Weight Distribution Diagram

Create a more stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.

Forged Steel Spring Bars

The round spring bars are made from forged steel, giving them a distinct advantage over typical cast steel bars. Forging is a process where thermal and mechanical energy are applied to the steel, resulting in a finished product that is more resilient to impacts and is stronger in terms of shear strength. Simply put, these spring bars do a superior job of helping to hold your trailer in line because of their added strength and durability.

Built-In Grease Zerks

Built-in grease zerk on the Curt weight distribution system head assembly

The system's head features 2 built-in grease zerks so that you can easily lubricate the spring bars without having to remove them from the head assembly. The grease zerks are located on each of the shafts that encase the spring bars. Simply use a grease gun (sold separately) to inject grease into each of the zerks.

Only gave it 4 because I just got it and won't be setting it up real soon, but took the parts out of the box and it's all there and seems easy enough to set up. 576636

The Curt hitch is a quality product for the money. One suggestion to make the installation go easier. Use a old fashioned scissors jack to raise the tension bars to hook the chains on. 654269

Very good product , does the job. Two things I don't like. The "snap ins" for the flex bars. Are you supposed to pull them out with your fingers? To release the bars? It hurts my fingers, to the point I can't do it. So I use an old large flat screwdriver, that's works. Second, the hair pins, they hurt putting them in, and taking them out. I had another hitch that did not have the engineering mistakes. Other than that it works fine. Pay attention to the instructions and videos , they help a lot. etrailers does a great job, They let U speak to a tech, if U want, he was a great help. I definitely would do business with them again. 389509

Product was easy to install and worked as advertised. My application was a bit odd and I went for a different solution after using it for a while, in the end to avoid the torque bars, I swapped the 2" hitch to a 2.5" hitch. Raising the trailer on the electric tongue jack made installing the torque bars a lot easier and I avoid the potential finger pinch at the chain/hook connection. The chain had a tendency to slip off the hook when applying the tension. My rig is heavy enough (1 ton) that the load distribution made little difference, for a lighter tractor I can see how it would improve the handling. 829698

This equalizer assembly is exactly like another brand we put on another trailer, just not as heavy. This equalizer went on our travel trailer, gets used maybe twice a year right now. We pull this trailer or a 23' flat hauling a Jeep plus accessories (13500 lb. GVW) with a Ram 1500. Delivery was quick, all the parts were ok and there. Nice looking paint/powder coat. 677310

Ask the Experts about this Curt Weight Distribution Hitch

  • Are Spring Bars of Curt MV Weight Distribution Systems Interchangeable
Since the Curt MV weight distribution systems all use the same head part # C17075 the bar sizes are all the same between the kits you mentioned of # C17051, # C17052, and # C17057 so what that means is you could swap spring bars down the road if you wanted to change the tongue weight rating of your system.

As long as you are backing up mainly in a straight line you can back up with a weight distribution system like the Curt part # C17051 that you referenced. • Is Curt MV Weight Distribution System Correct for 2019 Crossroads ZR18RK
The Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17051 may be a great choice for your 2019 Crossroads ZR18RK but it will depend on a couple factors. In order to choose the best weight distribution system you will first need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. According to my research your 2019 Crossroads ZR18RK has a GVWR of approximately 4,500...

  • Should Weight Distribution Raise Rear Suspension When Braking
