How to Tow a Trailer with Separate Brake and Turn Signals
Published 09/20/2018 >
Question:
We have a Toyota PU bed used as a trailer with original tail lights. At the time Toyota used 5 wires - the two yellow lights were the turn and the lower red lights were separate tail and stop thus 5 wires. Now with American trucks they only used 4 wire with turn/stop sharing the same wire. With my former Toyota 4x4 I used a convertor thingy to connect up to trailers at rental places that used only 4 wires. Can I used one of these convertors in reverse?

In order to convert the three wire system on your trailer to be used with a two wire system on the tow vehicle you will need to use the Vehicle to Vehicle Tail Light Converter part # 118158 in conjunction with the Wesbar 4-Pole Flat Connector part # W787268. This will combine the brake and turn signals together on the trailer.
If you can let me know the year, make, and model of the tow vehicle I would be happy to recommend a 4-way if you do not already have one.
