Video Transcript for Review of CURT Replacement 800 lbs MV Spring Bar - C17072

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this replacement spring bar for your Curt MV Weight Distribution System. This is going to replace one round spring bar for your MV weight distribution system. This is going to come in different weight capacities, so you wanna make sure you're getting the right one, you can see list of our part numbers there on the screen for the different weight capacities for the different spring bars. They are all very similar, but they just have slightly different thicknesses that give them that weight capacity, but they are interchangeable, so if you're just needing to replace your spring bar, you can get the same weight capacity, or if you have got a different trailer or your setup has changed and you just need to change the weight capacity, you can switch out the bars to a higher weight capacity or a lower weight capacity, they're all going to work with your MV weight distribution system. These are Curt bars, so you're not gonna have to worry about compatibility issues or anything like that, so they are gonna get put into your head unit the exact same way, and then you've got the pre-attached chain fastener and chain here, so that you can get those mounted onto your trailer exactly like your original system, so very easy to get this switched out, whether you're needing to replace that exact same weight capacity or if you're switching out your weight capacity.

These are gonna be steel construction, so they are very durable, they got the black powder coat on them that resist rust, so they're gonna hold up well for you, and it's a really nice option rather than having to get a whole new weight distribution system, if you get a new trailer, you can just switch out these spring bars, and that'll allow you to. And make sure that your system is appropriate for your setup. So that's gonna complete our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com, thanks for watching..

E trailer was able to provide exactly what I needed to update my hitch when I bought a new trailer and saved me hundreds from having to buy an entirely new weight transfer hitch. Representative Jaime was friendly and knowledgeable. Was truly exceptional service!

Replacing stiffer 1000 lb bars. These 800 lb bars show heavy, rough forging marks unlike original bars. Also thickness only begins to taper halfway down length and then thins rapidly. As a result these bars bow heavily over the last half of their length near the chain under only moderate load. I am concerned about trying to fully load them to deal with verified 640 lb tongue weight. At 6 links under tension still 160 lbs light on steer axle vs no hitch. The original 1000 lb bar from Curt have a gradual taper over pretty much the entire bar length (and have no forging marks).

Update: went to 5 links under tension but had to adjust tilt of hitch ball also. 29 ft travel trailer now tows much better. Also rebalanced load from rear compartments to front and empty hot water rear tank before towing. The old 1000 lb bars were too stiff and leveraging the rear of my Escalade over every bump. I do use one friction sway control which I found a must have for a 29 foot travel trailer which has springs mounted on top of axles. My prior rig was 23 ft and under mounted springs and towed like a dream. Don’t underestimate the wind force at 65mph if your trailer gets out at an angle to the direction of travel.

New 800 pound bars replaced my 1,400 pound bars for a lighter trailer. Ride is much better. Glad I didn’t have to buy a complete new WD system. E Trailer tech support helped me find the right bars and order was shipped very fast.

After a year I realize what a difference having the correct size bars make. Ride is better and I found my trailer tire wear is reduced.

This bar worked with my existing Curt weight distribution hitch. I replaced the 1000# bars with the 800s when I traded campers. Works great.

  • Can 800 lb Spring Bars be Used With 1,000 lb Curt MV Weight Distribution
So long as the total tongue weight of your fully loaded 2022 Forest River Surveyor is between 600 lbs and 800 lbs, you can use the lower rated spring bars with the hitch head of your Curt MV Weight Distribution System - Round Bar - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW # C17052. The MV systems all use the same hitch head, which is why different rated spring bars are compatible. Having said that, without knowing your loaded tongue weight, it's impossible for me to know specifically if new bars are...

  • Curt WD Hitch Head Compatibility with Curt Spring Bars With Lesser Capacity for Different Trailer
The Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17057 uses the Replacement Head for Curt MV Weight Distribution Systems # C17075. That head is compatible with the Replacement Spring Bar for Curt MV Weight Distribution System - 800 lbs TW # C17072 you referenced, so you can simply change out the spring bars for your lighter trailer.

  • Can the Curt MV 600 LB Weight Distribution System Be Upgraded
The springs bars are the only difference between the Curt MV Weight Distribution Systems part # C17050 and part # C17051 and these are available separately so you can purchase two of the Replacement Spring Bar part # C17072 and then be set when you are towing with your motorcycle in the truck bed. The addition of airbags should not be needed. In regards to installation, the head attachment bolts used to be 1/2" but they are now 3/4" and that is what this is referring to so please disregard...

  • Are Curt Weight Distribution Spring Bars Compatible with an EAZ-Lift V-5 Weight Distribution Head
Although the bars may look like they would fit, the way that they install in the head unit of the system varies between all of the manufacturers and none of them are exactly the same. For that reason the Curt # C17072 bars you're referencing are unlikely to work with your Eaz-Lift V-5 system. Your best bet is going to be replacing the old weight distribution hitch with a new one. Considering that your 6500-lbs travel trailer likely has a tongue weight in the 650-lbs to 925-lbs range,...

  • Can Bars Be Upgraded on Curt MV Weight Distribution to Work With Larger Trailer
Great question! Your current Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17050 (rated for up to 600 lbs TW) and the upgraded Curt MV # C17051 (rated for up to 800 lbs TW) use all of the same parts so you can definitely upgrade the weight rating by simply swapping out the bars to the larger part # C17072 - just be sure to pick 2 of these up. With that being said, these bars are rated for a max of 800 lbs TW so if that's what you're anticipating your total tongue weight to be then I recommend...

  • How To Determine If The Curt MV Weight Distribution Is Correct For a 5,400LB Trailer
The important thing to remember with the Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17052 is while it is rated for a trailer up to 10,000lbs you need to stay within the tongue weight rating which is 800-1,000lbs for this hitch. If the tongue weight on your trailer falls in this window then there is no disadvantage to using this weight distribution on your trailer. For weight distribution if the bars are rated for more tongue weight than what you have you do risk transferring more weight onto...

  • Which Spring Bars Fit Curt MV Weight Distribution Head C17075
It's possible that EAZ-Lift spring bars will fit the Curt Replacement MV Weight Distribution Head # C17075, but that's not something we can confirm as it hasn't been tested. With that said it is a bit unlikely, as most of the time brands make their spring bars just slightly different so that they aren't interchangable. For something that'll work 100% you'll want to go with one of the following MV spring bars based on the total tongue weight of your loaded trailer: 600lbs # C17071 800lbs...

  • Gen-Y Weight Distribution System for Different Tongue Weights and Compatibility with Torsion Hitch?
For your Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers # 325-GH-1024 the Weight Distribution System for Gen-Y Ball Mounts with 2" Receivers has been discontinued and will fit if you have it but is rated for 1,000 to 1,400 lbs total tongue weight. That total tongue weight is the loaded tongue weight of your trailer along with any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. The issue with this particular pairing is the limitation of your 10K receiver as you stated. The solution is...
