Video Transcript for Thule T2 Pro XTB 2 Bike Add-On Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to attach the Thule Two-Bike Add-On for the Thule T2 Pro XTB or XTS Bike Rack. It's available to match your black bike rack, part number TH9036XT, and it's also available for your silver bike rack, part number TX9036XTS. This two-bike add-on lets you double your bike carry capacity. It has all the same features as your Thule XTB or XTS Bike Rack, and it comes with all the hardware you need to relocate your tilting handle here at the rear. With your addition installed, it adds about 20" to your existing bike rack. With our bikes removed, you can see it's going to be an exact match. Now, we'll go ahead and show you how to attach.

It's probably easiest to do with your bike rack plugged into your hitch. Now, we'll start right here at our handle. We'll take our included tool and we're going to loosen up this bolt here and the one on the other side and then the one in the center. Now, when we take it, we just want to be sure and set that aside. We will be reusing it. With the two sides ones out, we can go ahead and do the center one.

Now, the center one is going to disengage our latch. With it loose, we should just be able to pull up and take it off. Now, we can push our bolt back flush before we bring in our new add-on. Now, I've already got it preassembled. All we have to do is just drop it into place. I'll raise it up.

I'll line up the top mast and just let it drop down where it needs to be. Now, we can tighten up our linkage here. That's what's going to connect our latch to the add-on. Now, we can take two new bolts that came with our add-on. We'll want to be sure that the flat washers are installed on them, and we're going to be working just below our linkage hole, so right down here. Then, we can just go ahead and tighten them up with the included tool.

Now, here at the end of our add-on, we can reattach our handle. You'll just want to once again make sure that that bolt is pushed through to where it's flush. We'll just slide it on. Get our holes lined up. The very first thing we can do is go ahead and attach that linkage. Then, we'll also reinstall the bolts on the side, and these are the same ones we took off before. Now, we can try it out by folding it down. I'd say it works great. Now that we know everything works properly, let's go ahead and put our last two bolts in. These are located just under our second arm. We'll take two more bolts from our add-on, make sure the flat washers are installed. We'll get those started. Now, we can just load up our bikes just like we normally would and we're all set. This is our test course. Let's start with the slalom. This shows side-to-side action, such as turning corners or evasive maneuvering. Then onto our alternating speed bumps. This shows twisting action, such as hitting curbs, pot holes, road debris, or uneven pavement. Last of all, the solid speed bumps. This shows up-and-down action, such as driving through a parking lot or parking garage or driving in and out of a driveway. That's going to complete our look at the Thule Two-Bike Add-On for the Thule T2 Pro XTB or XTS Bike Rack.

  • Comparing the Thule T2 Pro And The Thule T2 Pro XTB 2 Bike Platform Rack
  • The Thule T2 Pro XTB 2 Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches - Tilting - Black TH9034 has been discontinued and the Thule T2 Pro 2 Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches - Tilting - Silver, # TH9034XTS. are very similiar. They both have the same security, the same cradles, and the same tilting ability as well as expansion ability. They both can carry bikes with up to 5 inch wide tires. They simply have a different color with the XTS being silver and the XTB being black. The differences are the...

  • Hitch & Support Straps for Using Thule T2 Pro XTB 2 Bike Platform Rack TH9034XT on 2015 Subaru WRX
  • Thule recommends using any of their hitch bike racks, such as their T2 Pro bike rack # TH9034XT, only in those hitches that offer at least 1-1/2-inches from the receiver opening to the center of the hitch pin hole. This dimension is shown in the linked diagram. Thule's concern is that when there is less than this amount of steel between the hitch pin hole and the end of the tube the weight of the loaded rack could damage the hitch. This is a safety concern more than a concern about...

