Video Transcript for Deka Primary Wire Heat Shrinkable Tubing Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at Deka's Shrinkable Tubing. These are available in either red or black and gauges between 2-8, 8-12, 10-14, or 14-18. You'll want to use heat shrink to cover up any exposed surfaces, especially on power circuits. We've got some here covering up the ends of our ring terminals where we've crimped it onto our battery wires. We also used it here where we connected two wires together using a non-insulated crimp. And you can see we've used it again here on a larger gauges.

You want to make sure that you use the appropriate size for the gauge wire you are working with. It's a shrinkable EDA tubing that is slightly larger than the gauge you're working with when you're using that appropriate size. You slide it over the wire before making your connection. Once you've made your connection you slide the shrink tubing back over the exposed wire and apply a heat source. I recommend using a heat gun. If you need a heat gun you can pick on up here at etrailer.com.

You can see here as the heat source is applied to it the tubing shrinks tightly over our exposed wiring keeping out any moisture and corrosion that may occur. And that completes our look at Deka's Shrinkable Tubing.

My order was simple, some heat shrink and a few heat shrink butt connectors, no surprise that what I ordered is what was sent. The surprise I did get it how fast the order was processed and shipped. Shipping throughout the country right now is hit or miss- I’ve got an order from a major U.S. distributor for some simple tools, placed 2 weeks ago and still being “processed”...this order with etrailer was like 4 days, including a weekend, from when I clicked submit til it was in my mailbox. That’s outstanding! Thank you!

I ordered multiple items from etrailer and the experience was perfect. The products arrived exactly as described with super fast shipping (standard option). The communication was frequent and thorough. This company knows good customer service. I didn't have any issues, but don't have any worries with this company if any come up.

  • Available Sizes of Heat Shrink Tubing
Part # DW05451 is a pack of 25 six-inch lengths of heat-shrink tubing. This tubing fits wire from 14-gauge to 18-gauge. Similar item # DW05449 works on wires from 10- to 14-gauge. You can use a heat gun like # ALL836717 to shrink the tubing once your electrical connections are complete.

  • Recommended Replacement 4-Pole Trailer Connector for Wishbone Type Trailer Wiring Harness
The # 48195 would be a handy item to have around in case of emergency, but It's not a permanent fix and I wouldn't recommend using it for a 5 wire wishbone harness. The # 002402 would be a better choice but I prefer the Hopkins # HM48110 because of its larger gripping surface that makes using the connector much easier. For installation to your existing harness, you'd connect the two brown wires from the trailer harness to the brown wire on the # HM84110, then match up the yellow, green...

  • Is it Really Necessary to Unplug Trailer Wiring When Backing Boat Trailer into Water
This is a really great question that we've debated quite a bit here even. So to be safe your best option is to unplug the trailer wiring before backing the boat trailer into the water. This greatly reduces the chances of there being a short. That said, I've been on boat ramps after having this discussion and watched trailer after trailer get backed into the water with the wiring connected and everyone was fine so we realize most aren't worried about it. The brake assemblies themselves like...

  • Do Boat Trailer Wiring Connections Need to Be Waterproof
Ideally, you'd unplug the trailer before backing into the water but you'll be a lot happier in the long run if you'd solder your connections and use heat shrink tubing like part # DW05451 followed by some electrical tape. If you don't solder, you can use heat shrink butt connectors like # DW05744-10 followed up with some electrical tape.

  • Best Method to Wire Replacement Tail Light On Trailer
The best way to wire in a new tail light on your 2020 Winnebago Micro Minnie TT is to cut all the old splices out and connect the new tail light directly to the factory wires. The less connection and junction points you have the better; that way there is less chance for a failure point or corrosion building up. The most full proof way of making any electrical connection is to solder and heat shrink the connection. Performance Tool Soldering Accessory Kit # PTW2080 has everything to solder...

  • Using Quick Splice Connectors for Water Proof Connection
If you're looking for a waterproof connection, I couldn't recommend quick splice connectors like the # SWC501925-1. The best solution to make the connection waterproof is to solder the connection then use a heat shrink tube like # DW05449 for 10-14 gauge wires or # DW05451 for 14-18 gauge wire. The second best option would be to use a heat shrink butt connector like # DW05745-5 for 10-12 gauge or # DW05744-10 for 14-16 gauge. Wrapping the connections securely in electrical tape would also...

  • When is it Recommended To Use Dielectric Grease When Wiring
We want to thank you for your recent purchase! You wouldn't need to use dielectric grease with a butt connector such as part # DW05714 (view video at the 1:16 mark) as electrical tape will work great. Heat shrinkable tubing such as part # DW05451 will help protect against the elements. It works with 14-18 gauge wire. Most trailer light wiring is 16-gauge. Once you have your wire inside the tubing you can use a heat gun, blow dryer and/or lighter utilize the heat shrinkable tubing....

