Video Transcript for Buyers Products Weld-On Safety Chain Retainer Review

Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the Buyers Products Weld-On Safety Chain Loops. So these are gonna be a weld-on product. And the nice thing about these, what sets it apart from all the others is just the fact that we're gonna be able to remove this little clevis pin right here. So, if we want to replace a chain or maybe we just wanna install it and then paint it to match our trailer, all we gotta do is just get a little tool in there, might be able to do with your hands so you can pull this out. It would be a lot easier with the tool, but you can pull this little pin out, and remove your chains really, really easily. So, a lot of the other ones that are weld-on: One, you're gonna have to get the chain in there, and then you're gonna have to weld it on.

So, it's just a little bit more of a hassle to install. And then once it's on there, and we wanna paint it to match our trailer, the chains are gonna get a little painted too. So, this is gonna be a great way to kind of just make it a little bit easier on yourself. You can install it without the chains on there, and you can paint it, then you can put your chains on. So if you wind that, switches out your chains, for whatever reason, it's gonna be the easiest way to do that.

If you're gonna go with this set up, just make sure you have a 5/16 inch chain, and then whatever length that you have. We do have a lot of different chains on our website. So just go ahead and grab that. The clevis pin is gonna be zinc coated, so it's not gonna rust away. So even if you don't end up painting it, which you could do whatever, it's not gonna rust away even if you don't.

It is made of forged steel, the whole entire little retainer, and this is gonna be pretty much ready to paint after you weld it on. Just make sure whenever you are doing welds, that you have somebody who knows what they're doing to get these things installed. As far as dimensions go, that's gonna be about four inches in length and depending on what kind of angle you go with, it's going to stick out a little bit lower than your tongue, depending on what size tubing you use. So that's just gonna be variable depending on how you set it up. But for this one in particular, it's only adding about two inches from the bottom of our tube here.

What the thickest part, without the clevis pin from outside to outside is about an inch and a half. And then on the inside, it's about three quarters of an inch. I would definitely put this on the heavier duty side when it comes to safety chain retainers. And the best thing about this is, we're really not gonna have to use much energy at all, to swap out our chains. So, if you are doing that quite often, or you're breaking chains, these are gonna be the ones you want to go with. And that'll do it for a look at the Buyers Products Safety Chain Retainers..

Order for bunk board carpet and weld on safety chain mounts came fast with in 3 days of Oder being made on Saturday.

by:

Etrailer always comes through with the parts I need..

by:

I think these weld on safety chain retainers are great. I'm not a fan of just welding chains on but I know that's the way some do it. This is a clean and more finished way of attracting safety chains. With the benefit of being able to easily replace or adjust chain length. Would recomend and will buy again. Big fan of etrailer!

by:

Excellent service, very fast and great tracking
Parts are great , highly recommend

by:

Great item !!! This item is a bargain for what it is and easy to weld on.

by:

Products I ordered were fine quality wise, but there was no packing material and the safety chains and these mounts beat my lights up and destroyed the box

by:

Installed on a 1996 F250. The fit was good. This is a good quality, heavy duty hitch.

by: 04/06/2023

product is exactly what we needed.
Good
price

These are a great way to upgrade or replace your trailers safety chains. These weld on your trailer. Be honest with yourself about your skills, this is a critical component, if you can't weld, hire someone who can.

by:

Great service and quality products delivered on time and as expected… Could not ask for more

by:

I am impressed with ease for attaching the safety cables and will have more to comment on after they are welded on.

by:

These safety chain retainers are like the ones I have on a Big Tex Trailer, but I have to cut them off because they were welded to the bottom of the hitch. They are supposed to be welded to the side so if the trailer comes unhooked the retainers and chains won't get ground off by the road surfacing. I am not sure if I can salvage the ones on the trailer, so I got these in case I ruin the others.

by:

Great product matched the ones on my big Tex trailer.

by:

Basic rough casting. Used a flap sanding wheel to clean and flatten them to fit the trailer well. Should be very strong and make future chain replacements a breeze.
Whole installation took maybe 30 mins even with my excessive prep.

by:

Awesome, makes it nice to be able to swap out your safety chains if one gets dragged and ruined.

by:

Always a god time and the right product here!

by:

I received my order quickly and item 3375471001 was just as described. Cant wait to use these on my new project. Thanks etrailer!

by:

I wish I would have know about these along time ago. Definitely a better way tan bolting or welding the chains to the trailer and the strength of the chain is maintained

by:

