Can You Use A Curt Shank With A Fastway Weight Distribution System?

Updated 07/17/2025 | Published 07/13/2025

Question:

Can a curt shank be used in place of fastway ? I need to replace the shank on my e2 hitch to get the ball mount lower for my Chevy Tahoe to be properly adjusted. I see the curt shanks are a little less expensive. Can the curt shank be replaced see ?

Hi Jim!

Fastway weight distribution shanks follow an industry standard 1-1/4" vertical hole spacing that Curt also follows (as do most, though not all, weight distribution manufacturers). So if, for example, you have a Fastway e2 Weight Distribution System # FA92-00-0800 that has a max drop of 2-3/4" and need more than that, you could swap the shank out for something like the 10" long Curt Weight Distribution Shank # 17120 that offers 5-3/4" of drop. This would bolt up without issues at all.

Do you know how much drop you need to be level?

@Jim The Curt Weight Distribution Shank # 17120 I mentioned above would be a great option then. It gives you a little more separation from the vehicle and trailer and has the 5" of drop (technically a little more at 5-3/4"). It also has a 15,000 pound towing capacity and a 1,500 pound tongue weight capacity, so it can handle a lot of weight! What kind of trailer are you towing with your Tahoe?

@LazerS We just purchased a Jayco JayFeather 21MML. It is an upgrade from our 2014 Jayco X17Z. I have an Equal-i-zer 4 point Sway Control 90-00-0400 form the recent trailer. The 2025 weighs much more that is why I now am looking for a shank for the e-2. The dealer only installed the shank that came with the e-2 hitch. I guess I should have negotiated better to have the proper shank installed at time of purchase. Thanks for your time

@Jim Congrats on the new camper! Dealers can be a bit weird with what they will and will not do, for some reason. I do want to point something out though, the # EQ90-00-0400 you have is a bit underrated for your new Jayco JayFeather 21MML. What I found says it has a GVWR of 6,500 pounds, which means about 650 pounds of tongue weight when fully loaded. The E2 you have is rated up to 400 pounds of tongue weight. If you are not loading your camper very much, you may still be fine. If you are fully loading it though, you will want to upgrade to the # FA92-00-0800. This has a tongue weight range of 400 lbs to 800 lbs and would be much better suited for your new camper.
