Weight Distributing Hitch

Create a stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.

Put this on a 1997 GMC C1500 with original springs, pulling a heavy 18 ft tandem flatbed. It takes all the squat out of the rig when hauling a heavy or slightly nose heavy load. Fairly easy to put on first time and anytime, just had to extend my safety chains.

by:

This stabilizer hitch solved my problems towing a 31ft travel trailer. It is a well built product and etrailer provided excellent service when I purchased it.

by:

Product worked perfectly, I paid extra for fast shipping and the arrival was just in time before my family camping trip.thanks Again!

I've been using WD hitches for almost 20 years. The Curt WD hitch is solid, sturdy, and simple to set up. I prefer the trunnion style and use a sway brake, also. This setup has never failed, regardless of the abuse it's subjected to.

by:

Fast shipping, great hitch, easy to install, remember to be patient when adjusting the first time. I shoulda measured for trunnion bar length before ordering. I needed the 28" not the standard 30". I've ordered from etrailer twice, and am very happy with their service. Will definitely order more in the future.

I have had my equalizing hitch for about a year now, and I have been very satisfied with this product.

My hitch arrived as scheduled and in good condition. it was fairly easy to install (though I admittedly had help from my father-in-law!), and it is simple to hook up to my camper and truck.

Prior to owning this hitch, my camper/truck would sag where they connected, and would cause extra stress on my brakes, causing the discs to overheat. My rig now sits much more evenly, and I have noticed a big difference in the amount of heat that is generated by my brakes.

I am very happy with this purchase!

This is a great product! My truck almost rides smoother with my trailer hooked up then without the trailer. Installation was a piece of cake. 20 minutes after installing I saw first hand what can happen when you don't have a weight distribution hitch. As I was driving down the road pulling my travel trailer I noticed up ahead of me that there was a truck was pulling a heavy trailer coming towards me down a hill. The trailer began to sway and the truck could not handle it. The truck crossed into my lane and then back across the road going into a ditch and rolling over! Thankfully the people in the truck were okay, but the guy said he had is trailer loaded down too much and he didn't have a weight distribution hitch! As I was standing there calling 911 I looked over at my truck, and the whole setup from my trucks front bumper to the rear bumper of my 31 foot travel trailer was perfectly level. Safety first everyone! This is a great product!!

by:

The product was received in good order and went together with the instructions. the product was put on a 2009 Yukon Denali and a 2017 24' Sportsman Travel Trailer. There are some questions about the tightening instructions of some bolts which I will call about.

by:

Relatively basic installation with correct LARGE torq wrenches for the ball . It doesn’t take long in a nice flat parking lot. I hooked this up to tow a travel trailer on a cross country move 3500miles or so with a good share of dirt roads, Made the ride smoother and safer

by:

It’s beautiful!!! Much nicer than expected and even better in person. Not only is it nice but super functional with safety in mind. My favorite part is that the ramp is so close to the ground so there isnt a huge step up into the trailer like most.

by:

Great price, seems more robust than other brands. Works great, no problems. I use it to tow new travel trailers from Indiana to all over the US. Helps with "porpoising" on some trailers.

by:

Received the weight distribution hitch promptly when they said. Hooked up to the motor-home well & carried our truck & RZR smoothly! We are very happy with the overall service we received. Very professional, attentive to details, good follow-up, and excellent product! Would order something from E-trailer again, because the service was so good! Thank you!

by:

I don't have anything to compare it to - bought this before we even towed for the first time, but it seems to be doing what it's supposed to do! No problems with installation or usage to report. Very pleased.

by:

Works great, just need to get it setup right and your good to go. Worked great to equalize the weight so I could pull this trail safely down the road

by:

Excellent SystemI have been very happy with this weight distribution system. It has performed perfectly and is built heavy duty for hauling. It is much stronger and built better than most of the systems that I looked at. A+

by:

Gotta love "Curt" products! ......great engineering, priced fair (etrailer.com).......

by:

Ok system, had to buy a longer shank for my set-up. Work fine but that's about it. After about 4k miles trying different adjustments decided to replace with a different system.
FYI, I am near the top of the TW with this.

  • How to Get More Drop With Curt Trunnion Style Weight Distribution C24UR
You can get more drop but will need a new shank for the Curt Trunnion Style Weight Distribution System # C24UR. The same exact system does not come with a different shank, which is why you'll need to get the shank separately. For 8 inches of drop, the 2 inch shank you'll need is the Equalizer Weight-Distribution Shank - 2" Hitch - 12" Drop x 15" Rise - 600 to 1,400 lbs TW # EQ44FR. This will give you the drop you need, and the only other thing required will be the hitch ball, the 2-5/16"...

  • Sway Control Options For Curt Trunnion Style Weight Distribution System # C24UR
The Curt Friction Sway Control # 17200 is compatible with the Curt Trunnion Style Weight Distribution System # C24UR. This will help to reduce trailer sway while driving on the highways. Another option to consider is the Tuson Asymmetric Sway Control # 335TSC-1000. This is an electric sway system and unlike the friction sway control you will not have to remove anything when maneuvering the trailer or driving on tight and twisty back roads. If the friction bar is not removed it could bend...

  • Can You Back Up With The Curt Trunnion Bar Weight Distribution Hitch C24UR?
If the Curt Trunion Style Weight Distribution Hitch # C24UR is used without friction sway bars it does allow backing up and sharp turns, however it is recommended to use at least one friction sway bar # 17200 which makes it where you can NOT back up with the hitch hooked up. Instead of this hitch I recommend the Fastway e2 # FA92-00-1000 which has built in two point sway control that does allow backing up and sharp turns. This hitch is a favortie of our staff and installers, and works...

  • Weight Distribution Hitch for 21ft travel trailer
Yes, I highly recommend a weight distribution hitch for your new trailer. With the information you have provided I recommend purchasing the Curt Trunnion Style Weight Distribution System item # C24UR. Your trailer fully loaded will give you a tongue weight between 700lbs and 800lbs. This weight distribution system will give you a max tongue weight of 1k lbs and a maximum gross towing weight of 10K lbs. This hitch system will evenly distribute the weight over the axles of your F-150 and...

  • Can Vehicle be Reversed with Curt Weight Trunnion Distribution

  • Can I Use the TorkLift Cannon with a Weight Distribution Hitch
The weight distribution hitch you'll want to use will depend on the GVWR and tongue weight of your cargo trailer; you ideally have a WDH that the tongue weight of your trailer falls right in the middle of the range. Assuming that you tow the maximum that the Torklift Cannon # TLE1642 will allow (660-lbs TW/6600-lbs GVWR), something like the Curt Trunnion Style Weight Distribution System w/ Shank - 1K TW, 10K GTW # C24UR would be a good choice. • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch For Trailer With 8.5 Tall Trailer Frame
You will need a weight distribution hitch like the Curt Trunnion Style Weight Distribution System w/ Shank - 1K TW, 10K GTW # C24UR which uses clamps to will fit any height frame rail as long as it is not more than 2-3/4" wide. This hitch works with total tongue weights between 800-1000lbs, so as long as that matches your setup this would be a perfect option. For a shank that works with the 2-1/2" receiver in your new 2021 Ford F-250 I recommend the Curt Weight Distribution Shank for...

Since you have a pretty long camper, it'll be pretty susceptible to trailer sway caused by cross winds and oncoming or passing traffic.
