Create a stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.
Selecting a Weight Distribution System
The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.
To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.
Unique Features of Blue Ox SwayPro
Unlike other weight distribution systems, the SwayPro has automatically locking brackets throughout. Both spring bars insert, slotted side up, into the head assembly and then lock securely in place. Removal is just as easy - simply lift the locking pins on the trunnions and slide the bars out. Blue Ox spring bars are interchangeable with each other. If you buy a new trailer or tow vehicle and you need to increase or decrease your capacity, you can simply buy new spring bars instead of purchasing a whole new system.
Other systems have lift brackets that require you to apply a good amount of leverage to get them to snap up, which can be difficult and frustrating. With the SwayPro, all you have to do is insert the lift chain into the bracket slot and rotate the bracket with the included wrench until the lock pin engages.
Another feature of the SwayPro is the easy-to-use head. The required pitch is already built into the head, so the only adjustment that may be needed is the placement of the head on the shank. Move the head up or down along the weight distribution shank to achieve the proper height. No additional, fine-tune adjustment is needed, which means no hard-to-access washers or difficult-to-use thumbscrew.
Built-In Tension Stops Sway
The SwayPro offers four points of built-in sway control. Within the head assembly, the trunnions are designed to hold the spring bars securely in position, placing just enough tension on them to cause them to constantly force your trailer in line. At the other end of this weight distribution system, the rotating brackets ensure that the lift chains are pulled as taut as possible. In addition, the basic design of the brackets keeps much of the length of the lift chains wrapped up inside of the brackets. Typically, only a couple of links hang down from each bracket. So each chain is held more stable than in traditional weight distribution systems, where more than twice as many links are exposed. This tight, stable design limits the movement of the spring bars so that they can exert more force on your trailer to effectively keep it from shifting side to side. Furthermore, unlike many friction-style sway controls, the SwayPro allows you to back up your trailer without having to remove or disengage the system.

The performance of what it is supposed to do, Weight Distribution and Sway Control, is great. The parameters which is will be able to be installed on your particular setup is cumbersome and usually involves buying alternate parts. V Nose Trailers also provide challenges (alternate parts). Recommend having a shop install it on both the trailer and vehicle so they work out the exact equipment needed. The overall longevity of this product -- when left on the trailer -- is leaving me wanting. This equipment does not like to be left in the weather. You will want to uninstall it, clean it, lubricate it and store it in a controlled environment. Oxidation is strong with this equipment.1242214

You will definitely want to grease the 2 grease zerks inside the head assembly often. As well as lubricate any moving part that is in the elements. For more rust prevention tips, see the attached help article:
The unit is quite heavy and you need to make sure you have the space to mount the chain take-up brackets (the proper distance down the trailer arm), other than that the unit is fairly easy to use and stopped my 14 foot Sportsman Travel Trailer from swaying when traveling 70 mph. Before I added the anti-sway unit it was a scary proposition to travel over 60 mph. Felt a little like you were losing control of the trailer. Now, I feel more confident that all is well. The unit is well built and should last years. I would buy this product again. Also, etrailer (the company) was there for me when I had questions...nice people.541440

Review from a similar SwayPro in Weight Distribution Hitch
This is a good system, though it can require some tinkering when hitching up. Sometimes it's super easy (connect the bars to the receiver, loop the links to the clamps, and rotate until it clicks into place, done!) while occasionally as the ground varies one bar may resist getting loaded and you have to find a level spot to adjust it. We have found the need to change frequently which link its cranked to. In fact, a couple times I've gone to our standard setting but later had to pull over and crank a couple extra links tighter to keep the sway down. That said, it fit all the criteria for the weight range, frame mount points, etc. and has worked over multiple trips and several hundred miles so far.
I would say the powder coating has been pretty durable, there is a bit of rust developing on the clamps where there's been contact with the chains for one year. But the bars, links, and receiver are looking fine overall.
Overall, it wasn't the first model we had our eye on but it fit the situation and we are fairly happy with how it all turned out.1292206

