Question:
Hi, I will be towing a small vehicle on an all aluminum open trailer. Can I use this product on an aluminum trailer tongue? Specifically clamping the distribution mounts onto the trailer tongue. Does the trailer have to be steel? Best,

I reached out to my contact at Blue Ox who said that they don't have any stipulations about using the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # BXW0350 with an aluminum frame trailer. Just note that you also need a hitch ball with this setup like the 2" # A-90 or the 2-5/16" # 19286. You also want to make sure that the loaded tongue weight of your trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle doesn't exceed the 350 lb tongue weight rating for this system. Since you mentioned hauling a car you likely need to upgrade to the next size up, part # BXW0550, which has a tongue weight range of 350 lbs - 550 lbs.
Even though Blue Ox doesn't have a problem with you using this system on an aluminum frame trailer, the trailer manufacturer will be the one to have the final say on whether that is okay or not because aluminum frames have a reputation of not holding up well with a weight distribution system. If your manufacturer says not to use weight distribution then the next best thing is to add suspension enhancement to your tow vehicle. Let me know the year/make/model of your tow vehicle in this case and I can make a recommendation for you.
