Is this right for you? Product Expert Lindsey S says:

Yes, if you:

  • Have a trailer with 600 lbs – 1,000 lbs of tongue weight that experiences sway from time to time
  • Want an affordable system that still provides excellent sway control
  • Don't want to have to go through the hassle of disconnecting anything to back your rig up or to tow in the rain

No, if you:

  • Have a significant amount of sway on a regular basis and need something that can really hold your trailer in line
  • Hate noise - the steel on steel brackets can create a racket, especially during turns
  • Have a van or low-riding car that requires more ground clearance than you can get with round bars
Two points of steel-on-steel friction work to prevent and correct trailer sway in this weight distribution system. Sway control brackets help to ensure that your trailer stays in line with your tow vehicle. Adjustable shank included. Lowest Prices for the best weight distribution hitch from Fastway. Weight Distribution Diagram

Create a more stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.

Fastway e2 Sway Control

The two points of sway control within the e2 are created by the steel-on-steel friction that occurs when the spring bars slide within the L-brackets that are mounted on the trailer tongue. Most traditional weight distribution systems have spring bars that are suspended by chains. Although this ensures that the system is not so rigid as to create bounce in the trailer, it also allows a good deal of side-to-side play in the system.

The direct friction that is applied to the spring bars in the e2 system helps to stop sway once it has begun. The concept is similar to the way in which an add-on friction sway control device functions. When each spring bar moves forward or backward, or side to side, it rubs along the bracket, creating friction. The resistance created by this action limits the movement of the spring bar, thus preventing further side-to-side movement of the trailer.

Most add-on units feature some sort of friction material similar to that used in automotive brakes. But the e2 uses direct steel-on-steel contact to create resistance. This is the same sort of friction that is used with locomotives that pull loaded railcars weighing tons. No additional materials are needed. The steel will outlast any of those other materials, providing an extremely durable, functional sway-control system.

The hitch has worked great for the most part, really stabilizes the trailer. The bolted parts on the hitch move a bit which is annoying but overall I'm very happy with the product

What's not to like. Hitching up is a breeze. It pulls easy with great sway control. I get good gas mileage. I feel very confident when using this hitch.

My hitch is still working great. Easy on. Easy off. Easy towing. I wouldnt use anything else.

Talked to etrailer an the manufacturer both before putrchasing this hitch and both were excellent in helping me to determine if this one was suitable for my application.Due to my Kiefer 3 horse slant trailer frame's design and Kiefer wanting no holes drilled in the frame Fastway's rep helped me with a plan to over come the design by boxing in the angle frame with another section of angle and (using longer bolts in the brackets of the proper grade due to the frame's width) where these hitch brackets were to be installed .Installing these brackets was very quick and easy with the detailed installation directions that came with the hitch.Still need to finish the setup of the hitch with horses and tack loaded but see no problems with the detailed instructions received with the hitch and if any problems I feel confident etrailer or Fastway will give me any help I would need. The shipping was fast and the customer service has been top notch from both etrailer and Fastway. Thanks, Sheridan

Product was exactly has ordered. Instructions were very clear. I pull a 5000 lbs dry weight toy hauler which I expect to put about 2000 extra pounds of ATV, fuel, water, tools, etc.... on the trailer. My 2018 Chevy 1/2 ton Z71 was rated at 9700 lbs from the factory. My first pull of the trailer was 200 miles with only air bags on the truck. We bounced all the way home with the trailer. After installing the Fastway e2 Wt Dist w Sway Control we no longer have bouncing like before. I did however pull with air in the bags and with NO air in the bags. I feel the truck rode much better with air in the bags, but the best part is I had no bound with or without air in the bags. If I had bough the hitch first I would not have bought the air bags.

So far the hitch works as advertised. It is well worth the money and makes towing a larger camper MUCH easier. The sway bars are not hard to place or remove. For the price I would buy it again.