  • Trailer Connector for Towing Surge Coupler Equipped Trailer With 2013 Toyota Tundra
I'll begin with the assumption that your new pontoon trailer has hydraulic surge brakes. This type of braking system uses a hydraulic coupler that compresses when the tow vehicle brakes, and the compression is what causes the brakes to actuate. A trailer like this usually uses a 5 pole flat trailer connector, with the extra circuit being the reverse lock out. The reverse lock utilizes a solenoid that prevents the brakes from applying with you attempt to back the trailer. Otherwise, especially...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness Installation on 2015 Nissan Murano
Actually, there's a very good reason to store the 4 pole trailer connector in the cargo area when it's not being used- it protects the connector from corrosion, damage and road grime. When the trailer connector is needed, simply pull the connector out far enough so it plugs into the trailer and close the rear hatch on the wiring harness (be sure to avoid the latch area.) The weather stripping is thick enough that the wiring harness won't be damaged in the least. The wiring harness on...

  • Can Wires on Wesbar Trailer Tail Light 403075 be Spliced to Trailer Wiring
Yes, you can splice the wires on the Wesbar trailer tail light # 403075. Since the light is going onto a Sea Doo trailer and will likely get submerged you will want to make sure the splices are water tight. I recommend using some liquid electrical tape # SWC50122 and heat shrink tubing # DW05451 to keep out water.

  • Troubleshooting Dim Running Lights and Both Turn Signals Flashing on Trailer
It sounds like you might have two separate issues going on simultaneously. First, if the lights are very dim it is usually because the necessary amount of voltage isn't reaching the lamps. Since this is occurring on more than one circuit, I'd guess that the problem is most likely a build-up of corrosion on the trailer connector on the vehicle or the one on the trailer. Closely examine the pins and sockets. If you can see white or green corrosion, it's likely that the corrosion is restricting...

  • Availability of 3-Pin Pigtail Wiring Connectors for # 98174LED Cargo Carrier Light Kit
Are you needing the pigtail that will plug into the lamps? If so, a right angle pigtail is available as part # A47PB. A straight plug is also available as part # A45PB. If you're looking for a female socket that will accept the existing plugs to make an extension, Optronics doesn't offer such a part. If you need do some cutting and splicing, I'd recommend soldering your connections and protecting the connections with heat shrink tubing like part # DW05451.

  • Connectors for Trailer Wiring
I'm assuming you're speaking of Quick Splice connectors like part # SWC502905-1, correct? Making wiring splices using this type of connector is acceptable in an interior application, but I wouldn't recommend using them where the wiring is exposed in any way to the elements. If the connection will be exposed, I recommend soldering the connection and protecting it with heat shrink tubing like part # DW05451. If you don't have a soldering gun, we offer a cordless model as part # PTW2000.

  • Trailer Connector for Golf Cart
How you'd proceed will depend on how the existing taillights on the golf cart are wired. If it's a combined wiring system, where the turn signal and brake lamp are carried on the same circuit you can simply splice a 4 pole connector in using # 18252. Rather than using the quick splice connectors, I'd recommend soldering the connections and protecting them with heat shrink tubing like # DW05451. If you don't have a soldering iron, we offer a handy cordless model as part # PTW2000. If...

  • How to Extend Power Wire of Optronics Halogen Fog Light Kit # QH-84CF
The quickest and easiest fix would be to use a length of 16 gauge wire like # 16-1-1 and butt connectors # DW05714 to lengthen the power wire so that it is long enough to reach the battery. You can use electrical tape or heat shrink tubing like part # DW05451 to protect the connections from dirt and moisture.

  • How to Construct Adapter Using Two 18002 Vehicle End 4 Pole Trailer Connectors
The truck side should have 3 slots and a pin, You might consider simply replacing the plug on the truck side, using # 18002, so it will match up with the trailer. If you wanted to make and adapter, you'd need two of # 18002 and wire them together, color for color. Instead of the quick splice connectors included with them, I'd recommend soldering the connections and using heat shrink tubing like # DW05451 to keep moisture out of the connection. I've linked you to an article about...

  • Wiring Replacement Trailer Connector to Trailer Wiring with Two Running Light Circuits
It sounds like your trailer has what's referred to as a wishbone harness. A wishbone harness splits the running lamp circuit into two 'legs' so you can run one leg down the driver's side, and one down the passenger side. If you're wanting to install a replacement 4-pole trailer connector to your existing wiring, I'd recommend using the Hopkins Easy-Pull # HM38134 harness. The neat thing about this connector is it's really easy to use, so you won't try to unplug the trailer connector...
