Video Transcript for Deka Wiring 05731-5 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the five pack of 16 to 14 gauge butt connectors. These vinyl insulated blue butt connectors have a wire range of 16 to 14 gauge. The wire gauge, you can see it fits, is actually stamped on here. They do use chamfered barrel ends in the inside to allow fast and easy wire insertion from both ends. The very middle has a built in wire stop for accurate positioning of the wires and these must be crimped at the ends for a good insulated connection, and this part comes as a quantity of five. But, that should do it for the review on the five pack of the 16 to 14 gauge butt connectors..

Couplets have held up well. Good product

Worked great

I ordered a Ventline Vanair RV vent fan. It arrived on time and in good shape. I believe I paid a fair price for this item. I have not yet installed the fan, but have no reason to suspect it will not be the exact replacement for the defective one in my Airstream. I also purchased the butt connectors to hook up the fan during installation.

Comments
I installed the fan and it works fine.

Wanted to upgrade my trailer to LED tail lights during an overhaul an new flooring. After stopping at 4 auto supply stores that carried the brand I wanted but only stocked the most expensive ones the company offered, I went to etrailer an stopped wasting my time.
Exactly what I wanted. Priced honestly, and delivered quickly.
Won't waste the time & gas next time. Just come back to etrailer an be completely satisfied.

Not water tight silicone butt connectors wouldn't use these

Comments
While we dont have butt connectors designed to be water tight, we do have heat-shrink butt connectors like part # DW05744-5
Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connector - 16-14 Gauge - Nylon Insulation - Blue - Qty 5
$8.08
as well as primary wire heat shrink tubing # DW05451
Primary Wire Heat-Shrinkable Tubing - 18-14 Gauge - Black - 1/8" Shrink Diameter - 6" Long
$6.35
. The heat shrink design is intended to help keep as much water as possible out of the wiring connection.

Used to wire a Tekonsha Primus brake controller to a 2009 Porsche Cayenne S. Worked perfectly.

by:

What can I say? they work and are inexpensive. I had to find something to add to my order to get from 149.90 to go over the 150.00 to get free shipping, and if you own a trailer, it's always a good idea to have these in your toolbox!

by:

  • Installing a Pilot Brake Controller in a 2004 Ford F-250 Super Duty with Cut Wires Under the Dash
If equipped with a factory 7-way trailer connector, your 2004 Ford F-250 Super Duty pickup should have a grey plug hanging down near the OBD-II diagnostics port under the dash. This plug allows connection of a brake controller. It may be necessary to remove a trim panel to gain access to the brake controller plug. If it is not readily visible, you may need to check further inside of the dash, reaching through the sheet metal and into the area behind the center console. Please refer to...

  • Installation By Wire Color & Function On Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller In 2014 Chevy Tahoe
On your 2014 Chevy Tahoe, there is no plug present under the dash, but the wires are already run. You will connect your Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195 to these wires which are bundled under your steering column to the left of your brake pedal. These wires are normally bundled with white tape. I recommend using butt connectors like # 05731-5. There are 4 wires in your truck (a white wire, a blue with white tracer, a red with black tracer, and a dark blue wire) and four...

  • How to Wire Wesbar 7-Function LED Wrap-Around Tail Light 271594
Thank you for your photo. On your trailer's original lights the connector's exposed pin is the ground while on your replacement light # 271594 the ground is on the white wire as you noted. For these new lights the red wire carries stop/turn signals while the black wire carries running light signal. You can use butt connectors like # 05731-5 to make your wire splices and we recommend also applying electrical tape over those splices to protect them.

  • Recommended Wiring Connectors for 14 to 16 Gauge Wires to Protect From Weather
I have a solution for you, but the # 05731-5 are not heat shrink style butt connectors, so heating them isn't going to provide any protection. Instead I recommend using the Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connector - 16-14 Gauge - Nylon Insulation - Blue - Qty 5 # DW05744-5, which can be heated up to provide some insulation from the elements. This would be the best solution it sounds like and would be my recommendation.

  • What Size Butt Connectors Are Needed for the Lippert Flow Max Fluid Pump?
It's going to depend on how far you are needing to run your wires as the farther you run your wires you're going to get a power drop. If you're planning on running the wires no more than 25' which is what I assume, then you'd to use at least 16 gauge wire and would need the 16-14 Gauge Butt Connector # 05731-5. If you're looking to run the wire farther than 70', you'd need to beef your wire to at least 12 gauge and would then need # DW05745-5.

  • Replacing 4-Way Plug on Trailer Wishbone Harness with 5 Wires
You can indeed connect a standard 4-Way plug like the Hopkins # HMC20031 to the 5-wire wishbone harness on your boat trailer. A wishbone harness uses a separate running lights wire for each side of the trailer (instead of having to run a jumper wire across at the rear). To connect the wiring to the new 4-Way you will just need to connect the 2 running lights wires together (which should both be brown but you will want to test them to be sure) using a butt-connector like # 05731-5. • Recommendation to Replace Trailer 5-Way That Has 9 Wires
It sounds like the current 5-Way connector on your trailer has a type of wishbone wiring design, which uses separate wires for the signal lights on both sides of the trailer. Most likely yours has a separate wire going down each side of the trailer for the running lights, brake lights, and reverse light functions. I highly recommend following the wiring from the connector on your trailer and testing them for function to verify this. We do not have any 5-Way connectors available with a...

  • Alternate Wire Routing For T-One Harness On 2012 Mazda CX-9
I have attached a link to an installation video on a 2012 Mazda CX-9 like you own. When all of the access to the tail lights is done in the rear cargo area, it can be difficult to find a place that allows you to run the 4-way connector on the T-One Harness, part # 118520. As they show in the video, when the T-one harness is not being used, you can just roll it up and stow it out of the way in your rear cargo area. This protects it from being damaged and also from corrosion. If you choose...

The Brake Controller Wiring Adapter you referenced, part # 3023-P is indeed the correct connector for installing a brake controller in your 2014 Ram 1500. One end of the harness will plug into the rear of your controller, the two connectors on the other end will plug in under the dash as shown in the install video I have linked you to. The 4-Pole hardwire wiring kit # 18252 comes with the 4-Way itself, a circuit tester, and quick splice connectors so nothing else is required unless you wanted to upgrade the connections and add additional protection. If you want a better connection then I recommend using butt connectors # 05731-5 and then sealing the connections up in shrink tubing. Putting some dielectric grease # 11755 will help protect the electrical connections from corrosion and moisture.

When you go to replace the pump you'll want to have some towels ready unless you've blown out the lines since there's typically a bit of water still inside the pump that will leak out once you unscrew the connections. You'll also want to pick up some butt connectors # 05731-5 for a secure connection when hooking up the wiring.
