Video Transcript for Deka Wiring 16-4B-1 Review

Today, we're going to review part number 16-4B-1. This is the Deka bonded four wire per foot. This is a parallel primary wire that has four parallel conductors bonded together by this thermal plastic insulation and each conductor is independently color coded for easy identification. Basically, can see that it has the normal four wire color coding. The green, which is your right turning brake wire. Your yellow which is your left turning brake wire. Your brown, which is your tail lights, and your white, which is your ground. Each wire is a 16 gauge and again, on this part number, the price is per foot.

I have a foot of wire right here so you can order as many feet as you like. This is designed for use with 50 volts or less. That should do it for the review on part number 16-4B-1, the Deka bonded four wire per foot. .

Quality products that allows us to our trailer to automotive OEM standards vs the bound to fail system of the original trailer manufacturer

Your description on line was the best of anywhere I found. I'm going to make 2 wiring harnesses for my pickup. I'll be towing it behind my motorhome so 1 harness will be from the front bumper to the rear of the bed for a light bar I'm making. Then the 2nd harness will be from the front bumper of the pickup to the rear of my motorhome. I also ordered 2 12" 4 wire loops for each end of the 2 harnesses I'll be making.

They worked out great!

This review covers an earlier purchase of backing plates and brake assemblies for my double axle 16' trailer as well as new wiring for this trailer after repeatedly repairing the wiring purchased from a local store. The brakes work perfectly and the new wiring is so much better than my previous locally purchased wiring. The only problem I have now is remembering to adjust the brakes between the loaded and unloaded trips. Makes the tires last longer!!

Wires are holding up great!! No more breaks or disconnects. This project completes a refitting of my 16 ft car hauler. Earlier parts included brake shoes and backing plates and a new trailer to truck power cable. Very satisfied with all of the items purchased from e-trailer.

Fast delivery - Ordered on 9/29/17 - Received on 10/4/17
As a benefit, wire is 16G rather then the normal 20G you find in the stores that have ready made harnesses.
NOTE for etrailer managers. I am a technical person by nature and speaking only for myself, when I buy and pay for a specific amount of something, I expect to get that amount. I'm not pinching pennies with you here; BUT, I bought 30' of this wire and when I received it, I measured it twice and came up with 29' 10". Most places I've dealt with in the past where I buy wire, angle iron, etc.. would give you a couple of inches or more than you ordered versus a couple of inches shorter than what was ordered. Very stingy in my opinion and not fair to your customers.

by:

Thick heavy gauge wire, with stout insulation.
Not like the thin stuff in a harbor freight light kit.
This is something you will be proud to put on your trailer.

Yet another part purchased for my 10K lb trailer build.
I am planning on mounting a waterproof junction box for my wiring, these wires will be used to power all of the lights on the trailer. I will run separate wires for the trailer brakes and battery. The quality of this wire looks to be pretty nice.

by:

Having all your wiring color coded and matching for accessories on your camper or trailer is a must as far as im concerned. This roll does just that and makes repairs and connections so much easier. It also prevents shorts and incorrect wiring that alone makes it a must have.

by:

Excellent product, quality, and exact wire gauge I was looking for. I love that I could buy the exact length I needed without buying an entire spool of wire. I'm using this wire on my utility trailer. I needed to lengthen the trailer wire that connects to the vehicle. I covered the wire with split loom and bought new connectors for both truck and trailer. It looks and functions great! Thanks!

This helped make rewiring my trailer very easy .

super fast shipping. exactly what was needed to get my flatbed trailer back on the road. Prices were great and customer support is fantastic. thanks for all the help and great products.

great bonded harness for hay-bailer ha uler.

Hi, I am sorry to give you a not so good review but I feel I must be honest. When I received my wire it was in a rat nest I spent some time unknotting it and some of the wires were not connected to the bonded 4 wire by at least 11/2 foot. however the shipping was fast. Thank You David S.

Online ordering was very easy. Customer service emailed updates every step of the delivery process and allowed me to track my order very easily. Everything came in as expected and in great shape. My first experience with Etrailer has been very pleasant! Thank you!

As always my order was received in record time. The products are great quality with some of the best customer service I have ever received. Etrailer goes above and beyond to provide great products as well as very informative technical information.