Comments
We have had the weight distribution hitch for one camping season and it worked great. Weve pulled a 6k camper across the state multiple times without issue. Once in place the system is very easy to use and only takes a minimal amount of time to get everything hooked up and on the road. I appreciate the fact that you can back up and turn without having to disengage the sway bars. The system seems like it will continue to do its job for years to come. This is the best priced system out there that gets the job done.

I needed a weight distributing hitch to tow a 16' box trailer behind my truck/slide in camper rig, attached with a 48" hitch extension. Initial set up was a breeze. Hitching and unhitching the trailer is straight forward and easy. Weight distribution helps take some of the stress off the trucks suspension and is noticed by reduced suspension air bag pressure. Truth be told, I barely notice the trailer is back there even when loaded with two quad atv's, an Indian Roadmaster and support equipment.

The pole tongue adapter and Fastway E2 hitch work great together. Instructions are straight forward and easy to follow. I put it together following the basic setup and it didn't need much adjustment. I could recommend this setup for anyone. Our ice castle has a hydralic frame which you can use to hook the spring bars up. It greatly improved the ride, steering and handling of the rig. I also have a set of Air Lift 1000 in the rear (previously ordered from etrailer). They work great in conjunction with this hitch. And further add adjustability to the setup.

John was very patient and helpful, made me feel confrable as I know nothing about these hitches. He worked diligently making sure I ordered the best set up for my truck and trailer combination including measurements (he told me were and what to measure as I was actually measuring). I was assured that I was receiving a good price as E trailers "price match" and I purchased a quality hitch assembly at a wonderful price. Free delivery was a great perk and the hitch arrived in a couple days as predicted. I have a 2003 Excursion Limited 7.3 diesel 4x4 and need to pull a loaded 28ft car trailer. The young weight is over 800 PDS and I want to be confident that it will be safe. John was an integral part of my purchase and the follow up and technical help is great! Thanks for all the John W

Product arrived very fast and was easy to install per instructions. I am using this on a 27' enclosed snowmobile trailer and using my 2007 Chevy 1/2 ton crew cab to pull it. There is a noticeable difference in how my tow vehicle sits and I feel like I have more control with the high profile trailer. This hitch is very sturdy. Using it is a very fast and simple process. I am happy with the product thus far.

Product is good - heavy. Instruction book leaves something to desire. Makes reference to Spacer Washers but has no picture of where they go. Not enough pics to understand all parts. Have not used product yet but seems very high quality. BTW delivery was awful! Came 5 days after it was stated to be delivered. Big brown co did awful job. Too bad etrailer can't use FX. They are soooo much better. I won't order anything else because of delivery mess.

The washers act as a fine adjustment for the tilt of the weight distribution head. The more washers added to the stud, the further rearward the head tilts. If you use the provided link, you can see an install/set-up video that will walk you through the process.

This system works great for me. I have a Nissan Frontier and 21 foot TT. If you install this yourself make sure you watch every video and then follow the written instructions provided. You cant go wrong. This leveled my truck out and planted the front wheels firmly back on the ground. One word of warning. If you are parking your trailer on an incline and the truck and trailer aren't level move to a level spot, remove the bars and then back it in. Just makes getting the bars off easier.

I purchased this weight distribution hitch because the chain weight distribution hitch caused too much sway. Once I ordered the hitch from etrailer which came super fast I have had no issues with sway. In my opinion it is the only way to go and if I had known about this set up before purchasing the chain distribution kit I would have ordered it instead. Very happy and you will be to if you have issues with sway.

This product made towing my trailer much more safe and easy to tow. We tow close to our weight limit once our vehicle and trailer are loaded, so having this product really increases my confidence driving such a heavy load. Package arrived badly torn. Upon inspection a major component was found to be missing. Damage appears to be the fault of UPS. Etrailer customer service promised to ship the missing part the next day. I will still have faith in etrailer as I’ve had no problems in the past. All the items I’ve purchased from them have trouble free.

