Video Transcript for Deka Jacketed 2 Wire, 10 Gauge, Brake Wire Feature Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Decca jacketed 2 wire 10 gauge brake wire and this is sold per foot. I have a sample here, this is just to show you that this combination of the 2 heavy duty 10 gauge wires. They're jacketed individually and then all together. It's perfect for when installing a trailer brake controller on your vehicle. The 10 gauge duplex brake wire made with the 2 plastic insulated primary wires are laid parallel and the wires are covered with this high quality plastic jacket that protects the insulated conductors. The conductors are color coded for easy identification.

You can see a white and a black. This does meet all the SAEJ1128 specifications up to 50 volts and the insulation is rated to 105 degrees Celsius. Basically what this is used for is one wire is connected to your brake controller which carries the power back from the trailer brakes while the other is connected directly to the vehicle battery for an auxiliary power supply pin in the trailer connector. What's nice is having both of these wires in the same jacket. It makes running them from the back to the front of the vehicle very quick and easy.

That should do it for the review of the Decca jacketed 2 wire 10 gauge brake wire and this is sold per foot.

  • Parts Needed to Change Hydraulic Trailer Brakes Over to Electric Brakes on a 1997 Jayco Tent Trailer
You will need two of the 7 inch electric brake assemblies, one right hand, # 23-48, and one left hand, # 23-47. You will also need an appropriate length of 10 gauge wire, item # 10-2-1, for running the wires to the trailer connector at the trailer coupler. Next, you will need a trailer connector to match the wiring on your vehicle, or the wiring you will need to install on your vehicle, to activate the electric brakes. I would recommend the Pollak trailer connector, item # PK12706, for...

  • How to Wire Electric Brakes on a Tandem Axle Trailer
If your trailer has 7 wires running all the way back to the brakes, then yes, you can tap into the existing wiring. Each of your new brakes will have two wires for the brake magnet. One wire is for 12 volt power to the brake magnets and the other wire should be grounded either to the trailer frame or to the main trailer ground wire. It does not matter which wire is used for power or ground because they are not polarized. If the trailer wiring is running down the left side of the trailer,...

  • Brake Controller Installation for Motorhome with Air Brakes
A brake controller like the Tekonsha P3 will work just fine with the air braking system on your motorhome. The controller will get its input from the brake stoplight switch, which tells it when the brakes are being applied. If there is a 7-way trailer connector at the rear bumper, there might be a connector located under the dash that the controller would simply plug into. You would need to contact the motorhome manufacturer for more information about this. If you do not have a 7-way...

  • Parts Needed to Install Brake Controller and 7-Way on 2003 Chevy Express Van
You would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product as well. The install video shows a 2003 Express Van just like yours. You'll want the some additional wiring as well, which you can get with part # 10-2-1 since your vehicle is longer. For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy...

  • How Much of Each Gauge of Wire Fit Inside a Wire Loom Comfortably
I would certainly recommend the 1/2-inch wire loom # 459075-1. It will hold two jacketed 2 wire 10-gauge wire and three jacketed 2 wire 12-gauge wire. See pictures to the right. In addition, I was able to fit comfortably eleven individual 16-gauge wire # DW02359-1 into the 1/2-inch wire loom. I also took a digital caliper to measure the exact radius of each type of wire: 10-gauge is .17 of an inch, 12-gauge is .14 of an inch and 16-gauge is .09 of an inch. The 10, 12 and 16-gauge wiring...

The best way so hookup a P3 # 90195 to a Volvo semi is to wire the semi with its own separate 7 blade connector. This will include all of the components needed to wire the 7-way, including all of the necessary wires for the P3 brake controller. Many boat trailers are moving to electric systems. I do recommend using dielectric...

  • Ideas to Prevent Rodents from Eating Trailer Wiring
I did some searching around on the internet and came up with a few interesting tips to prevent rodents from eating vehicle/trailer wiring. Here is what I found: Noise will keep the rodent's away. So a portable radio would work for this. Flashing lights, so like a strobe light or any other type of blinking light. Putting a garden gnome near the trailer. Spraying the wires with capsaicin.