These things are THICK & sturdy. Much more robust than they appear in the picture. No doubt I could hang my trailer from them. LOL

by:

simple to install and adjust chain leng th.

by:

Very handy to have parts like this avai lable!

by:

Easy to weld, part as described.

by:

  • Can the Buyers Products Weld-On Safety Chain Retainer Be Used with 3/16" Chain
The Buyers Products Weld-On Safety Chain Retainer part # 3375471001 is designed for a 3/8" safety chain so that is what I must recommend. The pin which holds the chain to the retainer is rather larger so there is a chance it would not fit inside a 3/16" safety chain. The weight capacities would also be unknown if used with a different size chain. I suggest upgrading to a 3/8" safety chain if using the above retainer.

  • Placement and Number of Safety Chain Mounts Needed on Trailer
The # 3375471001 Safety Chain Mounts would typically be welded to the trailer frame or tongue, the exact location would depend on the design of the trailer. You'll want to use two safety chain mounts. The mount is designed to hold a 3/8th's inch chain, so you'll need to make sure that the link on the chain has an opening size of at least 3/8 of an inch.

  • Can a MIG Welder be Used to Weld Trailer Safety Chain Mount 3375471001
Yes, you can use a MIG welder to weld on Trailer Safety Chain Mount # 3375471001. They were designed to be welded on so they are made of raw steel and ready to be welded.

  • How To Determine The Correct Replacement Braking Assemblies For A Trailer With 2.7K Axles
I took a look at what we carry, and we do not carry replacement axles for 2.7K axles, However, we do carry a wide variety of braking assemblies for you. In order to determine which assemblies are compatible with your trailer, you will need to measure the inside diameter and depth of your current brake drums. The drums will need to be pulled off, however. For example, the: -Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-35 will fit drums that have a 10" inner diameter and are 2-1/4" deep. If you...

  • Will the Buyers Products 3/8" Retainer Work With 1/2" Chains?
No, your 1/2" chains would be too big and wouldn't fit. The Buyers Products Weld-On Safety Chain Retainer For 3/8" Chain # 3375471001 is meant to be used with 3/8" safety chains like # 337BSC3835.

  • Safety-Chain Retainer and Chains/Cables for 14' Utility Trailer with 3,500 lb Tandem Axles
There are a handful of different retainer styles out there to match different thicknesses of chains and cables that we have to offer. So the Buyers Products Weld-On Safety Chain Retainer # 3375471000 would be geared towards a 5/16" diameter (or 1/4") chain/cable while the Buyers Products Weld-On Safety Chain Retainer # 3375471001 would be geared towards a slightly larger 3/8" diameter chain/cable. For your application I recommend going with the part # 3375471001 and pairing it with the...

  • How To Move The Safety Chain Closer To The Front Of The Travel Trailer Tongue
It is possible that the Curt Trailer Safety Chain Holder Bracket - 2" Shank # C68CR could help. This is not a safety chain anchor point, but more of a guide/holder that fits onto 2" shanks and requires no welding or drilling. If that won't work for you then your other option is to weld-on an anchor, such as Buyers Products Weld-On Safety Chain Retainer For 3/8" Chain # 3375471001. These retainers are rated for up to 25,000lbs and can be mounted on the frame or tongue of the trailer. Buyers...

  • Safety Chains Compatible With Buyers Products Weld-On Safety Chain Retainer
For your Buyers Products Weld-On Safety Chain Retainer # 3375471001 you will need a chain with a 3/8" diameter; you can use the 35" Buyers Products # 337BSC3835 or 42" # 337BSC3842. Both of these chains have a clevis hook and a maximum trailer weight capacity of 15,000 lbs.

  • Can Quick Links be Used to Attach Safety Chains to Trailer
When using safety chains, each component, including the quick links, must meet or exceed the GVWR of your trailer. So if you used a pair of safety chains that were rated for 12,000 lbs - to meet the 24,000 lb GVWR of your trailer - you would need to use quick links that were also rated for 12,000 lbs. The highest-rated quick links we carry are the Curt Safety Chain Quick Link # C82932 which is rated for 16,500 lbs and would not be enough for your 24,000 lb trailer. If you are unable to...

These are specially designed to work with the 3/8" chain and ensure that it can handle the weight properly. I have some options for you as the CE Smith Tie-Down Bracket # CE26214G is not rated for attaching Safety Chain # 337BSC3842. We do also have the Buyers Products Weld-On Safety Chain Retainer # 3375471001 which can allow you to add chains.
