purchase. I was notified there was a problem with the shipment, and given the option to make changes. It arrived when I was told to expect it, well packaged, and exactly what I had ordered. Great company to work with!!

  • What Gauge Are Wires Of Hopkins 7-Way Blade Style Connector-Trailer End # HM20041?
The wires of the Hopkins 7-Way Blade Style Connector with Molded Cable - Trailer End - 8' Long - Auto Standard # HM20041 you were looking at are the following gauges. Yellow, Green, Brown, and Purple are 14 Gauge, the Blue wire is 12 Gauge, and the Black and White are 10 Gauge. I included a video of the # HM20041 for you to take a look at.

  • What Gauge Wires Does the Hopkins HM20041 Use?
I went through our 7 Way harnesses, but this will be the only one that follows SAE standards. I spoke to Hopkins as well and the ground (white) and auxiliary power (black) are 10 gauge. The electric brake (blue) is 12 gauge. The left turn (yellow), right turn (green), tail marker (brown), and back up (purple) are 14 gauge.

  • Helping Wire Up Trailer 7-Way with Non-Standard Color Codes
While there are two generally accepted color codes used on 7-ways both of them use the color blue for the brake output so you most likely have wiring that is just not a standard we can give you an easy answer for. That said it sounds like you have closer to the RV standard since you have a red wire. Normally that would go: Green for taillight Black for 12 volt power Brown for right turn/stop Blue for brake output from controller White for ground Red for left stop/turn Yellow for reverse...

  • Comparing Hopkins 8 Foot Long Trailer Side 7-Way Connectors
They are basically the same. Harness # HM20041 looks to be replacing H20046. The manufacturer no longer has a listing for the 20046 harness. Everything else is the same as far as length, wire gauge, and design.

Here is the wiring color codes for the 7-way part # HM20041 that you referenced: White: ground wire Yellow: left turn/brake light Green: right turn/brake light Brown: tail lights Purple: reverse lights Blue: electric brakes Black: auxiliary power This color code is normally referred to as (7-way traditional). I attached a picture that shows all of the styles of 7-way wiring for you to check out as well.

  • What are Wiring Colors of the 7-Way Trailer Wiring Plug # HM20041
Easiest way to explain the wiring colors of the Hopkins harness part # HM20041 is for me to just list what the wires color functions are as follows. White: ground wire Yellow: left turn/brake light Green: right turn/brake light Brown: tail lights Purple: reverse lights Blue: electric brakes Black: auxiliary power This matches the SAE standard colors like what you see in the attached diagram.

  • Replacement 7-Way Trailer Connector that Uses Traditional Wire Coloring
I looked up one of your previous order (Thank you, by the way. We love return customers) and what you've gotten in the past are 7-way connectors that use traditional RV wiring. The easiest way to pick them out is that they have a red wire. I assume you're probably wiring a cargo trailer or maybe a car hauler. The only 7-way we have that uses the standard coloring is part # HM20041. The coloring is: White: ground wire Yellow: left turn/brake light Green: right turn/brake light Brown: tail...

  • Can 12V Auxiliary Wire on Trailer 7-Way Be Used To Power Trailer Brakes
The auxiliary or back-up wire on a 7-way trailer connector like # HM20041, is used to power to things like interior trailer lights or other 12V accessories. It can also be used to power backup lights, but not many trailers are equipped with those. There is a dedicated brake wire (typically blue) on your 7-way trailer connector which runs back to each of your brakes. This is the wire you want to connect to the corresponding brake wire on your vehicle's 7-way or 7 and 4 way like # 37185....

  • What is the Difference between the Hopkins Trailer Wiring Harnesses HM20041 and H20046?
There isn't really a lot of differences between the Hopkins 7-Way RV Style Connector with Molded Cable - 8' Long - RV Standard # H20046 and Hopkins 7-Way Blade Style Connector with Molded Cable - 8' Long - Auto Standard # HM20041. Both are 8 feet long and will fit in the standard 7 Way vehicle plug and even use the same gauge wires. However, it is actually the colors of the wires that are different. The # HM20041 will use the auto-industry standard: Black (12v Power), White (Ground), Purple...

  • Difference Between Hopkins 7-Way Blade Style Auto and RV Standard Connectors
The difference between the Hopkins 7-Way Blade Style Connectors # HM20041 and # H20046 is simply the color of the wires used. The 41 matches closer to what you'd find in the auto industry while the 46 matches better to what you'll find on the RV side of things. I recommend just going with whichever option is more cost-effective at any given time since they are essentially the same thing. Either way you go you'll want to make sure you're matching by functions though and not just by wire...

  • Option For Connecting a Lance Camper Electrical Plug To A 2020 Ford F 450
We do have a potential solution for you, but Lance campers use a proprietary plug, and there is not any adapter for your Lance camper that we are aware of. If your camper does use the proprietary lance plug, we recommend replacing it with a 7 way plug like the Hopkins 7-Way Blade Style Connector with Molded Cable # HM20041. This way you can simply plug in to the 7 way plug on your F450. We also recommend running your connections thru a junction box # 3375601101

  • How to Make 7-Way Blade to 7-Way Round Female Trailer Connector
It sounds like you're needing to combine a standard 7-Way lead, like the Hopkins 7-Way RV Style Connector with Molded Cable # HM20041, with a 7-Way round pin connector like the Pollak # PK11700. You will be able to connect the open end of the etrailer 7-Way wiring directly to the Pollak. Just keep in mind that for the standard 7-Way blade the turn and brake signals are combined while the 7-Pole connectors usually have those split into their own circuits. This is a pretty unusual setup...