  • Comparing Thule Classic T2 vs Thule T2 Pro XT
  • The Thule T2 Classic 2 Bike Platform Rack # TH9044 and the Thule T2 Pro XTB 2 Bike Platform Rack # TH9034XT are very similar. The differences are in the maximum wheelbase being 2-1/2 inches longer totaling 50-1/2 inches and there being more space between bikes on the Pro XT model. The Pro XT will end up being about 2 lbs heavier due to that. Both of these bike racks will work very well for hybrid bikes up to 60 lbs each and mountain bikes. Both have wheel trays able to hold tires...

  • Differences Between the Thule T2 Pro XTB 2-Bike and 4-Bike Version
  • The 4-bike version of the Thule T2 Pro XTB part # TH9034XT-9036XT is the same as the 2-bike version of the Thule T2 Pro XTB part # TH9034XT with the add on part # TH9036XT. However, the locking cores on the 4-bike version or the 2-bike version with the add on may not all be the same. In order to obtain locking cores that all use the same key, you will want to use the Thule One-Key System Lock Cylinders part # TH450600. Unfortunately, we have not tested this bike rack on a 2006 Honda...

  • 2004 Honda Accord Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2-Bike Rack that Can Adapt to 4-Bike Rack
  • Thank you for all of the details regarding your situation! I will do my best to address all of your concerns so that you can go on rides with your sons in the future. You are correct that an adapter will reduce the weight rating of the trailer hitch by 50% but the good news is that it won't reduce the weight rating of your vehicle at all (which is 100 lbs for tongue weight found in the owner's manual). For your 2004 Honda Accord EX you need to use the Curt Trailer Hitch # C11327 as it...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver Compatible with Thule T2 Pro XTB on 2014 Toyota Highlander
  • For your 2014 Toyota Highlander, the Thule bike racks are not a fit based on Thule's warranty due to the pin hole location on the OEM hitches. There are a couple of options to keep the warranty in tact with a Thule accessory. One option is to replace your trailer hitch receiver with an aftermarket option like the Draw-Tite Max-E-Loader Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75896 confirmed to fit your 2014 Highlander. This is the best option. Another work around option...

  • Bike racks are not vehicle specific there are just some that vehicle owners purchase more often for certain vehicles than others. Since you have a 2 inch trailer hitch on your 2011 Mazda CX-9, you can use the Yakima HoldUp, # Y02443. The Thule T2, # TH9034XT will also fit. I have linked video reviews of both racks for you. Both racks are rated for 60 pounds per bike. The HoldUp will accept 14 to 29 inch bike wheels. The T2 will accept 20 to 29 inch bike wheels. The T2 will accept bike...

  • The Thule T2 Pro that fits the 1-1/4 inch hitch receiver, like part # TH9035XTS which is Silver or part # TH9035XT which is Black, was not built to accommodate the 2 bike add-on so you will need to make sure that you have a 2 inch hitch receiver on your vehicle. You can then purchase the T2 Pro for 2 inch hitches as part # TH9034XTS for Silver or part # TH9034XT for Black, and then the add-ons later with part # TH9036XTS for Silver or part # TH9036XT for Black. • Best Platform Bike Rack Recommendation for Electra Townie Bikes Carried by 2010 Toyota 4Runner
  • The best solution is going to be the T2 Pro part # TH9034xt. It's a platform bike rack that will only touch your bikes at the tires and when you are ready you can have the extension piece part # TH9036xt installed on it and it would be converted to a 4 bike rack. This will basically give you the nicest bike rack setup on the market that I know would be your best option for a 1,000 mile road trip. I attached a couple review videos for both products for you to check out as well.

  • Can the Thule T2 Pro Still Be a Tilting Rack for Access with the 2-Bike Extension and Bikes Loaded
  • Yes, when you add-on the 2 extra bikes with the Thule T2 Pro # TH9034XT to the 2-bike Extension # TH9036XT you will still be able to tilt the rack down to gain entry to the hatch. I spoke to my Thule representative and he told me that although you can do it that they don't typically recommend it since the bikes and the rack can weight up to 200lbs going up as well as coming down, which is quite a bit of weight to support for just one person.