Bought a 30’ enclosed race car trailer with 1.5’ extra height and pulled it back from Dallas, Tx. with my 3500 DuraMax with no weight distribution hitch! It was not a pleasant drive. I weighted the tongue when I got home and came in at 1650# empty. Got this hitch, BX2000, loaded trailer with car, tools, fuel, generator, and did not re-weight tongue but estimate to be at least 2k. Pulls completely different! Sway is almost nothing. My old trailer was a 50’ goose neck which pulled better but was much heavier and harder for the truck to pull. This hitch will make the difference in a heavy tongue weight bumper pull trailer1244547

Bought a 30’long 7.5’ inside height, bumper pull race car trailer in Dallas. Driving 8hours back home with my dually and no weight distribution hitch, trailer empty, sway was terrible. Weighted tounge and was 1700# empty! Ordered the Blue Ox Hitch with 2k bars and problem solved

Review from a similar SwayPro in Weight Distribution Hitch
The hitch works as designed and for that I would give 5 stars, however the manufacturer claims their hitch is powder coated? Must be some really bad powder coating since the finish flakes off easily much like regular enamel paint. Everything I have ever had powder coated was a hell of a lot more durable than what's applied to this hitch assembly. If you don't mind the powder coating (paint) flaking off and rusting then it will be a non-issue for you.1394927

I recommend touching up the WD system with a rust resistant paint. Over time the system will experience nicks and scratches from road debris and having the paint on hand will be beneficial.

I have used my Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - Clamp On - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW Item #BXW1000 now for the past year towing our Airstream 27FB with a Ford F150 over 5000 miles and six weeks of road trips.
For comparison, I had used Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control hitches on three prior travel trailers over eight years - including a prior 27FB.
For comparable levels of weight distribution, I have found: 1. The sway control with the Blue Ox is more of a dampening of sway - making it tolerable, while the Reese seemed to eliminate the sway from starting in the first place. A noticeable difference with crosswinds and passing semis at highway speeds. 2. Tightening and loosening the torsion bars with the supplied wrench and rotating cam of the Blue Ox is more stressful and unpredictable than using the lever pipe and lift bracket for the cam of the Reese. I bought a longer torsion bar and socket to replace the supplied wrench which helps (see photo). 3. While the Reese torsion bars and cams require routine topical application of grease, the Blue Ox torsion bar swivel attachments (see photo) require a grease gun to keep lubricated which is a nuisance. 4. Routine wear on the paint of the Blue Ox cam (see photo) adds rust as a maintenance problem that I didn't have with the Reese systems.1163344

Review from a similar SwayPro in Weight Distribution Hitch
The blue ox pro weight distribution looks extremely well built. However, When I ordered the kit, I believe it said it did not come with a ball. So I ordered a ball. I now have an extra ball that I don't need. UPS delivered the box and the box was crushed, two holes punctured into the box. Fortunately for me, all the pieces were still in the box. Past that, I'm excited to pull my trailer and see how it does.1111914

Game Changer. I love my Blue Ox WDH. It has worked flawlessly since I purchased and installed it on my trailer. I have towed my 30 foot travel trailer in all kinds of weather including windy conditions and the hitch works great. I used to tow a 22 foot travel trailer with a Harbor Freight WDH, and that trailer would sway without an additional and noisy anti sway bar. The Blue Ox doesnt need one, and even though my new trailer is 8 feet longer, it does not sway much at all. Not only does it keep my 8500 lb trailer straight, it is easy to hook up. I dont dread hooking up like I used to.

Review from a similar SwayPro in Weight Distribution Hitch
After much research, I chose this Blue Ox. Liked this style over the others for it's simple use and less clips to lose. My issue was the rear of my KIA was sagging allowing the camper nose to drop. Which in turn made the camper sway. Very simple installation. The object is tweaking it to get both the tow vehicle and camper level and to line the chain up with the bracket mounted on the frame of the trailer/camper. We've taken it out on 1 short trip so far and it has definitely been an improvement. It is quite heavy, but just about all brands are. Read others that said the ball was not included..... mine was! Very pleased with my decision.1135795

When you adjust the sway bars so they have a bend in them and your trailer and pickup truck are level then you are dialed in. The system works great. I towed our travel trailer over nine thousand miles. On our trip we traveled through wind coming from every direction, the trailer was rock solid behind my pickup. I very much recommend the blue ox sway pro.1467969

