Weight Distribution Recommendation for 2026 Jayco Feather 19MRK

Updated 04/08/2026 | Published 03/29/2026

Question:

Hello, I am picking up my first travel trailer in two weeks and I am looking at putting a weight distribution hitch on my 2023 Ford Ranger. The trailer is a 2026 Jayco. Feather 19MRK with a 550 lbs tongue weight and gross weight of 6400 lbs. I am looking at the Anderson weight distribution hitch. Would that work? And what option should I pick? Thank you very much for you assistance Ray

Hey Ray, while there certainly is a lot of appeal to the Andersen WD systems like the part # AN88VR what we have found is that if the tongue weight is more than a few hundred lbs they just don't work as well as the traditional systems that use spring bars instead. So if you wanted something simpler that would work a lot better I would go with a Fastway part # FA92-00-0800 instead.

Sorry I hit the send button to quick. I wanted to ask about backing up. Will I have to disconnect the system to back up?

@RayD You can still back up but you need to be basically backing up straight mostly. This is true for all WD systems.

Hello Jameson, Sorry for all the questions. Picked up the trailer today and the truck handled ok but did have a little sway on the highways. I was back researching and was about to purchase the FA92-00-0800 but also came across the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW Part Number: EQ37100ET 90-00-1000. Would that work better? Thanks for your help Ray

@RayD The Equalizer kits have better sway control but for your tongue weight the # EQ37060ET would be the better rated system since you said your tongue weight would be 550 lb. Is trailer sitting totally level?

@JamesonC I did the measurements and the back tires are down 3/4 of an inch and front is up about 3/4 of an inch. The trailer has a gross weight of 6400lbs that is why I went with bigger one Thanks Ray

@RayD Ahh yeah that makes a lot more sense to go with that one instead.