Good product easy to install just seemed a bit cheap. It was easier than building my own harness.

by:

The wire, rollers and the fenders were all received in good condition; and are installed on the trailer.

Your site was easy to order from, the price was good; and thank you for your promptness in delivering the order.

by:

Wire for trailer lights, good product.

by:

I am very pleased with the products I have purchased from etrailer. They were shipped right away. Just what I needed. I highly recommend this site.

by:

I ordered 40' of this for re-wiring my 15' trailer (running it down both sides). This wire is solid yet easy to work with, i.e. separating out an individual wire for splicing, bending, snaking inside trailer framing, etc. This wire is color coded with the 4 standard colors for trailer wiring.

by:

This wire worked great and is the same gauge on all four wires rather than having a bigger gauge on just the ground like some wire is. I'm glad I ordered the amount I did because I didn't think I would use it but I did.

by:

It is wire. However, the length was the reason for ordering as local retail outlets only had 25 foot lengths available and I didn't want splices in the middle of my "toad" taillight connections.

by:

Excellent new wire that I used to completely rewire the trailer. Very good quality, good insulation, nice fresh multi-strand copper wire inside. Superb! Very satisfied!

by:

Products was as expected and received in a timely fashion.

  • Trailer Wiring was Cut Now Turn Signals on Tow Vehicle and Trailer Will Not Work
It sounds to me like you have a blown fuse since the turn signals do not work on the trailer or on the tow vehicle. I recommend checking the turn signal fuse in your tow vehicle to see if it is blown.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring that Stops Working When Headlights Are On
Try improving the connection of the main ground wire of the trailer wiring harness. Make sure it is attached to a clean metal surface. Or you can run all of the trailer wires back to the main ground. This is actually the ideal solution. But you can also check the current grounds for the lights to make sure they are making a solid connection to a clean metal surface. What you described is the classic insufficient ground scenario so finding a way to improve the grounds will fix the problem.

  • Why Do Some Trailer Tail Lights have 3 Wires and Some have 2 Wires
A lot of trailer lights have 3 wires. One wire for running lights, one wire for turn signal and brake lights, and one wire for ground. Check the back of the light assemblies because it might indicate the functions of the wires. Other lights may only have 2 wires. These lights will have a wire for running lights and the other for turn signal and brake lights. There is no ground wire because they ground through the mounting hardware. If you can tell me the manufacturer and model number...

  • Can Trailer 4-Way be Ran to Trailer with 8 Wires for Trailer Wiring
It really just depends on what the wires are for. Most likely you have several ground wires among the 8 as well as a couple running light circuits in there as well. You just have to run all of the wires to the correct circuits. The 4-way wiring of the part # 16-4B-1 has a white wire for ground, a brown for running lights, yellow for left turn/stop, and green for right turn stop. You would just need to identify all of the wires on your trailer and run them accordingly.

  • Troubleshooting 4-Pole Trailer Wiring to Correct for Dim Lights on Left Side of Trailer
In a 4-pole wiring harness the brake and turn signals are combined into one wire, the yellow wire for the left (driver's) side and the green wire for the right (passenger's) side. Running lights, or taillights, are carried on the brown wire for both sides of the vehicle and trailer. Since your lights do all work, just some of them illuminate dimly, chances are that the issue is localized at those specific lights. More often than not, the type of issue you describe is a result of a weak...

  • Troubleshooting New Trailer Lights that Don't Work that Don't have Ground Wires
It sounds like a ground issue. Sounds like your new lights ground through the mounting hardware. This means the ground of the trailer harness needs to be attached to a clean metal surface. If that doesn't work you can run a wire from each of the assemblies mounting hardware back to the main ground of the harness and the lights will work.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Turn Signals that Work But Not Brake Lights
Sounds like the ground of your trailer is too weak to illuminate both trailer taillights at the same time and that is why the turn signals work but the brake lights do not. Make sure that the trailer side connector are clean and free of corrosion inside and out. The main connector grounds should be attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces. The light grounds should also be attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces. If there is anything between a light ground...