Review from a similar SwayPro in Weight Distribution Hitch
I had a question about a "used" version of the BXW1000, so I jumped on the chat with customer service and they were able to answer my questions about what "used" was considered (in this case, damaged packaging/cosmetic defects, nothing structural and the hitch was not used and returned used for resale).
I also asked if all the parts would be in the box, and of course the answer was yes.
I recieved the hitch in very short order (and I received order/shipping updates). The outer box had a good amount of clear packaging tape, but was intact. Upon inspection, the hitch looked (as it was) brand new, and the only blemish I noticed was some overspray from the paint in two of the threaded bolt holes, which was easily removed with a small screwdriver.
Thanks to etrailer for a very smooth ordering/shipping process and to your excellent customer service representatives!

Review from a similar SwayPro in Weight Distribution Hitch
I specifically asked what bars to buy and answered questions about dry weight, tongue weight and max trailer weight. I was steered to 1000 lb bars even though that was not even 10% of max trailer weight when 12-15% of max weight is the typical range for tongue weight. I ended up replacing with the next step which was 1500 lb bars. You gave me the wrong answer and it cot me another set of bars and left me no way of recovering what I spent for wrong bars. Bad advice=bad customer service. The only reaso I gave 2 stars is you delivered on time to my rv dealer as instructed.1270021

Depending on the total tongue weight of the trailer you will want to a weight distribution system where your trailers loaded and unloaded weight will fall into the range of the bars. Review from a similar SwayPro in Weight Distribution Hitch
Another positive shopping experience with etrailer.com. I received the Blue Ox BXW0756 weight distributing hitch and I'm extremely pleased with it. It offers robust construction. It's easy to setup. It's also a major upgrade over the Camco Recurve R3 I had been using. Even with comparable spring bar weight ratings this hitch performs better. Far easier to get the weight balanced. The trailer tongue brackets are easily attached and adjusted, and don't damage the trailer tongue. I abandoned the Recurve after repeatedly experiencing problems with the trailer brackets failing to remain properly placed after a trip. They would move and gouge the tongue, no matter how tight the bolts were. I took a chance ordering the hitch while on vacation and having it shipped to my vacation spot, nervous it wouldn't arrive before my trip home. etrailer and UPS came through and I received it without issue. Thanks for making the trip home a happy one with an awesome hitch etrailer.1449180

I have been using the Blue Ox SwayPro WD Hitch for 1,500 tongue weight on our 30' Arctic Fox travel trailer for one year now. I’m not very happy with my purchase. The weight distribution hitch I purchased does not fit on my trailer. There is a welded support bracket right where the hitch bracket is supposed to go 29 inches back on my trailer. Can the bracket go further back or does it need to go right above the chain? I’ve attached a photo of my issue.579199
Yes this blue ox weight distribution system part # BXW1006 does require the brackets to be positioned 29 inches from the hitch ball. Since you have a support bar where the bracket does need to be positioned this weight distribution system will not work for your trailer. I recommend the equalizer system part # EQ37100ET Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW $825.00. The sway control brackets on the equalizer system can be positioned 27 inches to 32 inches back from the coupler. It handles tongue weight from 700 to 900 pounds and will still allow for backing up. It also includes the 2 5/16 inch ball and shank.

I had the unfortunate experience with having your new airstream 20' taken out by a hydroplaning car last month. The airstream rolled right and on to its side, and the hitch released keeping our Suburban from rolling. The stabilizer bars and chains maintained the trailer connection and eased the stop with the rear tires of ground. The hitch bent the receiver on the truck, and the only damage appeared to be one " sprung" spring bar. A good result from a bad experience!237404
As close as you are to the 2,000 lb rating that Toyota states you would need a WD system for I would recommend you go ahead and get one.
The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached an FAQ on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well.

Adding sway control will not necessarily help with a bumpy ride, but weight distribution is recommended when the weight of the trailer is greater than 50 percent of the tow vehicle's gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). The bumpy ride is likely due to the fact that the tongue weight of the trailer is causing your truck to sag, so there is less movement for the suspension.
For your situation, I recommend looking at the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution and Sway Control, # BXW0350. This... view full answer...
