Hello, I need to purchase a wdh for my camper, 2026 Jayco 197mbw baja g. What is the correct size I need? It is being pulled by a 2003 Silverado 1500. I have received mixed answers between 8000 and 10,000

Hey Tim!
Congrats on the new camper! For your 2026 Jayco 197MBW Baja G, I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-0800. The 8,000 lb rating is more than enough for your camper, and more importantly, its spring bars are designed for tongue weights between 400 and 800 lbs.
When choosing a weight distribution hitch, the 8,000 lb or 10,000 lb trailer rating isn't really the number we want to focus on. The most important number is your trailer's loaded tongue weight. Ideally, a properly loaded travel trailer will have roughly 10-15% of its loaded weight on the tongue, and you also want to account for any cargo carried behind the rear axle of your Silverado when sizing the system.
With your Jayco having a GVWR around 4,500 lbs, even using the high end of that 10-15% range puts you at approximately 675 lbs of tongue weight. That lands nicely within the 400-800 lb operating range of the # FA92-00-0800. Going with a 10,000 lb system would generally mean using stiffer spring bars than your trailer needs, which can result in a harsher ride and isn't an advantage simply because the system has a higher overall towing rating.
The Fastway e2 also gives you built-in 2-point sway control, which I really like for a lighter travel trailer being pulled by a half-ton Silverado. The spring bars ride on the L-brackets to provide friction against side-to-side movement while also transferring weight back toward the front axle of your truck. You can also back up normally without disconnecting the sway control.
One thing to keep in mind is that the # FA92-00-0800 does not include the hitch ball, so you'll need to match the ball to the coupler on your Jayco.
If you can get me the loaded tongue weight of the camper, or even the dry hitch weight listed on its sticker, I can double-check the sizing for you before you order.

Tim, Jerry is ?? on his recommendations. I have been using this hitch for 2 years and 3000 miles of towing with an F-150 and 23’ trailer. My GVWR is 5500 lbs with a tongue weight of around 600 lbs, so roughly the same setup as yours. It sits well within the range of this hitch, and the best part is not having to remove the bars when backing into a camp spot. I travel through Wyoming (always a windy drive) frequently and the anti-sway benefits of the hitch make the trip much less stressful and not a constant fight to stay in my lane.