  • Recommended Testing Method to Determine Trailer Wiring Functions
Usually a 4-pole trailer connector will have a white wire as ground, green wire for right turn/stop, yellow wire for left turn/stop and brown for both sides' running lights. But since there is no real standard for wire color on trailers (and since colors can sometimes fade/change after exposure to weather) your best and easiest solution is simply to apply 12V power to the wires one at a time to see what function becomes active. You can use a vehicle's 12V battery or a spare - if like me...

  • How to Wire Up New Trailer Lights When Wiring Colors are Unknown
Since trailer wiring doesn't always abide by the typical wiring color standards I won't be able to tell you exactly where everything needs to go but I can help you figure it all out. Sounds like you have a 7-way on your trailer and the colors for it are standard. Meaning blue is brake output, white is ground, brown is taillight, green is right turn/stop, red is reverse light, and black is 12 volt accessory. I attached a diagram that should help with that. • Installation of Replacment Tail Lights
I can help you with your trailer light. You will want to just ground the white wire to a good, clean, metal surface on your trailer frame. One option would be to run a new ground wire from the light back to the front of the trailer and splice it into the main ground wire. If you continue to have issues, I would be more than happy to continue to troubleshoot this issue with you.

  • Determining Function Of Trailer Taillight Wires on Horse Trailer Taillights.
Since yellow, green, and black are not standard trailer taillight wires, we will need to do a little more digging to find the functions of the different wire colors. To determine the function of the trailer taillight wires, you will want to trace the wires into the taillight housing. The wire that makes contact with the outside of the bulb socket is the ground wire. Once you've determined which wire is the ground wire, you will want to ground this wire and apply 12V power to the other...

  • How to Wire Trailer Running Lamp Circuit w/ Wishbone Wiring Hanress
That's exactly what you need to do. Some trailers, especially boat trailers use what's called a wishbone wiring harness where the running light circuit splits into two wires to run down each side of the trailer, one wire will be brown/yellow the other brown/green in color. Some running lamp circuits will run down one leg of the trailer, and around to the back up to the other side, where it'll stop at the last lamp. I have done the same thing with trailer 7-ways. I thought I had disconnected everything but drove off and ripped off the 7-way from the trailer. It took me a couple times of this happening for me to really start making sure I had disconnected everything. Since they both stopped working at the same time and the circuits you mentioned draw more amperage than the running light circuits the issue sounds like a bad ground for the trailer lights. Wishbone running light circuits can easily be used with standard trailer 4-way wiring setups. It sounds like that is how you intended to wire you trailer but I believe you have a couple wires mixed up. • Wiring Up Trailer 7-Way That Only Has 4 Wires
Looks like your trailer that has a 7-way is only wired up for turn signal functions. This is pretty common so there is nothing to worry about. Since the colors of your trailer wiring aren't standard you would need to wire the connector by function and not color. That being said it looks like the white wire is for ground. What you will need to do is use a jumper wire to run each circuit to a 12 volt battery post to see which circuit illuminates and then wire using the diagram attached....

It sounds like you have a wishbone harness. A wishbone harness has 2 wires for the running light circuit, one for each side of the trailer. That way you do not have to run a jumper wire from one side of the trailer to the other for running lights on both sides. These two running light wires will be spliced together to connect to the single running light wire on a 4-Way. Yellow/brown would be for the left side and green/brown the right side. • Troubleshooting Clearance Lights that Blink with the Turn Signals
It sounds like your clearance lights are run to the stop/turn signal circuit instead of being run to the running light circuit. I would recommend you verify the wiring of your trailer and make sure that you have the correct circuit run to your clearance lights. The running light circuit is typically a brown wire and the circuit right next to the ground circuit that is jacketed on the 4-way. Check out the FAQ article I attached on trailer wiring also.

The first step in troubleshooting your trailer taillights would be to determine if the problem is on the vehicle, or in the trailer wiring. Start first by using a circuit tester like part # 40376. Turn on the vehicle headlights, and use the tester to check the pin on the trailer connector that carries the running light circuit. If you have a 4-pole connector, test the pin fed by the brown wire. If you have a 7-way, check the pin in the 11:00 position. If you get a signal on that pin, the...

If the turn signals are working properly on your boat, but the running lights do not work, then this is most likely a ground issue. The turn signals and brake signals do not require a constant power like what is needed for the running lights. So this is usually when grounding issues become apparent.