If you were at the 600 lb weight you'd be at the bottom of the # FA94-00-1000 weight range as it has a range of 600 to 1,000 lbs. The better option would be the part # FA94-00-0600 which has a tongue weight range of 400-600 lbs just like what your trailer would have. For a drop shank you'd then want the part # RP3344 which will work well with this kit.

In addition to all the items on the trailer that will increase its dry tongue weight, you'll also need to add the weight of anything you carry in the bed of the truck behind the rear axle. The right way to do this is to load up the trailer as you would typically have it, and take it to a truck scale or use the # 5780 Sherline Tongue Weight Scale. Ideally, the TTW of your trailer should fall as close as possible to the middle of the effective range of the weight distribution system...

  • Troubleshooting Lack of Control with GMC Canyon When Towing Trailer with WD System
I took a look at the online owner's manual for your 2017 GMC Canyon and did see that it has a 7,000 pound maximum trailer weight as long as you have the 3.6L V6 engine. For the Canyon models that feature a 2.5L L4 engine, the maximum trailer weight is just 3,500 pounds. I first recommend making sure that you aren't exceeding this 7,000 pound limit when the trailer is fully loaded. Since the dry weight of the trailer is 5,200 pounds, you will want to verify its weight when you have it...

  • Unhooking a Trailer From Tow Vehicle When Using a Fastway e2 Weight Distribution Hitch
When unhooking your trailer while using the Fastway e2, like part # FA94-00-1000, the spring bars should be removed and put somewhere or storage however the brackets can stay on the trailer's frame. This way when you go to hook back up all you need to do is install the spring bars.

  • Choosing the Correct Weight Distribution System
It sounds like you've got a good start to choosing a weight distribution system. One thing to keep in mind is the 420 pound tongue weight spec of your trailer is its dry tongue weight. Since you're likely to add more than just the 100 or so pounds in the front storage area in the trailer you're better off loading it and then finding its tongue weight. From there add the 100 pounds of gear stored in the rear of the Explorer. I'm guessing with the trailer fully loaded your total figure...

  • Will I Need to Lower My Weight Distribution Bars Tongue Weight Capacity to Tow a Smaller Camper
You will not have to change the your bars of your Fastway E2 System, # FA94-00-1000, to tow your new camper. This Fastway system has a tongue weight range of 400 - 1000 lbs. As long as your tongue weight falls in between this range, you will be able to two your camper safely. However if you wish, you can replace the 1000 lbs bars with 800 lbs bar, # FA94-02-0899. This bar will lower the tongue weight range to 400-800 lbs. These round bars are sold by the piece and you will have to order...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System For 2020 Ford F-150 Towing Grand Design Imagine 2400bh
Personally I am a fan of the Fastway e2 weight distributions systems due to the quality of the hitch you get for the money, and the built in 2-point sway control that does a great job at keeping the trailer going straight down the road. To determine which system will work for your 2020 Ford F-150 with the Max Tow package and your new Grand Design Imagine 2400bh you will need to know the total tongue weight of your setup. Total tongue weight is the tongue weight of your fully loaded...

  • Tips for Preventing and Stopping Trailer Sway Caused by Passing Semi Truck
The best defense against trailer sway is proper trailer loading. You need to have the tongue weight of your trailer between 10 and 15 percent of the total trailer weight otherwise sway is very possible. Other possibility is that the trailer isn't sitting level. Another thing that can help stop sway that starts from a semi truck like yours is to use the manual override lever of your brake control to smoothly apply the brakes of the trailer. That will quickly stop the sway.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for 5,300 Pound Trailer
When choosing a weight distribution system, the most important factor to consider is the total tongue weight of your setup. This will include both the loaded tongue weight of your Gulf Stream Track and Trail, along with any added cargo weight coming from behind the rear axle of your Dodge Ram. Ideally, you will want this number to fall somewhere around the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity range. Using the 5,300 weight you mentioned in your question, we...
