Video Transcript for Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connectors Review

Today we'll be taking a look at a Deka line of Heat Treat Butt Connectors, available in five and ten packs, in a variety of colors and gauges here at Etrailer.com. We have one of the butt connectors out of the pack, take a quick look at it. It's labeled twenty-two and eighteen gauge wires, and the center section here, the metal part, is the actual butt connector itself. On the outside you've got the nylon covering, and these two large ends are parts that shrink down after you install your wires. It's a good idea to use a good set of crimpers, and also make sure you have your wires stripped back to about maybe a quarter inch. Then just crimp it down, bring your other wire in and do the same thing.

Then we'll apply heat to the butt connector to shrink up the wires. It'll take up the openings and seal our connection from dirt and water. Ideally you want to use a heat gun. You can direct the heat with it. If you don't have a heat gun available a lighter works as well. Using lighters get it hot after a while so it may be a good idea to use a barbecue lighter instead.

Since you can't direct the heat with this you'll probably have to apply heat a little bit longer than normal for the top side to shrink up as well. We'll go ahead and show our heat shrink butt connectors in typical application. In this case it's going to be behind a trailer light. We'll apply heat to go ahead and shrink the ends down and make a seal around the wire. We'll go ahead and do a test run and verify we have connection through our butt connector.

That'll do it for our review of the Deka line of Heat Shrink Butt Connectors. .

Great, brand name products and some hard to find LED side marker lights. Refurbished an old EZ Loader boat trailer for carrying kayaks. Old incandescent lights were rotted off of the frame and the side marker lights in the fiberglass fenders were inside rubber grommets that were dry rotted. Etrailer had all the replacement lights, available in LED, and beat the price of any other option. Quality products. Delivered in 2 days under a free shipping promo. Etrailer is saved to my favorites for any trailer needs. Pic of the Yak project attached. New tail, fender and side marker LEDs! 472057

Just received my order of new backing plate assemblies and some misc small parts. Ordered on line late Sunday night, confirmed I had ordered the right parts Monday morning before shipment went out. Customer service by phone was superb and the gal I talked with was perfect. Shipment was on my porch Friday afternoon. I did open box and inspect shipment that arrived completely intact/good shape and all looked good at this point. Not sure when will get to the brakes on the trailer but will post again when the job is done. So far nothing but good to say about Etrailer.com. Regards, John. 300449

Order arrived very quickly. Placed on Friday, arrived on Tuesday from Mo to Pa. Items were packed well and arrived in good condition. Upon initial inspection all items appear of good quality. Ordered tires, brakes with backing plates, hubs ,seals and grease. Haven't installed any items yet, but I am sure I will have no issues. Free shipping is a plus. Additionally unlike other free shipping offers that are out on the back burner for a week, order was processed and shipped promptly. I have recommended etrailer to friends and would highly recommend them to anyone. 373544

I have found that the 16-14 Gauge Deka Heat aren't quite as good as their larger 12-10 Gauge counterparts. They still work very well, but the heat shrink shielding is a bit thinner and seems to split easier when making a crimp, and had experiences where the connecter wouldn't grab a 16-gauge wire on the first try. All total I've had an approximate 20% failure rate with this gauge connecter which I feel is a bit high considering their price point. I will use them again in wet use applications, but would like to see some improvements. 421381

  • Tapping Into Vehicle Fuse Box To Install A Backup Camera System Without Splicing Factory Wires
  • To wire a backup camera into your vehicle so that it only comes on when in reverse, will require tapping into your reverse function wiring. Without knowing your specific vehicle, I can't tell you the specific fuse location but your owners manual will be able to help you. If you choose to use this as your power source, I recommend you use the Firestone Fuse Circuit Tap Kit # F2526 and run wire like the 16 gauge # DW02359-1 to the camera wire. Another method of installation requires...

  • How to Wire a Trailer for Tail Lights

If you have an old trailer and want to replace everything, I recommend using a kit like our Optronics Tail Light Kit, # TL29BK and our trailer wiring installation kit # HM51020. We also have an LED kit, # TLL9RK. Step 1 - The trailer connector should extend 2 - 3 feet past the tongue. Attach the ground wire directly to the tongue of the trailer using a self tapping screw # 101131802 and a ring terminal...

  • Trailer Brake Lights Stay on After Brake Pedal is Released in Tow Vehicle
  • It sounds like you have a short somewhere on your towing setup. I recommend isolating the issue by testing the pin on your tow vehicle side connector with a circuit tester like part # 3808. If it is not sending power when you take your foot off the brake pedal then the problem is on your trailer. If it is sending power when your foot is off of the brake pedal then the problem is on your tow vehicle side. Either way you will want to start off by checking the connectors from the tow vehicle...

  • Tail Light Fuse on Truck Keeps Blowing When Trailer Wiring is Connected and Then Trailer is Coupled
  • There are a few things that you will want to check since your tail light fuse keeps blowing when you couple your trailer. Start off by checking the connector on your truck and your trailer. Make sure that it is clean and free of debris and corrosion as that can cause power from other circuits to bleed over to the running lights. Using dielectric grease like part # 11755 on your connectors can help prevent water damage and corrosion. If the connectors look good then you will want...

For a junction box you can use # 38656. I have linked a couple of videos showing installations featuring these products for you. • If the 5-way connector you have is installed on the vehicle you can use part # HM37908. You would just cut the connector off of your vehicle and splice the # HM37908 with the length of wire you need. You can use butt connectors like part # DW05744-5 to connect the wiring. If the connector is on the trailer then you can replace the damaged connector with part # HM47910.
